1 And it came to pass, that when the multitudes pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Genesareth,	1 Estaba él a la orilla del lago Genesaret y la gente se agolpaba sobre él para oír la Palabra de Dios,
2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.	2 cuando vio dos barcas que estaban a la orilla del lago. Los pescadores habían bajado de ellas, y lavaban las redes.
3 And going into one of the ships that was Simon's, he desired him to draw back a little from the land. And sitting he taught the multitudes out of the ship.	3 Subiendo a una de las barcas, que era de Simón, le rogó que se alejara un poco de tierra; y, sentándose, enseñaba desde la barca a la muchedumbre.
4 Now when he had ceased to speak, he said to Simon: Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.	4 Cuando acabó de hablar, dijo a Simón: «Boga mar adentro, y echad vuestras redes para pescar».
5 And Simon answering said to him: Master, we have labored all the night, and have taken nothing: but at thy word I will let down the net.	5 Simón le respondió: «Maestro, hemos estado bregando toda la noche y no hemos pescado nada; pero, en tu palabra, echaré las redes».
6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a very great multitude of fishes, and their net broke.	6 Y, haciéndolo así, pescaron gran cantidad de peces, de modo que las redes amenazaban romperse.
7 And they beckoned to their partners that were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they were almost sinking.	7 Hicieron señas a los compañeros de la otra barca para que vinieran en su ayuda. Vinieron, pues, y llenaron tanto las dos barcas que casi se hundían.
8 Which when Simon Peter saw, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying: Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.	8 Al verlo Simón Pedro, cayó a las rodillas de Jesús, diciendo: «Aléjate de mí, Señor, que soy un hombre pecador».
9 For he was wholly astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken.	9 Pues el asombro se había apoderado de él y de cuantos con él estaban, a causa de los peces que habían pescado.
10 And so were also James and John the sons of Zebedee, who were Simon's partners. And Jesus saith to Simon: Fear not: from henceforth thou shalt catch men.	10 Y lo mismo de Santiago y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, que eran compañeros de Simón. Jesús dijo a Simón: «No temas. Desde ahora serás pescador de hombres».
11 And having brought their ships to land, leaving all things, they followed him.	11 Llevaron a tierra las barcas y, dejándolo todo, le siguieron.
12 And it came to pass, when he was ina certain city, behold a man full of leprosy, who seeing Jesus, and falling on his face, besought him, saying: Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.	12 Y sucedió que, estando en una ciudad, se presentó un hombre cubierto de lepra que, al ver a Jesús, se echó rostro en tierra, y le rogó diciendo: «Señor, si quieres, puedes limpiarme».
13 And stretching forth his hand, he touched him, saying: I will. Be thou cleansed. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.	13 El extendió la mano, le tocó, y dijo: «Quiero, queda limpio». Y al instante le desapareció la lepra.
14 And he charged him that he should tell no man, but, Go, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing according as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.	14 Y él le ordenó que no se lo dijera a nadie. Y añadió: «Vete, muéstrate al sacerdote y haz la ofrenda por tu purificación como prescribió Moisés para que les sirva de testimonio».
15 But the fame of him went abroad the more, and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.	15 Su fama se extendía cada vez más y una numerosa multitud afluía para oírle y ser curados de sus enfermedades.
16 And he retired into the desert, and prayed.	16 Pero él se retiraba a los lugares solitarios, donde oraba.
17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he sat teaching, that there were also Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, that were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judea and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was to heal them.	17 Un día que estaba enseñando, había sentados algunos fariseos y doctores de la ley que habían venido de todos los pueblos de Galilea y Judea, y de Jerusalén. El poder del Señor le hacía obrar curaciones.
18 And behold, men brought in a bed a man, who had the palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.	18 En esto, unos hombres trajeron en una camilla a un paralítico y trataban de introducirle, para ponerle delante de él.
19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in, because of the multitude, they went up upon the roof, and let him down through the tiles with his bed into the midst before Jesus.	19 Pero no encontrando por dónde meterle, a causa de la multitud, subieron al terrado, le bajaron con la camilla a través de las tejas, y le pusieron en medio, delante de Jesús.
