Sirach 26

1 Happy is the husband of a good wife: for the number of his years is double.	1 Beato l'uomo della buona moglie; però che lo numero delli loro anni è doppio.
2 A virtuous woman rejoiceth her husband: and shall fulfil the years of his life in peace.	2 La femina forte diletta al suo marito, e compierae li anni della vita sua in pace.
3 A good wife is a good portion, she shall be given in the portion of them that fear God, to a man for his good deeds.	3 Parte buona, la femina buona, nella parte di coloro che temono Iddio sarà data al marito per li fatti buoni.
4 Rich or poor, if his heart is good, his countenance shall be cheerful at all times.	4 Il buon cuore del ricco e del povero si dimostra, però che in ogni tempo il viso loro è allegro.
5 Of three things my heart hath been afraid, and at the fourth my face hath trembled:	5 Da tre cose temè il cuore mio, e nella quarta la faccia mia ebbe paura;
6 The accusation of a city, and the gathering together of the people:	6 l'accusazione ovver prodigione della cittade; il radunamento del popolo;
7 And a false calumny, all are more grievous than death.	7 calunnia falsa; sopra la morte tutte queste cose sono gravi;
8 A jealous woman is the grief and mourning of the heart.	8 dolore di cuore, pianto di femina gelosa.
9 With a jealous woman is a scourge of the tongue which communicateth with all.	9 Nella femina la gelosia è flagello di lingua, comunicante a tutti.
10 As a yoke of oxen that is moved to and fro, so also is a wicked woman: he that hath hold of her, is as he that taketh hold of a scorpion.	10 Si come il giogo de' buoi che si muove, così è la femina rea; chi la tiene è tale, qual è colui che piglia lo scorpione.
11 A drunken woman is a great wrath: and her reproach and shame shall not be hid.	11 La femina ebriosa, ira grande; e villania e sozzura di colei non si ricoprirae.
12 The fornication of a woman shall be known by the haughtiness of her eyes, and by her eyelids.	12 La fornicazione della femina si conoscerae nell' alzare degli occhi, e [nel] le palpebre sue.
13 On a daughter that turneth not away herself, set a strict watch: lest finding an opportunity she abuse herself.	13 Nella figliuola non riguardosa conferma guardia; se trova l'agio, userae male sè.
14 Take heed of the impudence of her eyes, and wonder not if she slight thee.	14 Da ogni irriverente guardatura d'occhi ti guarderai, e non ti maravigliare, se non cura di te.
15 She will open her mouth as a thirsty traveller to the fountain, and will drink of every water near her, and will sit down by every hedge, and open her quiver against every arrow, until she fail.	15 Si come il viandante assetato, apre la bocca e ad ogni acqua prossima [beverae], e contra ad ogni palo sederae, e contro ad ogni saetta aprirae il carcasso infino che vegna meno.
16 The grace of a diligent woman shall delight her husband, and shall fat his bones.	16 La grazia della femina sollecita diletterà al suo marito; e l'ossa sue ingrasseranno.
17 Her discipline is the gift of God.	17 Il senno di colei è dono di Dio.
18 Such is a wise and silent woman, and there is nothing so much worth as a well instructed soul.	18 La femina assennita è tacita; e non è mutamento nella femina savia.
19 A holy and shamefaced woman is grace upon grace.	19 Grazia sopra grazia si è la moglie santa e onesta.
20 And no price is worthy of a continent soul.	20 Nullo peso (d' oro) è degno dell' anima casta.
21 As the sun when it riseth to the world in the high places of God, so is the beauty of a good wife for the ornament of her house.	21 Sì come il sole levandosi nel mondo nelle altissime cose di Dio, così è la bellezza della buona femina nell' ornamento della casa sua.
22 As the lamp shining upon the holy candlestick, so is the beauty of the face in a ripe age.	22 Lucerna risplendente in sul santo candeliere, e bellezza di viso in su la etade ferma.
23 As golden pillars upon bases of silver, so are the firm feet upon the soles of a steady woman.	23 Colonne d'oro sopra basi d' ariento, e li piedi fermi in su le piante delle femine stabili.
24 As everlasting foundations upon a solid rock, so the commandments of God In the heart of a holy woman.	24 Fondamenti eterni sopra salda pietra (sono), e li comandamenti di Dio nel cuore della santa femina.
25 At two things my heart is grieved, and the third bringeth anger upon me:	25 In due cose è contristato il mio cuore, nella terza mi venne iracundia;
26 A man of was fainting through poverty: and a man of sense despised:	26 uomo battagliere che viene meno per fame; e uomo assensato dispregiato;
27 And he that passeth over from justice to sin, God hath prepared such an one for the sword.	27 e colui che da giustizia passa al peccato; Dio apparecchiò lui alla spada.
28 Two sorts of callings have appeared to me hard and dangerous: a merchant is hardly free from negligence: and a huckster shall not be justified from the sins of the lips.	28 Due diversità di genti mi parvono malagevoli e pericolose; malagevolmente si spoglia il mercatante dalla negligenza, e non si giustificherae il taverniere de' peccati della lingua.
