Prima lettera di Pietro 4

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 POI dunque che Cristo ha sofferto per noi in carne, ancor voi armatevi del medesimo pensiero, che chi ha sofferto in carne, ha cessato dal peccato;	1 As Christ has undergone bodily suffering, you too should arm yourselves with the same conviction, thatanyone who has undergone bodily suffering has broken with sin,
2 per vivere il tempo che resta in carne, non più alle concupiscenze degli uomini, ma alla volontà di Dio.	2 because for the rest of life on earth that person is ruled not by human passions but only by the wil ofGod.
3 Perciocchè il tempo passato della vita ci dev’esser bastato per avere operata la volontà de’ Gentili, essendo camminati in lascivie, cupidità, ebbrezze, conviti, bevimenti, e nefande idolatrie	3 You spent quite long enough in the past living the sort of life that gentiles choose to live, behaving in adebauched way, giving way to your passions, drinking to excess, having wild parties and drunken orgies andsacrilegiously worshipping false gods.
4 Laonde ora essi stupiscono, come di cosa strana, che voi non concorrete ad una medesima strabocchevol dissoluzione; e ne bestemmiano.	4 So people are taken aback that you no longer hurry off with them to join this flood which is rushingdown to ruin, and then abuse you for it.
5 I quali renderanno ragione a colui che è presto a giudicare i vivi ed i morti.	5 They wil have to answer for it before the judge who is to judge the living and the dead.
6 Poichè per questo è stato predicato l’evangelo ancora a’ morti, acciocchè fossero giudicati in carne, secondo gli uomini; ma vivessero in ispirito, secondo Iddio	6 And this was why the gospel was brought to the dead as wel , so that, though in their bodies they hadundergone the judgement that faces al humanity, in their spirit they might enjoy the life of God.
7 Or la fine d’ogni cosa è vicina; siate adunque temperati, e vigilanti alle orazioni.	7 The end of all things is near, so keep your minds calm and sober for prayer.
8 Avendo, innanzi ad ogni cosa, la carità intensa gli uni inverso gli altri; perciocchè la carità coprirà moltitudine di peccati.	8 Above al preserve an intense love for each other, since love covers over many a sin.
9 Siate volonterosi albergatori gli uni degli altri, senza mormorii.	9 Welcome each other into your houses without grumbling.
10 Secondo che ciascuno ha ricevuto alcun dono, amministratelo gli uni agli altri, come buoni dispensatori della svariata grazia di Dio.	10 Each one of you has received a special grace, so, like good stewards responsible for all these variedgraces of God, put it at the service of others.
11 Se alcuno parla, parli come gli oracoli di Dio; se alcuno ministra, faccialo come per lo potere che Iddio fornisce; acciocchè in ogni cosa sia glorificato Iddio per Gesù Cristo, a cui appartiene la gloria e l’imperio, ne’ secoli de’ secoli. Amen	11 If anyone is a speaker, let it be as the words of God, if anyone serves, let it be as in strength grantedby God; so that in everything God may receive the glory, through Jesus Christ, since to him alone belong alglory and power for ever and ever. Amen.
12 Diletti, non vi smarrite, come se vi avvenisse cosa strana, d’esser messi al cimento; il che si fa per provarvi.	12 My dear friends, do not be taken aback at the testing by fire which is taking place among you, asthough something strange were happening to you;
13 Anzi, in quanto partecipate le sofferenze di Cristo, rallegratevi; acciocchè ancora nell’apparizione della sua gloria voi vi rallegriate giubilando.	13 but in so far as you share in the sufferings of Christ, be glad, so that you may enjoy a much greatergladness when his glory is revealed.
14 Se siete vituperati per lo nome di Cristo, beati voi; poichè lo Spirito di gloria e di Dio, riposa sopra voi; ben è egli, quant’è a loro, bestemmiato; ma, quant’è a voi, è glorificato.	14 If you are insulted for bearing Christ's name, blessed are you, for on you rests the Spirit of God, theSpirit of glory.
15 Perciocchè, niun di voi patisca come micidiale, o ladro, o malfattore, o curante le cose che non gli appartengono.	15 None of you should ever deserve to suffer for being a murderer, a thief, a criminal or an informer;
16 Ma, se patisce come Cristiano, non si vergogni; anzi glorifichi Iddio in questa parte.	16 but if any one of you should suffer for being a Christian, then there must be no shame but thanksgiving to God for bearing this name.
17 Perciocchè, egli è il tempo che il giudicio cominci dalla casa di Dio; e se comincia prima da noi, qual sarà la fine di coloro che non ubbidiscono all’evangelo di Dio?	17 The time has come for the judgement to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, whatwil be the end for those who refuse to believe God's gospel?
18 E se il giusto è appena salvato, dove comparirà l’empio e il peccatore?	18 If it is hard for the upright to be saved, what wil happen to the wicked and to sinners?
19 Perciò quelli ancora, che patiscono secondo la volontà di Dio, raccomandingli le anime loro, come al fedele Creatore, con far bene	19 So even those whom God allows to suffer should commit themselves to a Creator who is trustworthy,and go on doing good.
