Job 34

1 Then Elihu continued and said:	1 Eliu continuò a dire:
2 Hear, O wise men, my discourse, and you that have knowledge, hear me!	2 Ascoltate, saggi, le mie parole e voi, sapienti, porgetemi l'orecchio,
3 For the ear tests words, as the taste does food.	3 Perché l'orecchio distingue le parole, come il palato assapora i cibi.
4 Let us discern for ourselves what is right; let us learn between us what is good.	4 Esploriamo noi ciò che è giusto, indaghiamo fra di noi quale sia il bene:
5 For Job has said, "I am innocent, but God has taken what is my due.	5 poiché Giobbe ha detto: "Io son giusto, ma Dio mi ha tolto il mio diritto;
6 Notwithstanding my right I am set at nought; in my wound the arrow rankles, sinless though I am."	6 contro il mio diritto passo per menzognero, inguaribile è la mia piaga benché senza colpa".
7 What man is like Job? He drinks in blasphemies like water,	7 Chi è come Giobbe che beve, come l'acqua, l'insulto,
8 Keeps company with evildoers and goes along with wicked men,	8 che fa la strada in compagnia dei malfattori, andando con uomini iniqui?
9 When he says, "It profits a man nought that he is pleasing to God."	9 Poiché egli ha detto: "Non giova all'uomo essere in buona grazia con Dio".
10 Therefore, men of understanding, hearken to me: far be it from God to do wickedness; far from the Almighty to do wrong!	10 Perciò ascoltatemi, uomini di senno: lungi da Dio l'iniquità e dall'Onnipotente l'ingiustizia!
11 Rather, he requites men for their conduct, and brings home to a man his way of life.	11 Poiché egli ripaga l'uomo secondo il suo operato e fa trovare ad ognuno secondo la sua condotta.
12 Surely, God cannot act wickedly, the Almighty cannot violate justice.	12 In verità, Dio non agisce da ingiusto e l'Onnipotente non sovverte il diritto!
13 Who gave him government over the earth, or who else set all the land in its place?	13 Chi mai gli ha affidato la terra e chi ha disposto il mondo intero?
14 If he were to take back his spirit to himself, withdraw to himself his breath,	14 Se egli richiamasse il suo spirito a sé e a sé ritraesse il suo soffio,
15 All flesh would perish together, and man would return to the dust.	15 ogni carne morirebbe all'istante e l'uomo ritornerebbe in polvere.
16 Now, do you, O Job, hear this! Hearken to the words I speak!	16 Se hai intelletto, ascolta bene questo, porgi l'orecchio al suono delle mie parole.
17 Can an enemy of justice indeed be in control, or will you condemn the supreme Just One,	17 Può mai governare chi odia il diritto? E tu osi condannare il Gran Giusto?
18 Who says to a king, "You are worthless!" and to nobles, "You are wicked!"	18 lui che dice ad un re: "Iniquo!" e ai principi: "Malvagi!",
19 Who neither favors the person of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor? For they are all the work of his hands;	19 lui che non usa parzialità con i potenti e non preferisce al povero il ricco, perché tutti costoro sono opera delle sue mani?
20 in a moment they die, even at midnight. He brings on nobles, and takes them away, removing the powerful without lifting a hand;	20 In un istante muoiono e nel cuore della notte sono colpiti i potenti e periscono; e senza sforzo rimuove i tiranni,
21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he beholds all his steps.	21 poiché egli tiene gli occhi sulla condotta dell'uomo e vede tutti i suoi passi.
22 There is no darkness so dense that evildoers can hide in it.	22 Non vi è tenebra, non densa oscurità, dove possano nascondersi i malfattori.
23 For he forewarns no man of his time to come before God in judgment.	23 Poiché non si pone all'uomo un termine per comparire davanti a Dio in giudizio:
24 Without a trial he breaks the mighty, and sets others in their stead,	24 egli fiacca i potenti, senza fare inchieste, e colloca altri al loro posto.
25 Therefore he discerns their works; he turns at night and crushes them.	25 Poiché conosce le loro opere, li travolge nella notte e sono schiacciati;
	26 come malvagi li percuote, li colpisce alla vista di tutti;
27 Because they turned away from him and heeded none of his ways,	27 perché si sono allontanati da lui e di tutte le sue vie non si sono curati,
28 But caused the cries of the poor to reach him, so that he heard the plea of the afflicted.	28 sì da far giungere fino a lui il grido dell'oppresso e fargli udire il lamento dei poveri.
29 If he remains tranquil, who then can condemn? If he hides his face, who then can behold him?	29 Se egli tace, chi lo può condannare? Se vela la faccia, chi lo può vedere? Ma sulle nazioni e sugli individui egli veglia,
	30 perché non regni un uomo perverso, perché il popolo non abbia inciampi.
31 When anyone says to God, "I was misguided; I will offend no more.	31 Si può dunque dire a Dio: "Porto la pena, senza aver fatto il male;
32 Teach me wherein I have sinned; if I have done wrong, I will do so no more,"	32 se ho peccato, mostramelo; se ho commesso l'iniquità, non lo farò più"?
33 Would you then say that God must punish, since you reject what he is doing? It is you who must choose, not I; speak, therefore, what you know.	33 Forse, secondo le tue idee dovrebbe ricompensare, perché tu rifiuti il suo giudizio? Poiché tu devi scegliere, non io, di', dunque, quello che sai.
34 Men of understanding will say to me, every wise man who hears my views:	34 Gli uomini di senno mi diranno con l'uomo saggio che mi ascolta:
35 "Job speaks without intelligence, and his words are without sense."	35 "Giobbe non parla con sapienza e le sue parole sono prive di senno".
36 Let Job be tried to the limit, since his answers are those of the impious;	36 Bene, Giobbe sia esaminato fino in fondo, per le sue risposte da uomo empio,
37 For he is adding rebellion to his sin by brushing off our arguments and addressing many words to God.	37 perché aggiunge al suo peccato la rivolta, in mezzo a noi batte le mani e moltiplica le parole contro Dio.
