DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
And the angel that spoke in me came again: and he waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.1 Then the angel who spoke with me returned and awakened me, like a man awakened from his sleep.
And he said to me: What seest thou? And I said: I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, and its lamp upon the top of it: and the seven lights thereof upon it: and seven funnels for the lights that were upon the top thereof.2 "What do you see?" he asked me. "I see a lampstand all of gold, with a bowl at the top," I replied; "on it are seven lamps with their tubes,
And two olive trees over it: one upon the right side of the lamp, and the other upon the left side thereof.3 and beside it are two olive trees, one on the right and the other on the left."
And I answered, and said to the angel that spoke in me, saying: What are these things, my lord?4 Then I said to the angel who spoke with me, "What are these things, my lord?"
And the angel that spoke in me answered, and said to me: Knowest thou not what these things are? And I said: No, my lord.5 And the angel who spoke with me replied, "Do you not know what these things are?" "No, my lord," I answered.
And he answered, and spoke to me, saying: This is the word of the Lord to Zorobabel, saying: Not with an army, nor by might, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.6 Then he said to me, "This is the LORD'S message to Zerubbabel: Not by an army, nor by might, but by my spirit, says the LORD of hosts.
Who art thou, O great mountain, before Zorobabel? thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring out the chief stone, and shall give equal grace to the grace thereof.7 What are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you are but a plain. He shall bring out the capstone amid exclamations of 'Hail, Hail' to it."
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:8 This word of the LORD then came to me:
The hands of Zorobabel have laid the foundations of this house, and his hands shall finish it: and you shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me to you.9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundations of this house, and his hands shall finish it; then you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you.
For who hath despised little days? and they shall rejoice, and shall see the tin plummet in the hand of Zorobabel. These are the seven eyes of the Lord, that run to and fro through the whole earth.10 For even they who were scornful on that day of small beginnings shall rejoice to see the select stone in the hands of Zerubbabel. These seven facets are the eyes of the LORD that range over the whole earth.
And I answered, and said to him: What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick, and upon the left side thereof?11 I then asked him, "What are these two olive trees at each side of the lampstand?"
And I answered again, and said to him: What are the two olive branches, that are by the two golden beaks, in which are the funnels of gold?12 And again I asked, "What are the two olive tufts which freely pour out fresh oil through the two golden channels?"
And he spoke to me, saying: Knowest thou not what these are? And I said: No, my lord.13 "Do you not know what these are?" he said to me. "No, my lord," I answered him.
And he said: These are two sons of oil who stand before the Lord of the whole earth.14 He said, "These are the two anointed who stand by the LORD of the whole earth."
