Proverbs 25

1 These also are proverbs of Solomon. The men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, transmitted them.	1 - Anche queste sentenze sono di Salomone che stralciaronogli uomini di Ezechia, re di Giuda.
2 God has glory in what he conceals, kings have glory in what they fathom.	2 È gloria di Dio occultare la parola, e gloria del re, investigare la parola.
3 As the heavens in height, and the earth in depth, the heart of kings is unfathomable.	3 Il cielo in altezza e la terra in profonditàe il cuore dei re sono imperscrutabili.
4 Remove the dross from silver, and it comes forth perfectly purified;	4 Togli la scoria dall'argento e ne uscirà un vaso finissimo.
5 Remove the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne is made firm through righteousness.	5 Togli l'empietà dal cospetto del re e si stabilirà sopra la giustizia e il suo trono.
6 Claim no honor in the king's presence, nor occupy the place of great men;	6 Non far pompa di te in presenza del re e non collocarti al posto dei grandi;
7 For it is better that you be told, "Come up closer!" than that you be humbled before the prince.	7 perchè è meglio ti si dica: «Sali qua», che esser umiliato davanti al principe.
8 What your eyes have seen bring not forth hastily against an opponent; For what will you do later on when your neighbor puts you to shame?	8 Ciò che hanno visto gli occhi tuoinon metterlo fuori subito nel contrasto, e non avvenga che tu non possa più rimediare, quando avessi disonorato il tuo prossimo.
9 Discuss your case with your neighbor, but another man's secret do not disclose;	9 Tratta la tua causa col tuo amico, ma il secreto non rivelarlo ad altri;
10 Lest, hearing it, he reproach you, and your ill repute cease not.	10 affinchè se l'ode, non t'insultie non cessi più dal rinfacciartelo. La grazia e l'amicizia liberano e tu conservale per non riuscire biasimevole.
11 Like golden apples in silver settings are words spoken at the proper time.	11 Pomi d'oro in legature d'argentoè una parola detta a suo tempo.
12 Like a golden earring, or a necklace of fine gold, is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.	12 Un orecchino d'oro e una gemma brillantechi dà ammonimenti a un sapiente e a un orecchio docile.
13 Like the coolness of snow in the heat of the harvest is a faithful messenger for the one who sends him. (He refreshes the soul of his master.)	13 Come il fresco della neve in giorno di mietitura, così l'ambasciatore fedele a colui che l'ha mandato, gli fa provare un ristoro all'animo.
14 Like clouds and wind when no rain follows is the man who boastfully promises what he never gives.	14 Nubi e vento senza che segua la pioggiaè un uomo ostentatore, che non dà seguito a ciò che promette.
15 By patience is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a bone.	15 Colla pazienza il principe si lascia addolcire e la lingua molle rompe ogni durezza.
16 If you find honey, eat only what you need, lest you become glutted with it and vomit it up.	16 Hai trovato del miele? mangiane quanto ti basta, affinchè se ti satolli non l'abbia a vomitare.
17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he have more than enough of you, and hate you.	17 Trattieni il piede dall'andare in casa del tuo prossimo, affinchè non si nausei e t'aborrisca.
18 Like a club, or a sword, or a sharp arrow, is the man who bears false witness against his neighbor.	18 Un dardo, una spada, una sa etta acutaè l'uomo che depone contro al suo prossimo in falso testimonio.
19 Like an infected tooth or an unsteady foot is (dependence on) a faithless man in time of trouble.	19 Un dente cariato e un piede cascanteè la fiducia di chi spera in uno sleale nel giorno dell'angustia.
20 Like a moth in clothing, or a maggot in wood, sorrow gnaws at the human heart.	20 Perde il mantello in giorno di freddo.... Aceto sul nitrochi canta arie allegre ad un cuore triste. Come la tignuola al panno e il tarlo al legno, così nuoce la tristezza al cuore dell'uomo.
21 If your enemy be hungry, give him food to eat, if he be thirsty, give him to drink;	21 Se il tuo nemico avrà fame dagli da mangiare, se avrà sete dagli acqua da bere,
22 For live coals you will heap on his head, and the LORD will vindicate you.	22 così facendo, radunerai sul suo capo carboni accesi, e il Signore te ne renderà il merito.
23 The north wind brings rain, and a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.	23 Il vento di tramontana sgomina la pioggia, e una faccia severa, la lingua maledica.
24 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than in a roomy house with a quarrelsome woman.	24 È meglio stare in un angolo del solaio, che con una donna litigiosa e far camera comune.
25 Like cool water to one faint from thirst is good news from a far country.	25 Acqua fresca ad una persona assetataè un buon messaggio di terra lontana.
26 Like a troubled fountain or a polluted spring is a just man who gives way before the wicked.	26 Una fontana sciupata coi piedi, una sorgente intorbidataè il giusto che cede davanti all'empio.
27 To eat too much honey is not good; nor to seek honor after honor.	27 Come a colui che mangia troppo miele non gli fa bene, così chi si fa scrutatore della ma està, sarà oppresso dalla gloria.
28 Like an open city with no defenses is the man with no check on his feelings.	28 Come una città aperta e senza cinta di muro, tal è l'uomo che parlando non può metter ritegno al suo spirito.
