| 1 ECCO, la mano del Signore non è raccorciata, per non poter salvare; e la sua orecchia non è aggravata, per non potere udire. | 1 Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; |
| 2 Ma le vostre iniquità sono quelle che han fatta separazione tra voi e l’Iddio vostro; e i vostri peccati han fatta nasconder la sua faccia da voi, per non ascoltare. | 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you so that he does not hear. |
| 3 Conciossiachè le vostre mani sieno contaminate di sangue, e le vostre dita d’iniquità; e le vostre labbra hanno proferita falsità, la vostra lingua ha ragionata perversità. | 3 For your hands are defiled with blood and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue mutters wickedness. |
| 4 Non vi è niuno che gridi per la giustizia, nè che litighi per la verità; si confidano in cose di nulla, e parlano falsità; concepiscono perversità, e partoriscono iniquità. | 4 No one enters suit justly, no one goes to law honestly; they rely on empty pleas, they speak lies, they conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity. |
| 5 Fanno spicciare uova d’aspido, e tessono tele di ragnoli; chi avrà mangiato delle loro uova ne morrà; e schiacciandosene alcuno, ne scoppierà una vipera. | 5 They hatch adders' eggs, they weave the spider's web; he who eats their eggs dies, and from one which is crushed a viper is hatched. |
| 6 Le lor tele non saranno da vestimenti, ed eglino stessi non si copriranno del lor lavoro; il lor lavoro è lavoro d’iniquità, e vi sono opere di violenza nelle lor mani. | 6 Their webs will not serve as clothing; men will not cover themselves with what they make. Their works are works of iniquity, and deeds of violence are in their hands. |
| 7 I lor piedi corrono al male, e si affrettano per andare a spandere il sangue innocente; i lor pensieri son pensieri d’iniquità; nelle loro strade vi è guastamento e ruina. | 7 Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity, desolation and destruction are in their highways. |
| 8 Non conoscono il cammino della pace, e nelle lor vie non vi è alcuna dirittura; si hanno distorti i lor sentieri; chiunque cammina per essi non sa che cosa sia pace | 8 The way of peace they know not, and there is no justice in their paths; they have made their roads crooked, no one who goes in them knows peace. |
| 9 Perciò, il giudicio si è allontanato da noi, e la giustizia non ci ha aggiunti; noi abbiamo aspettata luce, ed ecco tenebre; splendore, ed ecco camminiamo in caligine. | 9 Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not overtake us; we look for light, and behold, darkness, and for brightness, but we walk in gloom. |
| 10 Noi siamo andati brancolando intorno alla parete, come ciechi; siamo andati brancolando, come quelli che non hanno occhi; noi ci siamo intoppati nel mezzodì, come in sul vespro; noi siamo stati in luoghi ermi e solitari, come morti. | 10 We grope for the wall like the blind, we grope like those who have no eyes; we stumble at noon as in the twilight, among those in full vigor we are like dead men. |
| 11 Noi tutti fremiamo come orsi, e gemiamo continuamente come colombe; abbiamo aspettato il giudicio, e non ve n’è punto; la salute, ed ella si dilunga da noi. | 11 We all growl like bears, we moan and moan like doves; we look for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far from us. |
| 12 Perciocchè i nostri misfatti son moltiplicati dinanzi a te, ed i nostri peccati testificano contro a noi; conciossiachè i nostri misfatti sieno appo noi, e noi conosciamo le nostre iniquità; | 12 For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities: |
| 13 che sono: prevaricare, e mentire contro al Signore, e trarsi indietro dall’Iddio nostro; parlar di oppressione, e di rivolta; concepire, e ragionar col cuore parole di falsità. | 13 transgressing, and denying the LORD, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart lying words. |
| 14 Perciò, il giudicio si è tratto indietro, e la giustizia si è fermata lontano; perciocchè la verità è caduta nella piazza, e la dirittura non è potuta entrare. | 14 Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands afar off; for truth has fallen in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter. |
| 15 E la verità è mancata, e chi si ritrae dal male è stato in preda. Or il Signore ha veduto questo, e gli è dispiaciuto che non vi era dirittura alcuna | 15 Truth is lacking, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. The LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice. |
| 16 E veduto che non vi era uomo alcuno, e maravigliatosi che non vi era alcuno che s’interponesse, il suo braccio gli ha operata salute, e la sua giustizia l’ha sostenuto. | 16 He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intervene; then his own arm brought him victory, and his righteousness upheld him. |
| 17 E si è vestito di giustizia a guisa di corazza, e l’elmo della salute è stato sopra il suo capo; e, per vestimento, egli si è vestito degli abiti di vendetta, e si è ammantato di gelosia a guisa di ammanto; | 17 He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in fury as a mantle. |
| 18 come per far retribuzioni, come per rendere ira a’ suoi nemici, retribuzione a’ suoi avversari; per render la ricompensa alle isole. | 18 According to their deeds, so will he repay, wrath to his adversaries, requital to his enemies; to the coastlands he will render requital. |
| 19 Laonde il Nome del Signore sarà temuto dal Ponente, e la sua gloria dal Levante; perciocchè il nemico verrà a guisa di fiume; ma lo Spirito del Signore leverà lo stendardo contro a lui. | 19 So they shall fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come like a rushing stream, which the wind of the LORD drives. |
| 20 E il Redentore verrà a Sion, ed a quelli di Giacobbe che si convertiranno da’ misfatti, dice il Signore. | 20 "And he will come to Zion as Redeemer, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression, says the LORD. |
| 21 E quant’è a me, dice il Signore, questo sarà il mio patto che io farò con loro: Il mio Spirito, che è sopra te, e le mie parole che io ho messe nella tua bocca, non si partiranno giammai dalla tua bocca, nè dalla bocca della tua progenie, nè dalla bocca della progenie della tua progenie, da ora fino in eterno, ha detto il Signore | 21 "And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says the LORD: my spirit which is upon you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your children, or out of the mouth of your children's children, says the LORD, from this time forth and for evermore." |
