| 1 Escuchad la palabra de Yahveh, hijos de Israel, que tiene pleito Yahveh con los habitantes de esta tierra, pues no hay ya fidelidad ni amor, ni conocimiento de Dios en esta tierra; | 1 Hear the word of the LORD, O people of Israel; for the LORD has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or kindness, and no knowledge of God in the land; |
| 2 sino perjurio y mentira, asesinato y robo, adulterio y violencia, sangre que sucede a sangre. | 2 there is swearing, lying, killing, stealing, and committing adultery; they break all bounds and murder follows murder. |
| 3 Por eso, la tierra está en duelo, y se marchita cuanto en ella habita, con las bestias del campo y las aves del cielo; y hasta los peces del mar desaparecen. | 3 Therefore the land mourns, and all who dwell in it languish, and also the beasts of the field, and the birds of the air; and even the fish of the sea are taken away. |
| 4 ¡Pero nadie pleitee ni reprenda nadie, pues sólo contigo, sacerdote, es mi pleito! | 4 Yet let no one contend, and let none accuse, for with you is my contention, O priest. |
| 5 En pleno día tropezarás tú, también el profeta tropezará contigo en la noche, y yo haré perecer a tu madre. | 5 You shall stumble by day, the prophet also shall stumble with you by night; and I will destroy your mother. |
| 6 Perece mi pueblo por falta de conocimiento. Ya que tú has rechazado el conocimiento, yo te rechazaré de mi sacerdocio; ya que tú has olvidado la Ley de tu Dios, también yo me olvidaré de tus hijos. | 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. |
| 7 Todos, cuantos son, han pecado contra mí, han cambiado su Gloria por la Ignominia. | 7 The more they increased, the more they sinned against me; I will change their glory into shame. |
| 8 Del pecado de mi pueblo comen y hacia su culpa llevan su avidez. | 8 They feed on the sin of my people; they are greedy for their iniquity. |
| 9 Mas será del sacerdote lo que sea del pueblo: yo le visitaré por su conducta y sus obras le devolveré. | 9 And it shall be like people, like priest; I will punish them for their ways, and requite them for their deeds. |
| 10 Comerán, pero no se saciarán, se prostituirán, pero no proliferarán, porque han abandonado a Yahveh para dedicarse | 10 They shall eat, but not be satisfied; they shall play the harlot, but not multiply; because they have forsaken the LORD to cherish harlotry. |
| 11 a la prostitución. El vino y el mosto arrebatan el seso. | 11 Wine and new wine take away the understanding. |
| 12 Mi pueblo consulta a su madero, y su palo le adoctrina, porque un espíritu de prostitución le extravía, y se protituyen sacudiéndose de su Dios. | 12 My people inquire of a thing of wood, and their staff gives them oracles. For a spirit of harlotry has led them astray, and they have left their God to play the harlot. |
| 13 En las cimas de los montes sacrifican, en las colinas queman incienso, bajo la encina, el chopo o el terebinto, ¡porque es buena su sombra! Por eso, si se prostituyen vuestras hijas y vuestras nueras cometen adulterio, | 13 They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and make offerings upon the hills, under oak, poplar, and terebinth, because their shade is good. Therefore your daughters play the harlot, and your brides commit adultery. |
| 14 no visitaré yo a vuestras hijas porque se prostituyan ni a vuestras nueras porque cometan adulterio, pues que ellos también se retiran con esas prostitutas y sacrifican con las consagradas a la prostitución; ¡y el pueblo, insensato, se pierde! | 14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your brides when they commit adultery; for the men themselves go aside with harlots, and sacrifice with cult prostitutes, and a people without understanding shall come to ruin. |
| 15 Si tú, Israel, te prostituyes, que no se haga culpable Judá. ¡No vayáis a Guilgal, No subáis a Bet Aven, no juréis «por vida de Yahveh»! | 15 Though you play the harlot, O Israel, let not Judah become guilty. Enter not into Gilgal, nor go up to Beth-aven, and swear not, "As the LORD lives." |
| 16 Ya que Israel se ha embravecido cual vaca brava, ¿los va a apacentar ahora Yahveh como a un cordero en ancho prado? | 16 Like a stubborn heifer, Israel is stubborn; can the LORD now feed them like a lamb in a broad pasture? |
| 17 Efraím se ha apegado a sus ídolos, ¡déjale! | 17 Ephraim is joined to idols, let him alone. |
| 18 En saliendo de beber se prostituyen más y más, prefieren a su Prez la Ignominia. | 18 A band of drunkards, they give themselves to harlotry; they love shame more than their glory. |
| 19 El viento los cerrará entre sus alas, y se avergonzarán de sus sacrificios. | 19 A wind has wrapped them in its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their altars. |
