| 2 Perciocchè gli uomini saranno amatori di loro stessi, avari, vanagloriosi, superbi, bestemmiatori, disubbidienti a padri e madri, ingrati, scellerati; | 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, |
| 3 senza affezion naturale, mancatori di fede, calunniatori, incontinenti, spietati, senza amore inverso i buoni; | 3 inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, fierce, haters of good, |
| 4 traditori, temerari, gonfi, amatori della voluttà anzi che di Dio; | 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, |
| 5 avendo apparenza di pietà, ma avendo rinnegata la forza d’essa; anche tali schiva. | 5 holding the form of religion but denying the power of it. Avoid such people. |
| 6 Perciocchè del numero di costoro son quelli che sottentrano nelle case, e cattivano donnicciuole cariche di peccati, agitate da varie cupidità; | 6 For among them are those who make their way into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and swayed by various impulses, |
| 7 le quali sempre imparano, giammai non possono pervenire alla conoscenza della verità. | 7 who will listen to anybody and can never arrive at a knowledge of the truth. |
| 8 Ora, come Ianne e Iambre contrastarono a Mosè, così ancora costoro contrastano alla verità; uomini corrotti della mente, riprovati intorno alla fede. | 8 As Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of corrupt mind and counterfeit faith; |
| 9 Ma non procederanno più oltre; perciocchè la loro stoltizia sarà manifesta a tutti, siccome ancora fu quella di coloro | 9 but they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men. |
| 10 ORA, quant’è a te, tu hai ben compresa la mia dottrina, il mio procedere, le mie intenzioni, la mia fede, la mia pazienza, la mia carità, la mia sofferenza; | 10 Now you have observed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, |
| 11 le mie persecuzioni, le mie afflizioni, quali mi sono avvenute in Antiochia, in Iconio, in Listri; tu sai quali persecuzioni io ho sostenute; e pure il Signore mi ha liberato, da tutte. | 11 my persecutions, my sufferings, what befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra, what persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. |
| 12 Ora, tutti quelli ancora, che voglion vivere piamente in Cristo Gesù, saranno perseguitati. | 12 Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, |
| 13 Ma gli uomini malvagi ed ingannatori, procederanno in peggio, seducendo, ed essendo sedotti. | 13 while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. |
| 14 Ma tu, persevera nelle cose che hai imparate, e delle quali sei stato accertato, sapendo da chi tu le hai imparate; | 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it |
| 15 e che da fanciullo tu hai conoscenza delle sacre lettere, le quali ti possono render savio a salute, per la fede che è in Cristo Gesù. | 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. |
| 16 Tutta la scrittura è divinamente inspirata, ed utile ad insegnare, ad arguire, a correggere, ad ammaestrare in giustizia; | 16 All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, |
| 17 acciocchè l’uomo di Dio sia compiuto, appieno fornito per ogni buona opera | 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. |
