Sirach 32

DOUAI-RHEIMS	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Have they made thee ruler? be not lifted up: be among them as one of them.	1 ¿Te toca presidir la mesa? No te envanezcas: compórtate con los demás como uno de ellos y atiéndelos bien antes de sentarte.
2 Have care of them, and so sit down, and when thou hast acquitted thyself of all thy charge, take thy place :	2 Una vez cumplido todo tu oficio, ocupa tu puesto para alegrarte a causa de los comensales y verte coronado porque todo está en orden.
3 That thou mayst rejoice for them, and receive a crown as an ornament of grace, and get the honour of the contribution.	3 Habla, anciano, porque te corresponde hacerlo, pero con discreción y sin interrumpir la música.
4 Speak, thou that art elder: for it becometh thee,	4 Mientras se escucha, no te pongas a charlar ni te hagas el sabio fuera de tiempo
5 To speak the first word with care knowledge, and hinder not music.	5 Sello de rubí en una alhaja de oro es un concierto musical mientras se bebe vino;
6 Where there is no hearing, pour out words, and be not lifted up out season with thy wisdom.	6 sello de esmeralda en un engaste de oro es la música melodiosa sobre la dulzura del vino.
7 ,7A concert of music in a banquet wine is as a carbuncle set in gold.	7 Habla, joven, cuando sea necesario, pero dos veces a lo más, y si te preguntan.
8 As a signet of an emerald in a work of gold: so is the melody of music with pleasant and moderate wine.	8 Habla concisamente, di mucho en pocas palabras: sé como uno que sabe y sin embargo se calla.
9 Hear in silence, and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	9 En medio de los grandes, no pretendas igualarlos, y si otro habla, sé parco en tus palabras.
10 Young man, scarcely speak in thy own cause.	10 El relámpago brilla antes del trueno y el encanto precede al hombre modesto.
11 If thou be asked twice, let thy answer be short.	11 Levántate a tiempo, se seas el último en irte, ve derecho a tu casa, sin entretenerte por el camino.
12 In many things be as if thou wert ignorant, and hear in silence and withal seeking.	12 Diviértete allí como más te guste, pero sin pecar con palabras arrogantes.
13 In the company of great men bake not upon thee: and when the ancients are present, speak not much.	13 Y por todo eso, bendice a tu Creador, que te embriaga con sus bienes.
14 Before a storm goeth lightning: and before shamefacedness goeth favour: and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	14 El que teme al Señor acepta ser instruido y los que lo buscan ardientemente alcanzarán su favor.
15 And at the time of rising be not slack: but be first to run home to thy house, and there withdraw thyself, and there take thy pastime.	15 El que busca la Ley se saciará de ella, pero al que finge observarla le sirve de tropiezo.
16 And do what thou hast a mind, but not in sin or proud speech.	16 Los que temen al Señor descubren lo que es recto y hacen brillar sus preceptos como una lámpara.
17 And for all these things bless the Lord, that made thee, and that replenisheth thee with all his good things.	17 El hombre pecador no tolera ningún reproche y encuentra pretextos para hacer lo que quiere.
18 He that feareth the Lord, will receive his discipline: and they that will seek him early, shall find a blessing.	18 El hombre de consejo no descuida la reflexión; el impío y el arrogante proceden temerariamente.
19 He that seeketh the law, shall be filled with it: and he that dealeth deceitfully, shall meet with a stumblingblock therein.	19 No hagas nada sin el debido consejo y no te arrepentirás de tus acciones.
20 They that fear the Lord, shall find just judgment, and shall kindle justice as a light.	20 No vayas por un camino lleno de obstáculos y no tropezarás contra las piedras.
21 A sinful man will flee reproof, and will find an excuse according to his will.	21 No te fíes del camino despejado
22 A man of counsel will not neglect understanding, a strange and proud man will not dread fear:	22 y cuídate hasta de tus hijos.
23 Even after he hath done with fear without counsel, he shall be controlled by the things of his own seeking.	23 En todo lo que hagas, sé fiel a ti mismo, porque también eso es observar los mandamientos.
24 My son, do thou nothing without counsel, and thou shalt not repent when thou hast done.	24 El que confía en la Ley presta atención a los mandamientos y el que confía en el Señor no sufrirá menoscabo.
25 Go not in the way of ruin, and thou shalt not stumble against the stones; trust not thyself to a rugged may, lest thou set a stumblingblock to thy soul.
26 And beware of thy own children, and take heed of them of thy household.
27 In every work of thine regard thy soul in faith: for this is the keeping of the commandments.
28 He that believeth God, taketh heed to the commandments: and he that trusteth in him, shall fare never the worse.
