Sirach 11

1 The poor man's wisdom lifts his head high and sets him among princes.	1 La sapienza dello umiliato esalterà il capo suo, e farallo sedere nel mezzo de' grandi.
2 Praise not a man for his looks; despise not a man for his appearance.	2 Non lodare l' uomo secondo la forma sua, e non dispregiar l' uomo secondo l'aspetto suo.
3 Least is the bee among winged things, but she reaps the choicest of all harvests.	3 L'ape è picciola nelli volanti, e il frutto suo hae il principato delle dolcezze.
4 Mock not the worn cloak and jibe at no man's bitter day: For strange are the works of the LORD, hidden from men his deeds.	4 Mai non ti gloriare nelle vestimenta, e non te ne esaltare nel dì dello onore tuo; però che maravigliose sono l'opere dello Altissimo, e gloriose e occulte sono tutte le sue opere.
5 The oppressed often rise to a throne, and some that none would consider wear a crown.	5 Molti tiranni sederono in sedia regale, e tale di cui non si pensò portò corona.
6 The exalted often fall into utter disgrace; the honored are given into enemy hands.	6 Molti potenti furono fortemente oppremuti; e li famosi furono dati in mano ad altrui.
7 Before investigating, find no fault; examine first, then criticize.	7 Prima che tu domandi, non vituperare alcuno; e quando averai addomandato, riprendi giustamente.
8 Before hearing, answer not, and interrupt no one in the middle of his speech.	8 Non rispondere parola, prima che tu oda; in mezzo delli antichi non parlare.
9 Dispute not about what is not your concern; in the strife of the arrogant take no part.	9 Non contendere di quella cosa che non ti grava; e non istare nel piato delli peccanti.
10 My son, why increase your cares, since he who is avid for wealth will not be blameless? Even if you run after it, you will never overtake it; however you seek it, you will not find it.	10 Figliuol mio, le opere [tue] non sieno in molti atti; per che tu sia ricco, non sarai sanza peccato. Se tu seguiterai molti, non piglierai; e se tu fuggirai, non scamperai.
11 One may toil and struggle and drive, and fall short all the more.	11 Egli è uomo che lavora e studiasi, ed è rammaricoso e crudele, e tanto maggiormente non abbonderae.
12 Another goes his way a weakling and a failure, with little strength and great misery-- Yet the eyes of the LORD look favorably upon him; he raises him free of the vile dust,	12 E sì è un altro uomo languido, e che ha bisogno d' essere ricomperato, molto mancante in forza, e abbondante in povertade.
13 Lifts up his head and exalts him to the amazement of the many.	13 E l'occhio di Dio guatoe colui in bene, e dirizzoe lui della umilitade sua, e levoe il capo suo (della tribulazione); in colui molti si sono maravigliati, e onorarono Iddio.
14 Good and evil, life and death, poverty and riches, are from the LORD.	14 Li beni, li mali, la vita, la morte, la povertade la onestade sono da Dio.
15 Wisdom and understanding and knowledge of affairs, love and virtuous paths are from the LORD.	15 Sapienza e disciplina e scienza della legge sono appo Iddio; la dilezione e le vie de' buoni sono appo lui.
16 Error and darkness were formed with sinners from their birth, and evil grows old with evildoers.	16 L'errore e le tenebre sono concreate a'peccatori; coloro che si esaltano nelli mali, invecchiano in quelli.
17 The LORD'S gift remains with the just; his favor brings continued success.	17 Il dono di Dio sta fermo alli giusti, e le utilitadi di colui averanno prosperitade in eterno.
18 A man may become rich through a miser's life, and this is his allotted reward:	18 Egli è chi arricchisce, temperatamente operando; e questa è la parte del merito suo,
19 When he says: "I have found rest, now I will feast on my possessions," He does not know how long it will be till he dies and leaves them to others.	19 ch' elli dice: apparecchia'mi, e io mangeroe ora de' beni miei solo.
20 My son, hold fast to your duty, busy yourself with it, grow old while doing your task.	20 E non sa che il tempo passa, e la morte s' approssima, e ch' egli lascerae tutte le cose agli altri, e morrae.
21 Admire not how sinners live, but trust in the LORD and wait for his light; For it is easy with the LORD suddenly, in an instant, to make a poor man rich.	21 Sta nel testamento tuo, e in quello favella (con noi), e nell' opera de' tuoi comandamenti invecchia.
22 God's blessing is the lot of the just man, and in due time his hopes bear fruit.	22 Non dimorare nell' opera de' peccatori; ma confidati in Dio, e sta nel luogo tuo.
23 Say not: "What do I need? What further pleasure can be mine?"	23 Lieve è nel conspetto di Dio sùbito arricchire il povero.
24 Say not: "I am independent. What harm can come to me now?"	24 La benedizione di Dio (sùbito) s' affretta a venire nel merito del giusto, e il provvedimento d'essa fruttifica in veloce onore.
25 The day of prosperity makes one forget adversity; the day of adversity makes one forget prosperity.	25 Non dire: di che ho io bisogno? e che arò io dopo questa vita?
26 For it is easy with the LORD on the day of death to repay man according to his deeds.	26 Non dire: io son sufficiente a me stesso; e (avendo tanti beni) che mal mi puote avvenire?
27 A moment's affliction brings forgetfulness of past delights; when a man dies, his life is revealed.	27 Nel dì de' beni non ti dimenticare de' mali, e nel dì de' mali non ti dimenticar de' beni.
28 Call no man happy before his death, for by how he ends, a man is known.	28 Però che lieve cosa è dinanzi da Dio, nel die della morte, meritare ciascuno secondo le sue vie.
29 Bring not every man into your house, for many are the snares of the crafty one;	29 La afflizione sùbita fa dimenticare (l'onore e) li desideri carnali; e nella fine dell' uomo fia il palesamento delle sue opere.
30 Though he seem like a bird confined in a cage, yet like a spy he will pick out the weak spots.	30 Anzi la morte non lodare alcuno uomo; però che l'uomo si conosce ne' suoi figliuoli.
31 The talebearer turns good into evil; with a spark he sets many coals afire.	31 Non menare ogni uomo in casa tua; per che molte sono le insidie del fraudolente.
32 The evil man lies in wait for blood, and plots against your choicest possessions.	32 Sì come li luoghi vicini del cuore delle pregne spirano e gettano fuori, e sì come la pernice s' induce nella gabbia, e sì come la cervia s' induce nel lacciuolo; così il cuore de' superbi, e così il ragguardatore vedendo il cadimento del prossimo suo.
33 Avoid a wicked man, for he breeds only evil, lest you incur a lasting stain.	33 Però che convertendo le cose buone in cattive, insidia e pone macula nelli eletti.
34 Lodge a stranger with you, and he will subvert your course, and make a stranger of you to your own household.	34 Da una favilla s' accresce il fuoco, e da uno malizioso s'accresce il sangue; l'uomo peccatore agguata il sangue.
	35 Guàrdati dal pestilenzioso, però ch' elli fabbrica il male; guàrdati da lui, acciò ch' elli non induca sopra te ischernimento in perpetuo.
	36 Caccia lo straniero; e se tu non lo cacci, elli ti sovvertirae nelli ravvolgimenti suoi, e faratti smarrire nelle proprie vie.
