Abraham married another wife, whose name was Keturah.1 Abraham prit encore une femme, qui s'appelait Qetura.
She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.2 Elle lui enfanta Zimrân, Yoqshân, Medân, Madiân, Yishbaq etShuah. --
Jokshan became the father of Sheba and Dedan. The descendants of Dedan were the Asshurim, the Letushim, and the Leummim.3 Yoqshân engendra Sheba et Dedân, et les fils de Dedân furent les Ashshurites, les Letushim et lesLéummim. --
The descendants of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All of these were descendants of Keturah.4 Fils de Madiân: Epha, Epher, Hanok, Abida, Eldaa. Tous ceux-là sont fils de Qetura.
Abraham deeded everything that he owned to his son Isaac.5 Abraham donna tous ses biens à Isaac.
To his sons by concubinage, however, he made grants while he was still living, as he sent them away eastward, to the land of Kedem, away from his son Isaac.6 Quant aux fils de ses concubines, Abraham leur fit des présents et les envoya, de son vivant, loinde son fils Isaac, à l'est, au pays d'Orient.
The whole span of Abraham's life was one hundred and seventy-five years.7 Voici la durée de la vie d'Abraham: 175 ans.
Then he breathed his last, dying at a ripe old age, grown old after a full life; and he was taken to his kinsmen.8 Puis Abraham expira, il mourut dans une vieillesse heureuse, âgé et rassasié de jours, et il fut réunià sa parenté.
His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron, son of Zohar the Hittite, which faces Mamre,9 Isaac et Ismaël, ses fils, l'enterrèrent dans la grotte de Makpéla, dans le champ d'Ephrôn fils deCohar, le Hittite, qui est vis-à-vis de Mambré.
the field that Abraham had bought from the Hittites; there he was buried next to his wife Sarah.10 C'est le champ qu'Abraham avait acheté aux fils de Hèt; là furent enterrés Abraham et sa femmeSara.
After the death of Abraham, God blessed his son Isaac, who made his home near Beer-lahai-roi.11 Après la mort d'Abraham, Dieu bénit son fils Isaac, et Isaac habita près du puits de Lahaï-Roï.
These are the descendants of Abraham's son Ishmael, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's slave, bore to Abraham.12 Voici la descendance d'Ismaël, le fils d'Abraham, que lui enfanta Agar, la servante égyptienne deSara.
These are the names of Ishmael's sons, listed in the order of their birth: Nebaioth (Ishmael's firstborn), Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,13 Voici les noms des fils d'Ismaël, selon leurs noms et leur lignée: le premier-né d'Ismaël Nebayot, puis Qédar, Adbéel, Mibsam,

These are the sons of Ishmael, their names by their villages and encampments; twelve chieftains of as many tribal groups.16 Ce sont là les fils d'Ismaël et tels sont leurs noms, d'après leurs douars et leurs camps, douze chefsd'autant de clans.
The span of Ishmael's life was one hundred and thirty-seven years. After he had breathed his last and died, he was taken to his kinsmen.17 Voici la durée de la vie d'Ismaël: 137 ans. Puis il expira; il mourut et il fut réuni à sa parenté.
The Ishmaelites ranged from Havilah-by-Shur, which is on the border of Egypt, all the way to Asshur; and each of them pitched camp in opposition to his various kinsmen.18 Il habita depuis Havila jusqu'à Shur, qui est à l'est de l'Egypte, en allant vers l'Assyrie. Il s'étaitétabli à la face de tous ses frères.
This is the family history of Isaac, son of Abraham; Abraham had begotten Isaac.19 Voici l'histoire d'Isaac fils d'Abraham. Abraham engendra Isaac.
Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan-aram and the sister of Laban the Aramean.20 Isaac avait 40 ans lorsqu'il épousa Rébecca, fille de Bétuel, l'Araméen de Paddân-Aram, et sœurde Laban l'Araméen.
Isaac entreated the LORD on behalf of his wife, since she was sterile. The LORD heard his entreaty, and Rebekah became pregnant.21 Isaac implora Yahvé pour sa femme, car elle était stérile: Yahvé l'exauça et sa femme Rébeccadevint enceinte.
But the children in her womb jostled each other so much that she exclaimed, "If this is to be so, what good will it do me!" She went to consult the LORD,22 Or les enfants se heurtaient en elle et elle dit: "S'il en est ainsi, à quoi bon vivre?" Elle alla doncconsulter Yahvé,
and he answered her: "Two nations are in your womb, two peoples are quarreling while still within you; But one shall surpass the other, and the older shall serve the younger."23 et Yahvé lui dit: "Il y a deux nations en ton sein, deux peuples, issus de toi, se sépareront, unpeuple dominera un peuple, l'aîné servira le cadet."
When the time of her delivery came, there were twins in her womb.24 Quand vint le temps de ses couches, voici qu'elle portait des jumeaux.
The first to emerge was reddish, and his whole body was like a hairy mantle; so they named him Esau.25 Le premier sortit: il était roux et tout entier comme un manteau de poils; on l'appela Esaü.
His brother came out next, gripping Esau's heel; so they named him Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when they were born.26 Ensuite sortit son frère et sa main tenait le talon d'Esaü; on l'appela Jacob. Isaac avait 60 ans àleur naissance.
As the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter, a man who lived in the open; whereas Jacob was a simple man, who kept to his tents.27 Les garçons grandirent: Esaü devint un habile chasseur, courant la steppe, Jacob était un hommetranquille, demeurant sous les tentes.
Isaac preferred Esau, because he was fond of game; but Rebekah preferred Jacob.28 Isaac préférait Esaü car le gibier était à son goût, mais Rébecca préférait Jacob.
Once, when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau came in from the open, famished.29 Une fois, Jacob prépara un potage et Esaü revint de la campagne, épuisé.
He said to Jacob, "Let me gulp down some of that red stuff; I'm starving." (That is why he was called Edom.)30 Esaü dit à Jacob: "Laisse-moi avaler ce roux, ce roux-là; je suis épuisé" -- C'est pourquoi on l'aappelé Edom. --
But Jacob replied, "First give me your birthright in exchange for it."31 Jacob dit: "Vends-moi d'abord ton droit d'aînesse.
"Look," said Esau, "I'm on the point of dying. What good will any birthright do me?"32 Esaü répondit: "Voici que je vais mourir, à quoi me servira le droit d'aînesse?"
But Jacob insisted, "Swear to me first!" So he sold Jacob his birthright under oath.33 Jacob reprit: "Prête-moi d'abord serment"; il lui prêta serment et vendit son droit d'aînesse àJacob.
Jacob then gave him some bread and the lentil stew; and Esau ate, drank, got up, and went his way. Esau cared little for his birthright.34 Alors Jacob lui donna du pain et du potage de lentilles, il mangea et but, se leva et partit. C'esttout le cas qu'Esaü fit du droit d'aînesse.
