| 1 E QUANDO furon vicino a Gerusalemme, e furon venuti in Betfage, presso al monte degli Ulivi, Gesù mandò due discepoli, | 1 And when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, |
| 2 dicendo loro: Andate nel castello che è dirimpetto a voi; e subito troverete un’asina legata, ed un puledro con essa; scioglieteli, e menatemeli. | 2 saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. |
| 3 E se alcuno vi dice nulla, dite che il Signore ne ha bisogno; e subito li manderà. | 3 If any one says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord has need of them,' and he will send them immediately." |
| 4 Or tutto ciò fu fatto, acciocchè si adempiesse ciò che fu detto dal profeta, dicendo: | 4 This took place to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet, saying, |
| 5 Dite alla figliuola di Sion: Ecco, il tuo Re viene a te, mansueto, e montato sopra un asino, ed un puledro, figlio di un’asina che porta il giogo. | 5 "Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on an ass, and on a colt, the foal of an ass." |
| 6 E i discepoli andarono, e fecero come Gesù avea loro imposto. | 6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; |
| 7 E menaron l’asina, ed il puledro; e misero sopra quelli le lor veste, e Gesù montò sopra il puledro. | 7 they brought the ass and the colt, and put their garments on them, and he sat thereon. |
| 8 Ed una grandissima moltitudine distese le sue veste nella via; ed altri tagliavano de’ rami dagli alberi, e li distendevano nella via. | 8 Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. |
| 9 E le turbe che andavano davanti, e che venivano dietro gridavano, dicendo: Osanna al Figliuolo di Davide! Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore! Osanna ne’ luoghi altissimi! | 9 And the crowds that went before him and that followed him shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" |
| 10 Ed essendo egli entrato in Gerusalemme, tutta la città fu commossa, dicendo: | 10 And when he entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, "Who is this?" |
| 11 Chi è costui? E le turbe dicevano: Costui è Gesù, il Profeta che è da Nazaret di Galilea | 11 And the crowds said, "This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee." |
| 12 E GESÙ entrò nel tempio di Dio, e cacciò fuori tutti coloro che vendevano, e comperavano nel tempio; e riversò le tavole de’ cambiatori, e le sedie di coloro che vendevano i colombi. | 12 And Jesus entered the temple of God and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. |
| 13 E disse loro: Egli è scritto: La mia Casa sarà chiamata Casa d’orazione, ma voi ne avete fatta una spelonca di ladroni. | 13 He said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer'; but you make it a den of robbers." |
| 14 Allora vennero a lui de’ ciechi, e degli zoppi, nel tempio, ed egli li sanò. | 14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. |
| 15 Ma i principali sacerdoti, e gli Scribi, vedute le maraviglie ch’egli avea fatte, ed i fanciulli che gridavano nel tempio: Osanna al Figliuolo di Davide! furono indegnati. | 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant; |
| 16 E gli dissero: Odi tu ciò che costoro dicono? E Gesù disse loro: Sì. Non avete voi mai letto: Dalla bocca de’ fanciulli, e di que’ che poppano, tu hai stabilita la tua lode? | 16 and they said to him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes; have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast brought perfect praise'?" |
| 17 E lasciatili, uscì della città verso Betania, e quivi albergò | 17 And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there. |
| 18 E LA mattina ritornando nella città, ebbe fame. | 18 In the morning, as he was returning to the city, he was hungry. |
| 19 E, vedendo un fico in su la strada, andò ad esso, ma non vi trovò nulla, se non delle foglie. Ed egli gli disse: Giammai più in eterno non nasca frutto alcuno da te. E subito il fico si seccò. | 19 And seeing a fig tree by the wayside he went to it, and found nothing on it but leaves only. And he said to it, "May no fruit ever come from you again!" And the fig tree withered at once. |
| 20 E i discepoli, veduto ciò, si maravigliarono, dicendo: Come si è di subito seccato il fico? | 20 When the disciples saw it they marveled, saying, "How did the fig tree wither at once?" |
| 21 E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Io vi dico in verità, che, se avete fede e non dubitate, non sol farete la cosa del fico, ma ancora se dite a questo monte: Togliti di là, e gettati nel mare, sarà fatto. | 21 And Jesus answered them, "Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and never doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will be done. |
| 22 E tutte le cose, le quali con orazione richiederete, credendo, voi le riceverete | 22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith." |
| 23 POI, quando egli fu venuto nel tempio, i principali sacerdoti, e gli anziani del popolo, si accostarono a lui mentre egli insegnava, dicendo: Di quale autorità fai tu queste cose? e chi ti ha data cotesta autorità? | 23 And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?" |
