Proverbs 29

1 The man who remains stiff-necked and hates rebuke will be crushed suddenly beyond cure.	1 Vir, qui correptiones dura cervice contemnit, subito conteretur absque sanatione.
2 When the just prevail, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan.	2 In multiplicatione iustorum laetabitur vulgus; et in dominatione impii gemet populus.
3 He who loves wisdom makes his father glad, but he who consorts with harlots squanders his wealth.	3 Vir, qui amat sapientiam, laetificat patrem suum; qui autem nutrit scorta, perdet substantiam.
4 By justice a king gives stability to the land; but he who imposes heavy taxes ruins it.	4 Rex in iustitia erigit terram; vir acceptor donorum destruet eam.
5 The man who flatters his neighbor is spreading a net under his feet.	5 Homo, qui blanditur amico suo, rete expandit gressibus eius.
6 The wicked man steps into a snare, but the just man runs on joyfully.	6 In peccato vir iniquus irretitur laqueo, et iustus exsultabit atque gaudebit.
7 The just man has a care for the rights of the poor; the wicked man has no such concern.	7 Novit iustus causam pauperum, impius ignorat scientiam.
8 Arrogant men set the city ablaze, but wise men calm the fury.	8 Homines pestilentes dissipant civitatem; sapientes vero avertunt furorem.
9 If a wise man disputes with a fool, he may rage or laugh but can have no peace.	9 Vir sapiens, si cum stulto iudicio contenderit, sive irascatur sive rideat, non inveniet requiem.
10 Bloodthirsty men hate the honest man, but the upright show concern for his life.	10 Viri sanguinum oderunt simplicem; iusti autem quaerunt animam eius.
11 The fool gives vent to all his anger; but by biding his time, the wise man calms it.	11 Totum spiritum suum profert stultus; sapiens mitigat eum in posterum.
12 If a ruler listens to lying words, his servants all become wicked.	12 Princeps, qui libenter audit verba mendacii, omnes ministros habet impios.
13 The poor and the oppressor have a common bond: the LORD gives light to the eyes of both.	13 Pauper et oppressor obviaverunt sibi, utriusque oculorum illuminator est Dominus.
14 If a king is zealous for the rights of the poor, his throne stands firm forever.	14 Rex, qui iudicat in veritate pauperes, thronus eius in aeternum firmabitur.
15 The rod of correction gives wisdom, but a boy left to his whims disgraces his mother.	15 Virga atque correptio tribuit sapientiam; puer autem, qui dimittitur voluntati suae, confundit matrem suam.
16 When the wicked prevail, crime increases; but their downfall the just will behold.	16 In multiplicatione impiorum multiplicabuntur scelera, et iusti ruinas eorum videbunt.
17 Correct your son, and he will bring you comfort, and give delight to your soul.	17 Erudi filium tuum, et refrigerabit te et dabit delicias animae tuae.
18 Without prophecy the people become demoralized; but happy is he who keeps the law.	18 Cum visio defecerit, dissipabitur populus; qui vero custodit legem, beatus est.
19 By words no servant can be trained; for he understands what is said, but obeys not.	19 Servus verbis non potest erudiri, quia intellegit et respondere contemnit.
20 Do you see a man hasty in his words? More can be hoped for from a fool!	20 Vidisti hominem velocem ad loquendum? Magis illo spem habebit insipiens.
21 If a man pampers his servant from childhood, he will turn out to be stubborn.	21 Qui delicate a pueritia nutrit servum suum, postea sentiet eum contumacem.
22 An ill-tempered man stirs up disputes, and a hotheaded man is the cause of many sins.	22 Vir iracundus provocat rixas; et, qui ad indignandum facilis est, erit ad peccandum proclivior.
23 Man's pride causes his humiliation, but he who is humble of spirit obtains honor.	23 Superbia hominis humiliabit eum, et humilis spiritu suscipiet gloriam.
24 The accomplice of a thief is his own enemy: he hears himself put under a curse, yet discloses nothing.	24 Qui cum fure participat, odit animam suam; adiuramentum audit et non indicat.
25 The fear of man brings a snare, but he who trusts in the LORD is safe.	25 Timor hominis inducit laqueum; qui sperat in Domino, sublevabitur.
26 Many curry favor with the ruler, but the rights of each are from the LORD.	26 Multi requirunt faciem principis; et iudicium a Domino egreditur singulorum.
27 The evildoer is an abomination to the just, and he who walks uprightly is an abomination to the wicked.	27 Abominantur iusti virum impium; et abominantur impii eos, qui recta sunt via.
