1 If it had not been that the Lord was with us, let Israel now say:	1 - Cantico de' gradini. Quando il Signore ricondusse gli esuli di Sion, eravamo come trasognati.
2 If it had not been that the Lord was with us, When men rose up against us	2 Allora fu ripiena [d'un sorriso] di gioia la nostra boccae la lingua nostra di giubilo. Allora si diceva tra le genti:«Grandi cose ha fatto il Signore per essi!».
3 perhaps they had swallowed us up alive. When their fury was enkindled against us,	3 [Sì], grandi cose ha fatto il Signore per noi; noi siamo in esultanza.
4 perhaps the waters had swallowed us up.	4 Riconduci, o Signore, i nostri esulicome un torrente nel mezzogiorno.
5 Our soul hath passed through a torrent: perhaps our soul had passed through a water insupportable.	5 Quei che seminan tra le lacrime, nel giubilo mieteranno.
6 Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us to be a prey to their teeth.	6 Andavano, andavano e piangevano, spargendo il loro seme: vengono ora, vengono nel giubilo, portando i loro covoni.
7 Our soul hath been delivered as a sparrow out of the snare of the followers. The snare is broken, and we are delivered.
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
