1 And there happened to be there a man of Belial, whose name was Seba, the son of Bochri, a man of Jemini: and he sounded the trumpet, and said: We have no part in David, nor inheritance in the son of Isai: return to thy dwellings, O Israel.	1 C'era là per caso un uomo buono a nulla chiamato Sheba figlio di Bichri, il Beniaminita. Costui fece suonare la tromba e isse: «Non abbiamo una parte con David, nessuna eredità noi abbiamo con il figlio di Jesse! Ciascuno alla sua tenda, o Israele!»
2 And all Israel departed from David, and followed Seba the son of Bochri: but the men of Juda stuck to their king from the Jordan unto Jerusalem.	2 Tutti gli uomini di Israele si staccarono da David per seguire Sheba figlio di Bichri: ma gli uomini di Giuda rimasero attaccati al loro re dal Giordano a Gerusalemme.
3 And when the king was come into his house at Jerusalem, he took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, allowing them provisions: and he went not in unto them, but they were shut up unto the day of their death living in widowhood.	3 David venne alla reggia a Gerusalemme. Il re prese le dieci concubine che aveva lasciato a custodire la reggia, Je mise in una casa di sorveglianza e provvide al loro mantenimento. Tuttavia da esse non entrò più ed esse divennero delle recluse fino al giorno della loro morte, vedove a vita.
4 And the king said to Amasa: Assemble to me all the men of Juda against the third day, and be thou here present.	4 Il re disse poi ad Amasa: «Fammi l’appello degli uomini di Giuda in tre giorni, poi trovati qua».
5 So Amasa went to assemble the men of Juda, but he tarried beyond the set time which the king had appointed him.	5 Amasa partì a fare l’appello di Giuda, ma rimase assente oltre il termine che il re gli aveva stabilito.
6 And David said to Abisai: Now will Seba the son of Bochri do us more harm than did Absalom: take thou therefore the servants of thy lord, and pursue after him, lest he find fenced cities, and escape us.	6 Allora David disse ad Abishai: «Ora Sheba, figlio di Bichri, è più pericoloso per noi di Assalonne: prendi dunque i servitori del tuo signore e inseguilo perché non abbia ad accaparrarsi città fortificate: questo ci sarebbe tanto fumo negli occhi».
7 So Joab's men went out with him, and the Cerethi and the Phelethi: and all the valiant men went out of Jerusalem to pursue after Seba the son of Bochri.	7 Uscirono dunque al seguito di lui gli uomini di Joab, i Cretei e i Pletei e tutti i prodi: uscirono di Gerusalemme per inseguire Bheba figlio di Bichri.
8 And when they were at the great stone which is in Gabaon, Amasa coming met them. And Joab had on a close coat of equal length with his habit, and over it was girded with a sword hanging down to his flank, in a scabbard, made in such manner as to come out with the least motion and strike.	8 Essi si trovavano presso la grossa pietra che è vicino a Gabaon, quando Amasa li raggiunse in testa alla truppa. Joab indossava la casacca militare, sopra la quale era cinto di spada, stretta sul fianco nella guaina: essa ne uscì e cadde.
9 And Joab said to Amasa: God save thee, my brother. And he took Amasa by the chin with his right hand to kiss him.	9 Disse Joab ad Amasa: «Stai bene, fratello mio?» La mano destra di Joab prendeva la barba di Amasa per baciarlo.
10 But Amasa did not take notice of the sword, which Joab had, and he struck him in the side, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and gave him not a second wound, and he died. And Joab, and Abisai his brother pursued after Seba the son of Bochri.	10 Amasa non si guardò dalla spada che era nell’altra mano di Joab e questi lo colpì con essa al basso ventre. Le viscere gli si sparsero al suolo e quegli, senza bisogno d’un secondo colpo, morì. Joab con Abishai suo fratello partì all’inseguimento di Sheba figlio di Bichri.
11 In the mean time some men of Joab's company stopping at the dead body of Amasa, said: Behold he that would have been in Joab's stead the companion of David.	11 Uno dei giovani di Joab si fermò presso Amasa e disse: «Chi vuol bene a Joab e chi sta per David? Segua Joab!»
