Proverbs 27

1 Boast not for to morrow, for thou knowest not what the day to come may bring forth.	1 Non ti vantar del domani, perchè non sai quel che possa produrre il giorno da venire.
2 Let another praise thee, and not thy own mouth: a stranger, and not thy own lips.	2 Altri ti lodi, non la tua bocca,
3 A stone is heavy, and sand weighty: but the anger of a fool is heavier than them both.	3 un estraneo, non le tue labbra. Grave è la pietra, pesante la sabbia, ma più pesante dell'una e dell'altra è l'ira dello stolto.
4 Anger hath no mercy, nor fury when it breaketh forth: and who can bear the violence of one provoked?	4 L'ira e l'impetuoso furore non han misericordia, ma l'impeto della gelosia chi potrà sostenerlo?
5 Open rebuke is better than hidden love.	5 Meglio riprensione aperta che amore occulto.
6 Better are the wounds of a friend, than the deceitful kisses of an enemy.	6 Son migliori le ferite di chi ama che i falsi baci di chi odia.
7 A soul that is full shall tread upon the honeycomb : and a soul that is hungry shall take even bitter for sweet.	7 Chi è satollo calpesterà il favo di miele, ma per chi ha fame è dolce anche l'amaro.
8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that leaveth his place.	8 Come uccello che va ramingo lungi dal nido, così l'uomo che abbandona il suo posto.
9 Ointment and perfumes rejoice the heart: and the good counsels of a friend are sweet to the soul.	9 Il cuore trova piacere nell'unguento e nei vari odori, l'anima trova conforto nei buoni consigli d'un amico.
10 Thy own friend, and thy father's friend forsake not: and go not into thy brother's house in the day of thy affliction. Better is a neighbour that is near, than a brother afar off.	10 Non abbandonare l'amico tuo, nè l'amico di tuo padre e non andare a casa del tuo fratello nel giorno della tua afflizione. Un vicino al fianco vai più d'un fratello da lontano.
11 Study wisdom, my son, and make my heart joyful, that thou mayst give an answer to him that reproacheth.	11 Applicati alla sapienza, figlio mio, rallegrami il cuore; così potrai rispondere a chi t'insulta.
12 The prudent man seeing evil hideth himself: little ones passing on have suffered losses.	12 L'astuto, visto il pericolo, si nasconde, l'incauto passa avanti e ne paga il fio.
13 Take away his garment that hath been surety for a stranger: and take from him a pledge for strangers.	13 Togli la veste a chi s'è fatto mallevadore per uno straniero, e per i forestieri prendi il pegno a lui.
14 He that blesseth his neighbour with a loud voice, rising in the night, shall be like to him that curseth.	14 Colui che benedice il suo prossimo ad alta voce di buon mattino, sarà simile a chi lo maledice.
15 Roofs dropping through in a cold day, and a contentious woman are alike.	15 Lo sgocciolio del tetto nella fredda stagione e la donna litigiosa si somigliano.
16 He that retaineth her, is as he that would hold the wind, and shall call in the oil of his right hand.	16 Chi la ritiene è come colui che vuol tenere il vento e stringer l'olio nella sua destra.
17 Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.	17 Il ferro si affila col ferro e l'uomo acuisce l'ingegno del suo amico.
18 He that keepeth the fig tree, shall eat the fruit thereof: and he that is the keeper of his master, shall be glorified.	18 Chi ha cura del fico ne mangerà i frutti, e chi custodisce il suo padrone sarà onorato.
19 As the faces of them that look therein, shine in the water, so-the hearts of men are laid open to the wise.	19 Come nelle acque si riflettono i visi di chi vi si specchia, così i cuori degli uomini son manifesti ai sapienti.
20 Hell and destruction are never filled: so the eyes of men are never satisfied.	20 L'inferno e la morte non son mai pieni, così gli occhi degli uomini sono insaziabili.
21 As silver is tried in the fining-pot and gold in the furnace: so a man is tried by the mouth of him that praiseth. The heart of the wicked seeketh after evils, but the righteous heart seeketh after knowledge.	21 Come si prova al crogiolo l'argento e al fornello l'oro, così vien provato l'uomo nella bocca di chi lo loda. Il cuore dell'iniquo cerca il male, il cuore diritto cerca la scienza.
22 Though thou shouldst bray a fool in the mortar, as when a pestle striketh upon sodden barley, his folly would not be taken from him.	22 Anche se pestassi lo stolto nel mortaio, come si fa dell'orzo, col pestello, non gli leveresti la sua stoltezza.
23 Be diligent to know the countenance of thy cattle, and consider thy own flocks :	23 Bada bene allo stato del tuo gregge, ed abbi cura delle tue mandre,
24 For thou shalt not always have power: but a crown shall be given to generation and generation.	24 perchè non ne avrai sempre il possesso: anche la corona è data di generazione in generazione.
25 The meadows are open, and the green herbs have appeared, and the hay is gathered out of the mountains.	25 I prati sono aperti, spuntano le verdi erbette, è raccolto il fieno dei monti;
26 Lambs are for thy clothing: and kids for the price of the field.	26 e gli agnelli ti forniscon le vesti, i capretti ti pagano il campo;
27 Let the milk of the goats be enough for thy food, and for the necessities of thy house, and for maintenance for thy handmaids.	27 il latte delle capre può bastare a nutrirti, al necessario della tua famiglia, al mantenimento delle tue serve.
