Hosea 8

DOUAI-RHEIMS	JERUSALEM
1 Let there be a trumpet in thy throat like an eagle upon the house of the Lord: because they have transgressed my covenant, and have violated my law.	1 Embouche la trompette! Comme un aigle, le malheur fond sur la maison de Yahvé. Car ils onttransgressé mon alliance et ont été infidèles à ma Loi.
2 They shall call upon me: O my God, we, Israel, know thee.	2 Ils ont beau me crier: "Mon Dieu, nous te connaissons, nous Israël."
3 Israel hath cast off the thing that is good, the enemy shall pursue him.	3 Israël a rejeté le bien, l'ennemi le poursuivra.
4 They have reigned, but not by me: they have been princes, and I knew not: of their silver, and their gold they have made idols to themselves, that they might perish.	4 Ils ont fait des rois, mais sans mon aveu, ils ont fait des chefs, mais à mon insu. De leur argent et deleur or ils se sont fait des idoles, afin qu'elles soient supprimées.
5 Thy calf, O Samaria, is cast off, my wrath is kindled against them. How long will they be incapable of being cleansed ?	5 Ton veau, Samarie, je le repousse! - ma colère s'est enflammée contre eux: Jusques à quand nepourront-ils recouvrer l'innocence?
6 For itself also is the invention of Israel: a workman made it, and it is no god: for the calf of Samaria shall be turned to spiders' webs.	6 Car il vient d'Israël, c'est un artisan qui l'a fabriqué, lui, il n'est pas Dieu, lui. Oui, le veau de Samarietombera en miettes.
7 For they shall sow wind, and reap a whirlwind, there is no standing stalk in it, the bud shall yield no meal; end if it should yield, strangers shall eat it.	7 Puisqu'ils sèment le vent, ils moissonneront la tempête: tige qui n'a pas d'épi, qui ne donne pas defarine; et s'il en donne, des étrangers l'engloutiront.
8 Israel is swallowed up: now is he become among the nations like an unclean vessel.	8 Israël est englouti. Maintenant ils sont parmi les nations comme un objet dont personne ne veut;
9 For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath given gifts to his lovers.	9 car ils sont montés vers Assur, onagre qui vit à l'écart; Ephraïm s'est acheté des amants.
10 But even though they shall have hired the nations, now will I gather them together: and they shall rest a while from the burden of the king, and the princes.	10 Qu'il s'en achète parmi les nations, maintenant je vais les rassembler et ils souffriront bientôt sous lefardeau du roi des princes.
11 Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin: altars are become to him unto sin.	11 Quand Ephraïm a multiplié les autels, ces autels ne lui ont servi qu'à pécher.
12 I shall write to him my manifold laws, which have been accounted as foreign.	12 Que pour lui j'écrive les mille préceptes de ma loi, on les tient pour une chose étrangère.
13 They shall offer victims, they shall sacrifice flesh, and shall eat it, and the Lord will not receive them: now will he remember their iniquity, and will visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.	13 Les sacrifices qu'ils m'offrent, ils les sacrifient, ils en mangent la viande, mais Yahvé ne les agréepas. Maintenant, il va se souvenir de leur faute et châtier leurs péchés: ils retourneront, eux, en Egypte.
14 And Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and hath built temples: and Juda hath built many fenced cities: and I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the houses thereof.	14 Israël a oublié son auteur et il a bâti des palais; Juda a multiplié les villes fortes. Mais j'enverrai le feudans ses villes, et il en dévorera les citadelles.
