DOUAI-RHEIMSLXX
Have they made thee ruler? be not lifted up: be among them as one of them.1 ηγουμενον σε κατεστησαν μη επαιρου γινου εν αυτοις ως εις εξ αυτων φροντισον αυτων και ουτω καθισον
Have care of them, and so sit down, and when thou hast acquitted thyself of all thy charge, take thy place :2 και πασαν την χρειαν σου ποιησας αναπεσε ινα ευφρανθης δι' αυτους και ευκοσμιας χαριν λαβης στεφανον
That thou mayst rejoice for them, and receive a crown as an ornament of grace, and get the honour of the contribution.3 λαλησον πρεσβυτερε πρεπει γαρ σοι εν ακριβει επιστημη και μη εμποδισης μουσικα
Speak, thou that art elder: for it becometh thee,4 οπου ακροαμα μη εκχεης λαλιαν και ακαιρως μη σοφιζου
To speak the first word with care knowledge, and hinder not music.5 σφραγις ανθρακος επι κοσμω χρυσω συγκριμα μουσικων εν συμποσιω οινου
Where there is no hearing, pour out words, and be not lifted up out season with thy wisdom.6 εν κατασκευασματι χρυσω σφραγις σμαραγδου μελος μουσικων εφ' ηδει οινω
,7A concert of music in a banquet wine is as a carbuncle set in gold.7 λαλησον νεανισκε ει χρεια σου μολις δις εαν επερωτηθης
As a signet of an emerald in a work of gold: so is the melody of music with pleasant and moderate wine.8 κεφαλαιωσον λογον εν ολιγοις πολλα γινου ως γινωσκων και αμα σιωπων
Hear in silence, and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.9 εν μεσω μεγιστανων μη εξισαζου και ετερου λεγοντος μη πολλα αδολεσχει
Young man, scarcely speak in thy own cause.10 προ βροντης κατασπευδει αστραπη και προ αισχυντηρου προελευσεται χαρις
If thou be asked twice, let thy answer be short.11 εν ωρα εξεγειρου και μη ουραγει αποτρεχε εις οικον και μη ραθυμει
In many things be as if thou wert ignorant, and hear in silence and withal seeking.12 εκει παιζε και ποιει τα ενθυμηματα σου και μη αμαρτης λογω υπερηφανω
In the company of great men bake not upon thee: and when the ancients are present, speak not much.13 και επι τουτοις ευλογησον τον ποιησαντα σε και μεθυσκοντα σε απο των αγαθων αυτου
Before a storm goeth lightning: and before shamefacedness goeth favour: and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.14 ο φοβουμενος κυριον εκδεξεται παιδειαν και οι ορθριζοντες ευρησουσιν ευδοκιαν
And at the time of rising be not slack: but be first to run home to thy house, and there withdraw thyself, and there take thy pastime.15 ο ζητων νομον εμπλησθησεται αυτου και ο υποκρινομενος σκανδαλισθησεται εν αυτω
And do what thou hast a mind, but not in sin or proud speech.16 οι φοβουμενοι κυριον ευρησουσιν κριμα και δικαιωματα ως φως εξαψουσιν
And for all these things bless the Lord, that made thee, and that replenisheth thee with all his good things.17 ανθρωπος αμαρτωλος εκκλινει ελεγμον και κατα το θελημα αυτου ευρησει συγκριμα
He that feareth the Lord, will receive his discipline: and they that will seek him early, shall find a blessing.18 ανηρ βουλης ου μη παριδη διανοημα αλλοτριος και υπερηφανος ου καταπτηξει φοβον
He that seeketh the law, shall be filled with it: and he that dealeth deceitfully, shall meet with a stumblingblock therein.19 ανευ βουλης μηθεν ποιησης και εν τω ποιησαι σε μη μεταμελου
They that fear the Lord, shall find just judgment, and shall kindle justice as a light.20 εν οδω αντιπτωματος μη πορευου και μη προσκοψης εν λιθωδεσιν
A sinful man will flee reproof, and will find an excuse according to his will.21 μη πιστευσης εν οδω απροσκοπω
A man of counsel will not neglect understanding, a strange and proud man will not dread fear:22 και απο των τεκνων σου φυλαξαι
Even after he hath done with fear without counsel, he shall be controlled by the things of his own seeking.23 εν παντι εργω πιστευε τη ψυχη σου και γαρ τουτο εστιν τηρησις εντολων
My son, do thou nothing without counsel, and thou shalt not repent when thou hast done.24 ο πιστευων νομω προσεχει εντολαις και ο πεποιθως κυριω ουκ ελαττωθησεται
Go not in the way of ruin, and thou shalt not stumble against the stones; trust not thyself to a rugged may, lest thou set a stumblingblock to thy soul.
And beware of thy own children, and take heed of them of thy household.
In every work of thine regard thy soul in faith: for this is the keeping of the commandments.
He that believeth God, taketh heed to the commandments: and he that trusteth in him, shall fare never the worse.