| 24 E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Ancora io vi domanderò una cosa, la qual se voi mi dite io altresì vi dirò di quale autorità fo queste cose. | 24 Jesus answered them, "I also will ask you a question; and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things. |
| 25 Il battesimo di Giovanni onde era egli? dal cielo o dagli uomini? Ed essi ragionavan tra loro, dicendo: Se diciamo che era dal cielo, egli ci dirà: Perchè dunque non gli credeste? | 25 The baptism of John, whence was it? From heaven or from men?" And they argued with one another, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' |
| 26 Se altresì diciamo che era dagli uomini noi temiamo la moltitudine perciocchè tutti tengono Giovanni per profeta. | 26 But if we say, 'From men,' we are afraid of the multitude; for all hold that John was a prophet." |
| 27 E risposero a Gesù, e dissero: Noi non sappiamo. Egli altresì disse loro: Ed io ancora non vi dirò di quale autorità io fo queste cose | 27 So they answered Jesus, "We do not know." And he said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. |
| 28 ORA, che vi par egli? Un uomo avea due figliuoli; e, venuto al primo, disse: Figliuolo, va’, lavora oggi nella mia vigna. | 28 "What do you think? A man had two sons; and he went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work in the vineyard today.' |
| 29 Ma egli, rispondendo, disse: Non voglio, pur nondimeno, poi appresso, ravvedutosi, vi andò. | 29 And he answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he repented and went. |
| 30 Poi, venuto al secondo, gli disse il simigliante. Ed egli, rispondendo, disse: Sì, lo farò, signore, e pur non vi andò. | 30 And he went to the second and said the same; and he answered, 'I go, sir,' but did not go. |
| 31 Qual de’ due fece il voler del padre? Essi gli dissero: Il primo. Gesù disse loro: Io vi dico in verità, che i pubblicani, e le meretrici vanno innanzi a voi nel regno de’ cieli. | 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. |
| 32 Perciocchè Giovanni è venuto a voi per la via della giustizia, e voi non gli avete creduto; ma i pubblicani e le meretrici gli hanno creduto; e pur voi, veduto ciò, non vi siete poi appresso ravveduti, per credergli | 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the harlots believed him; and even when you saw it, you did not afterward repent and believe him. |
| 33 UDITE un’altra parabola: Vi era un padre di famiglia, il quale piantò una vigna e le fece una siepe attorno, e cavò in essa un luogo da calcar la vendemmia, e vi edificò una torre; poi allogò quella a certi lavoratori, e se ne andò in viaggio. | 33 "Hear another parable. There was a householder who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country. |
| 34 Ora, quando venne il tempo de’ frutti, egli mandò i suoi servitori a’ lavoratori, per ricevere i frutti di quella. | 34 When the season of fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to get his fruit; |
| 35 Ma i lavoratori, presi que’ servitori, ne batterono l’uno, e ne uccisero l’altro, e ne lapidarono l’altro. | 35 and the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. |
| 36 Da capo egli mandò degli altri servitori, in maggior numero che i primi; e quelli fecero loro il simigliante. | 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first; and they did the same to them. |
| 37 Ultimamente, egli mandò loro il suo figliuolo, dicendo: Avran riverenza al mio figliuolo. | 37 Afterward he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.' |
| 38 Ma i lavoratori, veduto il figliuolo, disser fra loro: Costui è l’erede; venite, uccidiamolo, ed occupiamo la sua eredità. | 38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.' |
| 39 E presolo, lo cacciarono fuor della vigna, e l’uccisero. | 39 And they took him and cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. |
| 40 Quando adunque il padron della vigna sarà venuto, che farà egli a que’ lavoratori? | 40 When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" |
| 41 Essi gli dissero: Egli li farà perir malamente, quegli scellerati, ed allogherà la vigna ad altri lavoratori, i quali gli renderanno i frutti a’ suoi tempi. | 41 They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons." |
| 42 Gesù disse loro: Non avete voi mai letto nelle Scritture: La pietra che gli edificatori hanno riprovata è divenuta il capo del cantone; ciò è stato fatto dal Signore, ed è cosa maravigliosa agli occhi nostri? | 42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures: 'The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? |
| 43 Perciò, io vi dico, che il regno di Dio vi sarà tolto, e sarà dato ad una gente che farà i frutti di esso. | 43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it. |
| 44 E chi caderà sopra questa pietra sarà tritato, ed ella fiaccherà colui sopra cui ella caderà. | 44 And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but when it falls on any one, it will crush him." |
| 45 E i principali sacerdoti, e i Farisei, udite le sue parabole, si avvidero ch’egli diceva di loro. | 45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them. |
| 46 E cercavano di pigliarlo; ma temettero le turbe, perciocchè quelle lo tenevano per profeta | 46 But when they tried to arrest him, they feared the multitudes, because they held him to be a prophet. |
