Proverbs 4

1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.	1 Ascoltate, o figli, l'istruzione paterna, state attenti per imparar la prudenza.
2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.	2 Io vi farò un eccellente dono; guardatevi dall'abbandonare i miei precetti.
3 For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.	3 Infatti anch'io fui un figlio diletto per mio padre, e come unigenito per mia madre.
4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.	4 E mio padre m'ammaestrava e mi diceva: « Accogli nel tuo cuore le mie parole, osserva i miei precetti e vivrai ».
5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.	5 Acquista la sapienza, acquista la prudenza, non dimenticare le parole della mia bocca e non ti scostare da loro.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.	6 Non abbandonare la sapienza, ed essa ti custodirà, amala ed essa ti conserverà.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.	7 Principio della sapienza è: « Acquista la sapienza »; con tutto il tuo acquista la prudenza,
8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.	8 Afferrala cessa ti esalterà: sarai da lei reso glorioso quando l'avrai abbracciata.
9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.	9 Aggiungerà al tuo capo ornamenti di grazie, e ti cingerà eli inclita corona.
10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.	10 Dai ascolto, o figlio mio, accogli le mie parole, affinchè si moltiplichino gli anni della tua vita.
11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.	11 Io ti mostrerò la via della sapienza, ti guiderò per i sentieri dell'equità.
12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.	12 E quando vi sarai entrato non saranno intralciati i tuoi passi, e nella corsa non troverai inciampi.
13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.	13 Attienti alla disciplina e non l'abbandonare, osservala, perchè essa è la tua vita.
14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.	14 Non ti lasciare attirare nei sentieri degli empi, non ti sia gradita la via dei malvagi.
15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.	15 Fuggila, non vi mettere il piede, evitala, abbandonala.
16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.	16 Essi non dormono se non han fatto del male, non possono prender sonno se non han procurato qualche rovina.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.	17 Mangiano il pane dell'empietà e bevono il vino dell'ingiustizia.
18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.	18 Il sentiero dei giusti è come luce che brilla, e va crescendo fino a giorno perfetto.
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.	19 La via degli empi è tenebrosa: non sanno dove vanno a cascare.
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.	20 Figlio mio, ascolta le mie parole, porgi l'orecchio ai miei detti,
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.	21 non li perdere mai di vista, custodiscili in mezzo al tuo cuore,
22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.	22 perchè son la vita di chi li trova e la sanità per ogni mortale.
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.	23 Con ogni cura custodisci il tuo cuore, perchè da esso procede la vita.
24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.	24 Scaccia da te la bocca perversa, sian lungi da te le labbra maldicenti.
25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.	25 Gli occhi tuoi vedano ciò che è retto e le tue palpebre precedano i tuoi passi.
26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.	26 Rendi diritto il sentiero pei tuoi piedi, e tutte le tue vie saran rese sicure.
27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.	27 Non piegar nè a destra nè a sinistra, ritira il tuo piede dal male; perchè le vie che sono alla destra il Signore le riconosce, ma quelle della sinistra son perverse: Egli renderà diritta la tua corsa, e il tuo cammino sarà nella pace.
