1 Die Rubeniter und die Gaditer hatten sehr große Viehherden. Als sie nun das Land Jaser und das Land Gilead sahen, erschien ihnen diese Gegend gut geeignet für ihre Viehhaltung.	1 Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle; and they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place was a place for cattle.
2 Darum kamen sie zu Mose, zu dem Priester Eleasar und zu den Anführern der Gemeinde und sagten:	2 So the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and said to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the congregation,
3 Atarot, Dibon, Jaser, Nimra, Heschbon, Elale, Sibma, Nebo und Beon,	3 "Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,
4 das Land, das der Herr für die Gemeinde Israel erobert hat, ist gut geeignet für die Viehhaltung und deine Knechte haben Viehherden.	4 the land which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle; and your servants have cattle."
5 Sie sagten: Wenn wir dein Wohlwollen gefunden haben, dann gebe man dieses Land deinen Knechten als Besitz. Nimm uns nicht über den Jordan mit!	5 And they said, "If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession; do not take us across the Jordan."
6 Mose antwortete den Gaditern und den Rubenitern: Sollen eure Brüder in den Krieg ziehen, während ihr hier sitzen bleibt?	6 But Moses said to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, "Shall your brethren go to the war while you sit here?
7 Warum wollt ihr den Israeliten den Mut nehmen, in das Land hinüberzuziehen, das der Herr für sie bestimmt hat?	7 Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD has given them?
8 Genauso haben es schon eure Väter gemacht, als ich sie von Kadesch-Barnea ausgeschickt hatte, damit sie das Land erkundeten.	8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.
9 Sie waren bis zum Traubental hinaufgekommen, hatten das Land gesehen und haben dann den Israeliten den Mut genommen, sodass sie das Land nicht mehr betreten wollten, das der Herr für sie bestimmt hatte.	9 For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the people of Israel from going into the land which the LORD had given them.
10 Damals entbrannte der Zorn des Herrn und er schwor:	10 And the LORD's anger was kindled on that day, and he swore, saying,
11 Auf keinen Fall werden die, die aus Ägypten heraufgekommen sind, die Männer von zwanzig Jahren und darüber, das Land zu sehen bekommen, das ich Abraham, Isaak und Jakob mit einem Eid zugesichert habe; denn sie haben nicht treu zu mir gehalten.	11 'Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, because they have not wholly followed me;
12 Nur der Kenasiter Kaleb, der Sohn Jefunnes, und Josua, der Sohn Nuns, waren ausgenommen, denn sie hielten treu zum Herrn.	12 none except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed the LORD.'
13 Der Zorn des Herrn entbrannte über Israel und er ließ sie vierzig Jahre lang in der Wüste umherirren, bis die ganze Generation ausgestorben war, die getan hatte, was dem Herrn missfiel.	13 And the LORD's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the LORD was consumed.
14 Und jetzt kommt ihr anstelle eurer Väter, ihr Brut von Sündern, um den glühenden Zorn des Herrn auf Israel noch größer zu machen?	14 And behold, you have risen in your fathers' stead, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of the LORD against Israel!
15 Wenn ihr euch von ihm abwendet, wird er dieses ganze Volk noch länger in der Wüste lassen und ihr richtet das ganze Volk zugrunde.	15 For if you turn away from following him, he will again abandon them in the wilderness; and you will destroy all this people."
16 Doch sie traten noch näher an Mose heran und sagten: Wir errichten hier Pferche für unser Vieh, unsere Schafe und Ziegen, und bauen Städte für unsere Kinder.	16 Then they came near to him, and said, "We will build sheepfolds here for our flocks, and cities for our little ones,
17 Wir selbst aber rüsten uns und ziehen bewaffnet vor den Israeliten her, bis wir sie in ihr Land gebracht haben. Unterdessen werden unsere Kinder in den Städten wohnen, die zum Schutz gegen die Einwohner des Landes befestigt sind.	17 but we will take up arms, ready to go before the people of Israel, until we have brought them to their place; and our little ones shall live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
18 Wir kehren nicht in unsere Häuser zurück, bevor jeder Israelit seinen Erbbesitz erhalten hat.	18 We will not return to our homes until the people of Israel have inherited each his inheritance.
19 Wir verlangen auf der anderen Seite des Jordan keinen Erbbesitz wie sie, wenn wir diesseits, östlich des Jordan, unseren Erbbesitz bekommen.	19 For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond; because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan to the east."