20 Whose faith when he saw, he said: Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.	20 Viendo Jesús la fe de ellos, dijo: «Hombre, tus pecados te quedan perdonados».
21 And the scribes and Pharisees began to think, saying: Who is this who speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?	21 Los escribas y fariseos empezaron a pensar: «¿Quién es éste, que dice blasfemias? ¿Quién puede perdonar pecados sino sólo Dios?»
22 And when Jesus knew their thoughts, answering, he said to them: What is it you think in your hearts?	22 Conociendo Jesús sus pensamientos, les dijo: «¿Qué estáis pensando en vuestros corazones?
23 Which is easier to say, Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Arise and walk?	23 ¿Qué es más fácil, decir: “Tus pecados te quedan perdonados”, o decir: “Levántate y anda”?
24 But that you may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) I say to thee, Arise, take up thy bed, and go into thy house.	24 Pues para que sepáis que el Hijo del hombre tiene en la tierra poder de perdonar pecados, - dijo al paralítico -: “A ti te digo, levántate, toma tu camilla y vete a tu casa”».
25 And immediately rising up before them, he took up the bed on which he lay; and he went away to his own house, glorifying God.	25 Y al instante, levantándose delante de ellos, tomó la camilla en que yacía y se fue a su casa, glorificando a Dios.
26 And all were astonished; and they glorified God. And they were filled with fear, saying: We have seen wonderful things to day.	26 El asombro se apoderó de todos, y glorificaban a Dios. Y llenos de temor, decían: «Hoy hemos visto cosas increíbles».
27 And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom, and he said to him: Follow me.	27 Después de esto, salió y vio a un publicano llamado Leví, sentado en el despacho de impuestos, y le dijo: «Sígueme».
28 And leaving all things, he rose up and followed him.	28 El, dejándolo todo, se levantó y le siguió.
29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house; and there was a great company of publicans, and of others, that were at table with them.	29 Leví le ofreció en su casa un gran banquete. Había un gran número de publicanos, y de otros que estaban a la mesa con ellos.
30 But the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying to his disciples: Why do you eat and drink with publicans and sinners?	30 Los fariseos y sus escribas murmuraban diciendo a los discípulos: «¿Por qué coméis y bebéis con los publicanos y pecadores?»
31 And Jesus answering, said to them: They that are whole, need not the physician: but they that are sick.	31 Les respondió Jesús: «No necesitan médico los que están sanos, sino los que están mal.
32 I came not to call the just, but sinners to penance.	32 No he venido a llamar a conversión a justos, sino a pecadores».
33 And they said to him: Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees in like manner; but thine eat and drink?	33 Ellos le dijeron: «Los discípulos de Juan ayunan frecuentemente y recitan oraciones, igual que los de los fariseos, pero los tuyos comen y beben».
34 To whom he said: Can you make the children of the bridegroom fast, whilst the bridegroom is with them?	34 Jesús les dijo: «¿Podéis acaso hacer ayunar a los invitados a la boda mientras el novio está con ellos?
35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, then shall they fast in those days.	35 Días vendrán en que les será arrebatado el novio; entonces ayunarán en aquellos días».
36 And he spoke also a similitude to them: That no man putteth a piece from a new garment upon an old garment; otherwise he both rendeth the new, and the piece taken from the new agreeth not with the old.	36 Les dijo también una parábola: «Nadie rompe un vestido nuevo para echar un remiendo a uno viejo; de otro modo, desgarraría el nuevo, y al viejo no le iría el remiendo del nuevo.
37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottle: otherwise the new wine will break the bottles, and it will be spilled, and the bottles will be lost.	37 «Nadie echa tampoco vino nuevo en pellejos viejos; de otro modo, el vino nuevo reventaría los pellejos, el vino se derramaría, y los pellejos se echarían a perder;
38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.	38 sino que el vino nuevo debe echarse en pellejos nuevos.
39 And no man drinking old, hath presently a mind to new: for he saith, The old is better.	39 Nadie, después de beber el vino añejo, quiere del nuevo porque dice: «El añejo es el bueno».
