| 1 Radunati ora a schiere, figliuola di scherani; l’assedio è stato posto contro a noi; il rettore d’Israele è stato percosso con una bacchetta in su la guancia. | 1 Now you are walled about with a wall; siege is laid against us; with a rod they strike upon the cheek the ruler of Israel. |
| 2 MA di te, o Betlehem Efrata, benchè tu sii il minimo de’ migliai di Giuda, mi uscirà colui che sarà il Signore in Israele; le cui uscite sono ab antico, da’ tempi eterni. | 2 But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days. |
| 3 Perciò, egli li darà in man de’ lor nemici, fino al tempo che colei che ha da partorire, abbia partorito; allora il rimanente dei suoi fratelli ritornerà a’ figliuoli d’Israele. | 3 Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in travail has brought forth; then the rest of his brethren shall return to the people of Israel. |
| 4 E colui starà ritto, e li pasturerà nella forza del Signore, nell’altezza del Nome del Signore Iddio suo; ed essi giaceranno; perciocchè ora egli si farà grande fino agli estremi termini della terra. | 4 And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth. |
| 5 E costui sarà la pace; quando l’Assiro entrerà nel nostro paese, e quando metterà il piè ne’ nostri palazzi, noi ordineremo contro a lui sette pastori, e otto principi d’infra il comun degli uomini. | 5 And this shall be peace, when the Assyrian comes into our land and treads upon our soil, that we will raise against him seven shepherds and eight princes of men; |
| 6 Ed essi deserteranno il paese degli Assiri con la spada, e il paese di Nimrod con le sue proprie coltella; ed egli ci riscoterà dagli Assiri, quando saranno entrati nel nostro paese, ed avranno messo il piè ne’ nostri confini | 6 they shall rule the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod with the drawn sword; and they shall deliver us from the Assyrian when he comes into our land and treads within our border. |
| 7 E il rimanente di Giacobbe sarà, in mezzo di molti popoli, come la rugiada mandata dal Signore, come pioggia minuta sopra l’erba, che non aspetta l’uomo, e non ispera ne’ figliuoli degli uomini. | 7 Then the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many peoples like dew from the LORD, like showers upon the grass, which tarry not for men nor wait for the sons of men. |
| 8 Il rimanente di Giacobbe sarà eziandio fra le genti, in mezzo di molti popoli, come un leone fra il bestiame delle selve; come un leoncello fra le mandre delle pecore; il quale, se passa in alcun luogo, calpesta e lacera; e non vi è alcuno che possa riscuotere. | 8 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among the flocks of sheep, which, when it goes through, treads down and tears in pieces, and there is none to deliver. |
| 9 La tua mano sarà alzata sopra i tuoi avversari, e tutti i tuoi nemici saranno sterminati. | 9 Your hand shall be lifted up over your adversaries, and all your enemies shall be cut off. |
| 10 Ed avverrà in quel giorno, dice il Signore, che io distruggerò i tuoi cavalli del mezzo di te, e farò perire i tuoi carri; | 10 And in that day, says the LORD, I will cut off your horses from among you and will destroy your chariots; |
| 11 e distruggerò le città del tuo paese, e manderò in ruina tutte le tue fortezze. | 11 and I will cut off the cities of your land and throw down all your strongholds; |
| 12 Sterminerò eziandio di man tua gl’incantesimi, e tu non avrai più alcuni pronosticatori. | 12 and I will cut off sorceries from your hand, and you shall have no more soothsayers; |
| 13 E distruggerò del mezzo di te le tue sculture, e le tue statue; e tu non adorerai più l’opera delle tue mani. | 13 and I will cut off your images and your pillars from among you, and you shall bow down no more to the work of your hands; |
| 14 E stirperò i tuoi boschi del mezzo di te, e disfarò le tue città. | 14 and I will root out your Asherim from among you and destroy your cities. |
| 15 E farò vendetta, con ira, e con cruccio, sopra le genti che non avranno ascoltato | 15 And in anger and wrath I will execute vengeance upon the nations that did not obey. |