20 Mose antwortete ihnen: Wenn ihr das tut, wenn ihr euch also vor den Augen des Herrn zum Kampf rüstet	20 So Moses said to them, "If you will do this, if you will take up arms to go before the LORD for the war,
21 und jeder von euch, der sich gerüstet hat, vor den Augen des Herrn den Jordan überschreitet und kämpft, bis er seine Feinde vertrieben hat	21 and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before the LORD, until he has driven out his enemies from before him
22 und das Land dem Herrn unterworfen ist, dann dürft ihr nachher umkehren und ihr seid gegenüber dem Herrn und Israel frei von weiteren Verpflichtungen. Dann soll dieses Land vor den Augen des Herrn euch als Eigentum gehören.	22 and the land is subdued before the LORD; then after that you shall return and be free of obligation to the LORD and to Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.
23 Wenn ihr das aber nicht tut, versündigt ihr euch gegen den Herrn. Dann habt ihr die Folgen für eure Sünde zu tragen; das müsst ihr wissen.	23 But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out.
24 Baut euch Städte für eure Kinder und errichtet Pferche für eure Schafe und Ziegen! Aber haltet auch, was ihr versprochen habt.	24 Build cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do what you have promised."
25 Da sagten die Gaditer und die Rubeniter zu Mose: Deine Knechte werden tun, was mein Herr befiehlt.	25 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben said to Moses, "Your servants will do as my lord commands.
26 Unsere Kinder, unsere Frauen und unsere Herden, unser ganzes Vieh, werden dort in den Städten von Gilead bleiben.	26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall remain there in the cities of Gilead;
27 Alle deine Knechte aber werden sich rüsten und vor den Augen des Herrn über den Jordan in den Krieg ziehen, wie mein Herr befiehlt.	27 but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord orders."
28 Für sie gab Mose dem Priester Eleasar, Josua, dem Sohn Nuns, und den Familienhäuptern der israelitischen Stämme folgende Weisung:	28 So Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel.
29 Er sagte zu ihnen: Wenn die Gaditer und die Rubeniter, zum Kampf gerüstet, vor den Augen des Herrn mit euch den Jordan überschreiten und wenn ihr das Land unterworfen habt, dann gebt ihnen das Land Gilead zum Besitz!	29 And Moses said to them, "If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, every man who is armed to battle before the LORD, will pass with you over the Jordan and the land shall be subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession;
30 Wenn sie sich aber nicht rüsten und mit euch hinübergehen, dann sollen sie mitten unter euch in Kanaan eigenen Grund und Boden erhalten.	30 but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan."
31 Die Gaditer und die Rubeniter antworteten: Was der Herr zu deinen Knechten sagt, werden wir tun.	31 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, "As the LORD has said to your servants, so we will do.
32 Wir rüsten uns und ziehen vor den Augen des Herrn nach Kanaan hinüber, dann bleibt uns jenseits des Jordan unser Erbbesitz erhalten.	32 We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan."
33 Da übergab Mose den Gaditern, den Rubenitern und dem halben Stamm des Manasse, des Sohnes Josefs, das Reich des Amoriterkönigs Sihon und das Reich Ogs, des Königs des Baschan, das Land mit seinen Städten und deren ganzen Umgebung, soweit das Land reichte.	33 And Moses gave to them, to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories, the cities of the land throughout the country.
34 Die Gaditer erbauten die befestigten Städte Dibon, Atarot, Aroër,	34 And the sons of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
35 Atrot-Schofan, Jaser, Jogboha,	35 Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,
36 Bet-Nimra und Bet-Haran und errichteten Schafpferche.	36 Beth-nimrah and Beth-haran, fortified cities, and folds for sheep.
37 Die Rubeniter erbauten Heschbon, Elale, Kirjatajim,	37 And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
38 Nebo und Baal-Meon, denen sie andere Namen gaben, sowie Sibma. Sie gaben nämlich den Städten, die sie wieder aufbauten, neue Namen.	38 Nebo, and Baal-meon (their names to be changed), and Sibmah; and they gave other names to the cities which they built.
39 Die Söhne Machirs, des Sohnes des Manasse, zogen nach Gilead und eroberten es. Sie vertrieben die Amoriter, die dort lebten.	39 And the sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it.
40 Da übergab Mose Gilead dem Machir, dem Sohn des Manasse, und Machir ließ sich dort nieder.	40 And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he settled in it.
41 Jaïr, der Sohn des Manasse, zog in den Kampf und eroberte die Zeltdörfer der Amoriter; er nannte sie Hawot-Jaïr (Zeltdörfer Jaïrs).	41 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took their villages, and called them Havvoth-jair.
42 Nobach zog in den Kampf, eroberte Kenat und seine Tochterstädte und nannte es nach seinem eigenen Namen Nobach.	42 And Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
