Deutéronome 17

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Tu n'immoleras pas à Yahvé ton Dieu une pièce de gros ou de petit bétail qui ait une tare ouun défaut quelconque, car Yahvé ton Dieu a cela en abomination.	1 'To Yahweh your God you must sacrifice nothing from herd or flock that has any blemish or defectwhatsoever, for Yahweh your God holds this detestable.
2 S'il se trouve au milieu de toi, dans l'une des villes que Yahvé ton Dieu t'aura données, unhomme ou une femme qui fasse ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahvé ton Dieu, en transgressant son alliance,	2 'If there is anyone, man or woman, among you in any of the towns given you by Yahweh your God,who does what is wrong in the eyes of Yahweh your God by violating his covenant,
3 qui aille servir d'autres dieux et se prosterner devant eux, et devant le soleil, la lune ouquelque autre de l'armée des cieux, ce que je n'ai pas commandé,	3 who goes and serves other gods and worships them, or the sun or the moon or any of heaven's array-- a thing I have forbidden-
4 et qu'on te le dénonce; si, après l'avoir entendu et fait une bonne enquête, le fait est avéré ets'il est bien établi que cette chose abominable a été commise en Israël,	4 and this person is denounced to you: if after careful enquiry it is found true and confirmed that thishateful thing has been done in Israel,
5 tu feras sortir aux portes de ta ville cet homme ou cette femme coupable de cette mauvaiseaction, et tu lapideras cet homme ou cette femme jusqu'à ce que mort s'ensuive.	5 you must take the man or woman guilty of this evil deed outside your city gates, and there you muststone that man or woman to death.
6 On ne pourra être condamné à mort qu'au dire de deux ou trois témoins, on ne sera pas mis àmort au dire d'un seul témoin.	6 A death sentence may be passed only on the word of two witnesses or three; and no one must be putto death on the word of one witness alone.
7 Les témoins mettront les premiers la main à l'exécution du condamné, puis tout le peuple ymettra la main. Tu feras disparaître le mal du milieu de toi.	7 The witnesses' hands must strike the first blow in putting the condemned to death, the rest of thepeople fol owing. You must banish this evil from among you.
8 Si tu as à juger un cas qui te dépasse, affaire de meurtre, contestation ou voie de fait, unlitige quelconque dans ta ville, tu partiras et tu monteras au lieu choisi par Yahvé ton Dieu,	8 'If a case comes before you which is too difficult for you, a case of murder, conflicting claims, damageto property -- any kind of dispute -- in your towns, you must make your way to the place chosen by Yahweh yourGod,
9 tu iras trouver les prêtres lévites et le juge alors en fonction. Ils feront une enquête, et ils teferont connaître la sentence.	9 and approach the levitical priests and the judge then in office. They will hold an enquiry and let youknow their sentence.
10 Tu te conformeras à la parole qu'ils t'auront fait connaître en ce lieu choisi par Yahvé, et tuprendras garde d'agir selon toutes leurs instructions.	10 You must abide by the verdict which they give you in this place chosen by Yahweh, and you wil takecare to carry out al their instructions.
11 Tu te conformeras à la décision qu'ils t'auront fait connaître et à la sentence qu'ils aurontprononcée, sans t'écarter ni à droite ni à gauche de la parole qu'ils t'auront fait connaître.	11 You wil abide by the decision which they give you and by the sentence which they pronounce, notdeviating to right or to left from the verdict which they have given you.
12 Si quelqu'un agit présomptueusement, n'obéissant ni au prêtre qui se tient là pour le servicede Yahvé ton Dieu, ni au juge, cet homme mourra. Tu feras disparaître d'Israël le mal.	12 If anyone presumes to disobey either the priest who is there in the service of Yahweh your God, orthe judge, that person must die. You must banish this evil from Israel.
13 Le peuple l'apprendra, craindra, et cessera d'agir avec présomption.	13 And when the people hear of this they will al be afraid and not act presumptuously any more.
14 Lorsque tu seras arrivé en ce pays que Yahvé ton Dieu te donne, que tu en auras prispossession et que tu y habiteras, si tu te dis: "Je veux établir sur moi un roi, comme toutes les nations d'alentour",	14 'If, having reached the country given by Yahweh your God and having taken possession of it and,while living there, you think, "I should like to appoint a king to rule me -- like al the surrounding nations,"
15 c'est un roi choisi par Yahvé ton Dieu que tu devras établir sur toi, c'est quelqu'un d'entretes frères que tu établiras sur toi comme roi, tu ne pourras pas te donner un roi étranger qui ne soit pas ton frère.	15 the king whom you appoint to rule you must be chosen by Yahweh your God; the appointment of aking must be made from your own brothers; on no account must you appoint as king some foreigner who is not abrother of yours.
16 Mais qu'il n'aille pas multiplier ses chevaux, et qu'il ne ramène pas le peuple en Egyptepour accroître sa cavalerie, car Yahvé vous a dit: "Vous ne retournerez jamais par ce chemin."	16 'He must not, however, acquire more and more horses, or send the people back to Egypt with a viewto increasing his cavalry, since Yahweh has told you, "You must never go back that way again."
17 Qu'il ne multiplie pas le nombre de ses femmes, ce qui pourrait égarer son coeur. Qu'il nemultiplie pas à l'excès son argent et son or.	17 Nor must he keep on acquiring more and more wives, for that could lead his heart astray. Nor musthe acquire vast quantities of silver and gold.
18 Lorsqu'il montera sur le trône royal, il devra écrire sur un rouleau, pour son usage, unecopie de cette Loi, sous la dictée des prêtres lévites.	18 Once seated on his royal throne, and for his own use, he must write a copy of this Law on a scrol , atthe dictation of the levitical priests.
19 Elle ne le quittera pas; il la lira tous les jours de sa vie, pour apprendre à craindre Yahvéson Dieu en gardant toutes les paroles de cette Loi, ainsi que ces règles pour les mettre en pratique.	19 It must never leave him, and he must read it every day of his life and learn to fear Yahweh his Godby keeping al the words of this Law and observing these rules,
20 Il évitera ainsi de s'enorgueillir au-dessus de ses frères, et il ne s'écartera de cescommandements ni à droite ni à gauche. A cette condition, il aura lui et ses fils, de longs jours sur le trône enIsraël.	20 so that he wil not think himself superior to his brothers, and not deviate from these commandmentseither to right or to left. So doing, long will he occupy his throne, he and his sons, in Israel.'
