Si lo buscan, él se dejará encontrar por ustedes; si lo abandonan, él los abandonará. | 2 and he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, "Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: The LORD is with you, while you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. |
| 3 Durante mucho tiempo Israel estuvo sin verdadero Dios, sin sacerdote que lo instruyera y sin ley. | 3 For a long time Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law; |
| 4 Pero en su angustia, ellos se volvieron hacia el Señor, el Dios de Israel; lo buscaron, y el Señor se dejó encontrar por ellos. | 4 but when in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found by them. |
| 5 En aquellos tiempos no había paz para nadie, sino grandes tribulaciones sobre todos los habitantes del país. | 5 In those times there was no peace to him who went out or to him who came in, for great disturbances afflicted all the inhabitants of the lands. |
| 6 La gente y las ciudades se destruían unas contra otras, porque Dios las perturbaba con toda clase de calamidades. | 6 They were broken in pieces, nation against nation and city against city, for God troubled them with every sort of distress. |
| 7 Pero ustedes, ¡manténganse firmes y no desfallezcan! Porque sus obras serán recompensadas». | 7 But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded." |
| 8 Al oír estas palabras y la profecía que había pronunciado Azarías, hijo de Oded, Asá se decidió a eliminar los ídolos abominables de todo el territorio de Judá y Benjamín, y también de las ciudades que había conquistado en la montaña de Efraím. Además, restauró el altar del Señor que estaba delante del Vestíbulo del Templo. | 8 When Asa heard these words, the prophecy of Azariah the son of Oded, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities which he had taken in the hill country of Ephraim, and he repaired the altar of the LORD that was in front of the vestibule of the house of the LORD. |
| 9 Luego reunió a todo Judá y Benjamín, y a los hombres de Efraím, de Manasés y de Simeón que residían con ellos, porque mucha gente de Israel se había pasado de Asá, al ver que el Señor, su Dios, estaba con él. | 9 And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and those from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon who were sojourning with them, for great numbers had deserted to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him. |
| 10 Ellos se reunieron en Jerusalén el tercer mes del año quince del reinado de Asá. | 10 They were gathered at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa. |
| 11 Aquel día sacrificaron al Señor setecientos bueyes y siete mil ovejas del botín que habían traído, | 11 They sacrificed to the LORD on that day, from the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep. |
| 12 e hicieron un pacto, comprometiéndose a buscar al Señor, el Dios de sus padres, con todo su corazón y con toda su alma: | 12 And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul; |
| 13 a todo el que no buscara al Señor, el Dios de Israel, se lo había morir, fuera grande o pequeño, hombre o mujer. | 13 and that whoever would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman. |
| 14 Así lo juraron al Señor en alta voz. con gritos de júbilo y al son de trompetas y cuernos. | 14 They took oath to the LORD with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with horns. |
| 15 Todo Judá se alegró a causa del juramento, porque lo había prestado de todo corazón y había buscado sinceramente al Señor. Por eso el Señor se dejó encontrar por ellos y les dio paz por todas partes. | 15 And all Judah rejoiced over the oath; for they had sworn with all their heart, and had sought him with their whole desire, and he was found by them, and the LORD gave them rest round about. |
| 16 El rey Asá despojó incluso del rango de Reina Madre a su abuela Maacá, por haber dedicado un horrendo fetiche a la diosa Aserá. Asá eliminó ese fetiche, lo redujo a polvo y lo quemó en el torrente Cedrón. | 16 Even Maacah, his mother, King Asa removed from being queen mother because she had made an abominable image for Asherah. Asa cut down her image, crushed it, and burned it at the brook Kidron. |
| 17 Sin embargo, no desaparecieron de Israel los lugares altos, aunque el corazón de Asá perteneció íntegramente al Señor durante toda su vida. | 17 But the high places were not taken out of Israel. Nevertheless the heart of Asa was blameless all his days. |
| 18 El hizo llevar a la Casa del Señor las ofrendas consagradas por su padre y las que él mismo había consagrado: plata, oro y otros utensilios. | 18 And he brought into the house of God the votive gifts of his father and his own votive gifts, silver, and gold, and vessels. |
| 19 Y no hubo guerra hasta el año treinta y cinco del reinado de Asá. | 19 And there was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of the reign of Asa. |