12 And Amasa imbrued with blood, lay in the midst of the way. A certain man saw this that all the people stood still to look upon him, so he removed Amasa out of the highway into the field, and covered him with a garment, that they who passed might not stop on his account.	12 Siccome però Amasa si contorceva nel sangue proprio in mezzo al sentiero, l’uomo si accorse che tutta la gente si fermava e allora rotolò Amasa dal sentiero in un campo e gli buttò sopra un indumento, perché vedeva che chiunque giungeva presso di lui si fermava.
13 And when he was removed out of the way, all the people went on following Joab to pursue after Seba the son of Bochri.	13 Quando lo ebbe rimosso dal sentiero, ognuno continuava dietro a Joab all’inseguimento di Sheba figlio di Bichri.
14 Now he had passed through all the tribes of Israel unto Abela and Bethmaacha: and all the chosen men were gathered together unto him.	14 Costui passò per tutte le tribù di Israele, ma non gli fecero caso; venne allora ad AbelBet-Maacha, seguito da tutti i Bichriti.
15 And they came, and besieged him in Abela, and in Bethmaacha, and they cast up works round the city, and the city was besieged: and all the people that were with Joab, laboured to throw down the walls.	15 Gli uomini di Joab giunsero e lo assediarono in Abel-Bet-Maacha: elevarono un terrapieno addosso alla città e tutta la gente che era con Joab si dava a far guasti per rovesciare il muro. Allora venne a porsi sull’antemurale
16 And a wise woman cried out from the city: Hear, hear, and say to Joab: Come near hither, and I will speak with thee.	16 una donna saggia e gridò dalla città: «Udite! Udite! Dite a Joab: “Accostati fin qui perché voglio parlarti”».
17 And when he was come near to her, she said to him: Art thou Joab? And he answered: I am. And she spoke thus to him: Hear the words of thy handmaid. He answered: I do hear.	17 Come si fu avvicinato, la donna gli disse: «Tu sei Joab?» Joab rispose: «Sono io». Essa gli disse: «Ascolta le parole della tua schiava». Rispose: «Ascolto».
18 And she again said: A saying was used in the old proverb: They that inquire, let them inquire in Abela: and so they made an end.	18 Quella disse: «Erano soliti dire una volta: “Chiedete, chiedete in Abel e in Dan se sono venute meno
19 Am not I she that answer truth in Israel, and thou seekest to destroy the city, and to overthrow a mother in Israel? Why wilt thou throw down the inheritance of the Lord?	19 le usanze consacrate dai fedeli di Israele!”. Tu vorresti far morire una città che è una metropoli in Israele? Perché vorresti annientare un possesso di Jahvè?»
20 And Joab answering said: God forbid, God forbid that I should, I do not throw down, nor destroy.	20 Rispose Joab e disse: «Lungi, lungi da me l’idea d’annientare, di rovinare!
21 The matter is not so, but a man of mount Ephraim, Seba the son of Bochri by name, hath lifted up his hand against king David: deliver him only, and we will depart from the city. And the woman said to Joab: Behold his head shall be thrown to thee from the wall.	21 L’affare non è così: un uomo della montagna di Efraim, chiamato Sheba figlio di Bichri, ha levato la mano contro il re, contro David: consegnatemi lui, lui solo, e io me ne andrò dalla città». Allora la donna disse a Joab: «Ecco, ti verrà subito gettata la sua testa dal muro».
22 So she went to all the people, and spoke to them wisely: and they cut off the head of Seba the son of Bochri, and cast it out to Joab. And he sounded the trumpet, and they departed from the city, every one to their home: and Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.	22 La donna si rivolse a tutto il popolo con la sua saggezza: tagliarono la testa di Sheba figlio di Bichri e la gettarono a Joab. Questi fece suonare la tromba e si allontanarono dalla città, ciascuno alla sua tenda. Joab tornò a Gerusalemme dal re.
23 So Joab was over all the army of Israel: and Banaias the son of Joiada was over the Cerethites and Phelethites,	23 Joab era a capo di tutto l’esercito. Benaia figlio di Joiada aveva il comando dei Cretei e dei Pletei.
24 But Aduram over the tributes: and Josaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder.	24 Adoram era preposto ai lavori. Joshafat figlio di Akhilud era araldo.
25 And Siva was scribe: and Sadoc and Abiathar, priests.	25 Shisha era scriba. Zadok ed Ebiatar erano sacerdoti.
26 And Ira the Jairite was the priest of David.	26 Anche Ira lo Jairita era consigliere di David.
