KING JAMES BIBLEVULGATA
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.1 Tunc simile erit regnum cælorum decem virginibus : quæ accipientes lampades suas exierunt obviam sponso et sponsæ.
And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.2 Quinque autem ex eis erant fatuæ, et quinque prudentes :
They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:3 sed quinque fatuæ, acceptis lampadibus, non sumpserunt oleum secum :
But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.4 prudentes vero acceperunt oleum in vasis suis cum lampadibus.
While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.5 Moram autem faciente sponso, dormitaverunt omnes et dormierunt.
And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.6 Media autem nocte clamor factus est : Ecce sponsus venit, exite obviam ei.
Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.7 Tunc surrexerunt omnes virgines illæ, et ornaverunt lampades suas.
And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.8 Fatuæ autem sapientibus dixerunt : Date nobis de oleo vestro, quia lampades nostræ extinguuntur.
But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.9 Responderunt prudentes, dicentes : Ne forte non sufficiat nobis, et vobis, ite potius ad vendentes, et emite vobis.
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.10 Dum autem irent emere, venit sponsus : et quæ paratæ erant, intraverunt cum eo ad nuptias, et clausa est janua.
Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.11 Novissime vero veniunt et reliquæ virgines, dicentes : Domine, domine, aperi nobis.
But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.12 At ille respondens, ait : Amen dico vobis, nescio vos.
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.13 Vigilate itaque, quia nescitis diem, neque horam.
For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.14 Sicut enim homo peregre proficiscens, vocavit servos suos, et tradidit illis bona sua.
And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.15 Et uni dedit quinque talenta, alii autem duo, alii vero unum, unicuique secundum propriam virtutem : et profectus est statim.
Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.16 Abiit autem qui quinque talenta acceperat, et operatus est in eis, et lucratus est alia quinque.
And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.17 Similiter et qui duo acceperat, lucratus est alia duo.
But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.18 Qui autem unum acceperat, abiens fodit in terram, et abscondit pecuniam domini sui.
After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.19 Post multum vero temporis venit dominus servorum illorum, et posuit rationem cum eis.
And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.20 Et accedens qui quinque talenta acceperat, obtulit alia quinque talenta, dicens : Domine, quinque talenta tradidisti mihi, ecce alia quinque superlucratus sum.
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.21 Ait illi dominus ejus : Euge serve bone, et fidelis : quia super pauca fuisti fidelis, super multa te constituam ; intra in gaudium domini tui.
He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.22 Accessit autem et qui duo talenta acceperat, et ait : Domine, duo talenta tradidisti mihi, ecce alia duo lucratus sum.
His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.23 Ait illi dominus ejus : Euge serve bone, et fidelis : quia super pauca fuisti fidelis, super multa te constituam ; intra in gaudium domini tui.
Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:24 Accedens autem et qui unum talentum acceperat, ait : Domine, scio quia homo durus es ; metis ubi non seminasti, et congregas ubi non sparsisti :
And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.25 et timens abii, et abscondi talentum tuum in terra : ecce habes quod tuum est.
His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:26 Respondens autem dominus ejus, dixit ei : Serve male, et piger, sciebas quia meto ubi non semino, et congrego ubi non sparsi :
Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.27 oportuit ergo te committere pecuniam meam numulariis, et veniens ego recepissem utique quod meum est cum usura.
Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.28 Tollite itaque ab eo talentum, et date ei qui habet decem talenta :
For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.29 omni enim habenti dabitur, et abundabit : ei autem qui non habet, et quod videtur habere, auferetur ab eo.
And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.30 Et inutilem servum ejicite in tenebras exteriores : illic erit fletus, et stridor dentium.
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:31 Cum autem venerit Filius hominis in majestate sua, et omnes angeli cum eo, tunc sedebit super sedem majestatis suæ :
And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:32 et congregabuntur ante eum omnes gentes, et separabit eos ab invicem, sicut pastor segregat oves ab hædis :
And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.33 et statuet oves quidem a dextris suis, hædos autem a sinistris.
Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:34 Tunc dicet rex his qui a dextris ejus erunt : Venite benedicti Patris mei, possidete paratum vobis regnum a constitutione mundi :
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:35 esurivi enim, et dedistis mihi manducare : sitivi, et dedistis mihi bibere : hospes eram, et collegistis me :
Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.36 nudus, et cooperuistis me : infirmus, et visitastis me : in carcere eram, et venistis ad me.
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?37 Tunc respondebunt ei justi, dicentes : Domine, quando te vidimus esurientem, et pavimus te : sitientem, et dedimus tibi potum ?
When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?38 quando autem te vidimus hospitem, et collegimus te : aut nudum, et cooperuimus te ?
Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?39 aut quando te vidimus infirmum, aut in carcere, et venimus ad te ?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.40 Et respondens rex, dicet illis : Amen dico vobis, quamdiu fecistis uni ex his fratribus meis minimis, mihi fecistis.
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:41 Tunc dicet et his qui a sinistris erunt : Discedite a me maledicti in ignem æternum, qui paratus est diabolo, et angelis ejus :
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:42 esurivi enim, et non dedistis mihi manducare : sitivi, et non dedistis mihi potum :
I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.43 hospes eram, et non collegistis me : nudus, et non cooperuistis me : infirmus, et in carcere, et non visitastis me.
Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?44 Tunc respondebunt ei et ipsi, dicentes : Domine, quando te vidimus esurientem, aut sitientem, aut hospitem, aut nudum, aut infirmum, aut in carcere, et non ministravimus tibi ?
Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.45 Tunc respondebit illis, dicens : Amen dico vobis : Quamdiu non fecistis uni de minoribus his, nec mihi fecistis.
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.46 Et ibunt hi in supplicium æternum : justi autem in vitam æternam.
