KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:1 So I exhort the presbyters among you, as a fellow presbyter and witness to the sufferings of Christ and one who has a share in the glory to be revealed.
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;2 Tend the flock of God in your midst, (overseeing) not by constraint but willingly, as God would have it, not for shameful profit but eagerly.
Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.3 Do not lord it over those assigned to you, but be examples to the flock.
And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.4 And when the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.5 Likewise, you younger members, be subject to the presbyters. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for: "God opposes the proud but bestows favor on the humble."
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:6 So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.7 Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:8 Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for (someone) to devour.
Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.9 Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your fellow believers throughout the world undergo the same sufferings.
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.10 The God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory through Christ (Jesus) will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you after you have suffered a little.
To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.11 To him be dominion forever. Amen.
By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.12 I write you this briefly through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, exhorting you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Remain firm in it.
The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.13 The chosen one at Babylon sends you greeting, as does Mark, my son.
Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.14 Greet one another with a loving kiss. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
