EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Todo el mundo hablaba una misma lengua y empleaba las mismas palabras.	1 And the earth was of one tongue, and of the same speech.
2 Y cuando los hombres emigraron desde Oriente, encontraron una llanura en la región de Senaar y se establecieron allí.	2 And when they removed from the east, they found a plain in the land of Sennaar, and dwelt in it.
3 Entonces se dijeron unos a otros: «¡Vamos! Fabriquemos ladrillos y pongámolos a cocer al fuego». Y usaron ladrillos en lugar de piedra, y el asfalto les sirvió de mezcla.	3 And each one said to his neighbour: Come, let us make brick, and bake them of stones, and slime instead of mortar.
4 Después dijeron: «Edifiquemos una ciudad, y también una torre cuya cúspide llegue hasta el cielo, para perpetuar nuestro nombre y no dispersarnos por toda la tierra».	4 And they said: Come, let us make a city and a tower, the top whereof may reach to heaven: and let us make our name famous before we be scattered abroad into all lands.
5 Pero el Señor bajó a ver la ciudad y la torre que los hombres estaban construyendo,	5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of Adam were building.
6 y dijo: «Si esta es la primera obra que realizan, nada de lo que se propongan hacer les resultará imposible, mientras formen un solo pueblo y todos hablen la misma lengua.	6 And he said: Behold, it is one people, and all have one tongue: and they have begun to do this, neither will they leave off from their designs, till they accomplish them in deed.
7 Bajemos entonces, y una vez allí, confundamos su lengua, para que ya no se entiendan unos a otros».	7 Come ye, therefore, let us go down, and there may not understand one another's speech.
8 Así el Señor los dispersó de aquel lugar, diseminándolos por toda la tierra, y ellos dejaron de construir la ciudad.	8 And so the Lord scattered them from that place into all lands, and they ceased to build the city.
9 Por eso se llamó Babel allí, en efecto, el Señor confundió la lengua de los hombres y los dispersó por toda la tierra.	9 And therefore the name thereof was called Babel, because there the language of the whole earth was confounded: and from thence the Lord scattered them abroad upon the face of all countries.
10 Esta es la descendencia de Sem; Sem tenía cien años cuando fue padre de Arpaxad, dos años después del Diluvio.	10 These are the generations of Sem: Sem was a hundred years old when he begot Arphaxad, two years old when he begot Arphaxad, two years after the flood.
11 Después que nació Arpaxad, Sem, vivió quinientos años, y tuvo hijos e hijas.	11 And Sem lived after he begot Arphaxad, five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
12 A los treinta y cinco años, Arpaxad fue padre de Sélaj.	12 And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Sale.
13 Después que nació Sélaj, Arpaxad vivió cuatrocientos tres años, y tuvo hijos e hijas.	13 And Arphaxad lived after he begot Sale, three hundred and three years; and begot sons and daughters.
14 A los treinta y cuatro años, Eber fue padre de Péleg.	14 Sale also lived thirty years, and begot Heber.
15 Después que nació Eber, Sélaj vivió cuatrocientos tres años, y tuvo hijos e hijas.	15 And Sale lived after he begot Heber, four hundred and three years; and begot sons and daughters.
16 A los treinta y cuatro años, Eber fue padre de Péleg.	16 And Heber lived thirty-four years, and begot Phaleg.
17 Después que nació Péleg, Eber vivió cuatrocientos treinta años, y tuvo hijos e hijas.	17 And Heber lived after he begot Phaleg, four hundred and thirty years: and begot sons and daughters.
18 A los treinta años, Péleg fue padre de Reú.	18 Phaleg also lived thirty years, and begot Reu.
19 Después que nació Reú, Péleg vivió doscientos nueve años, y tuvo hijos e hijas.	19 And Phaleg lived after he begot Reu, two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.
20 A los treinta y dos años, Reú fue padre de Serug.	20 And Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Sarug.
21 Después que nació Serug, Reú vivió doscientos siete años y tuvo hijos e hijas.	21 And Reu lived after he begot Sarug, two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.
22 A los treinta años, Serug fue padre de Najor.	22 And Sarug lived thirty years, and begot Nachor.
23 Después que nació Najor, Serug vivió doscientos años, y tuvo hijos e hijas.	23 And Sarug lived after he begot Nachor, two hundred years: and begot sons and daughters.
24 A los veintinueve años, Najor fue padre de Téraj.	24 And Nachor lived nine and twenty years, and begot Thare.
25 Después que nació Téraj, Najor vivió ciento diecinueve años, y tuvo hijos e hijas.	25 And Nachor lived after he begot Thare, a hundred and nineteen years: and begot sons and daughters.
26 A los setenta años, Téraj fue padre de Abram, Najor y Harán.	26 And Thare lived seventy years, and begot Abram, and Nachor, and Aran.
27 Esta es la descendencia de Téraj: Téraj fue padre de Abram, Najor y Harán. Harán fue padre de Lot,	27 And these are the generations of Thare: Thare begot Abram, Nachor, and Aran. And Aran begot Lot.
28 y murió en Ur de los caldeos, su país natal, mientras Téraj, su padre, aún vivía.	28 And Aran died before Thare his father, in the land of his nativity in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 Abram y Najor se casaron. La esposa de Abram se llamaba Sarai, y la de Najor, Milcá. Esta era hija de Harán, el padre de Milcá y de Iscá.	29 And Abram and Nachor married wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai: and the name of Nachor's wife, Melcha, the daughter of Aran, father of Melcha, and father of Jescha.
30 Sarai era estéril y no tenía hijos.	30 And Sarai was barren, and had no children.
31 Téraj reunió a su hijo Abram, a su nieto Lot, el hijo de Harán, y a su nuera Sarai, la esposa de su hijo Abram, y salieron todos juntos de Ur de los caldeos para dirigirse a Canaán. Pero cuando llegaron a Jarán, se establecieron allí.	31 And Thare took Abram, his son, and Lot the son of Aran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, the wife of Abram his son, and brought them out of Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Chanaan: and they came as far as Haran, and dwelt there.
32 Téraj vivió doscientos años, y murió en Jarán.	32 And the days of Thare were tow hundred and five years, and he died in Haran.
