KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God on their behalf is for salvation.
For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.2 I testify with regard to them that they have zeal for God, but it is not discerning.
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.3 For, in their unawareness of the righteousness that comes from God and their attempt to establish their own (righteousness), they did not submit to the righteousness of God.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.4 For Christ is the end of the law for the justification of everyone who has faith.
For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.5 Moses writes about the righteousness that comes from (the) law, "The one who does these things will live by them."
But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)6 But the righteousness that comes from faith says, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will go up into heaven?' (that is, to bring Christ down)
Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)7 or 'Who will go down into the abyss?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead)."
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;8 But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith that we preach),
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.9 for, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.10 For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved.
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.11 For the scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame."
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, enriching all who call upon him.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.13 For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?14 But how can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!15 And how can people preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring (the) good news!"
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?16 But not everyone has heeded the good news; for Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what was heard from us?"
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.17 Thus faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.
But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.18 But I ask, did they not hear? Certainly they did; for "Their voice has gone forth to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world."
But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.19 But I ask, did not Israel understand? First Moses says: "I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a senseless nation I will make you angry."
But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.20 Then Isaiah speaks boldly and says: "I was found (by) those who were not seeking me; I revealed myself to those who were not asking for me."
But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.21 But regarding Israel he says, "All day long I stretched out my hands to a disobedient and contentious people."
