Iob 33

1 Adunque odi, Iob, le mie parole, e tutti li miei sermoni ascolta.	1 Therefore, O Job, hear my discourse, and hearken to all my words.
2 Ecco io apro la mia bocca; e favelli la mia lingua nelle mie mascelle.	2 Behold, now I open my mouth; my tongue and my voice form words.
3 Collo mio semplice cuore le mie parole, e le mie labbra diranno la pura sentenza.	3 I will state directly what is in my mind, my lips shall utter knowledge sincerely;
4 Lo Spirito di Dio (pure) fece me, e lo spiracolo dell' Onnipotente vivificò me.	4 For the spirit of God has made me, the breath of the Almighty keeps me alive.
5 Se tu puoi, rispondi a me, e contrasta contro alla mia faccia.	5 If you are able, refute me; draw up your arguments and stand forth.
6 Ecco che me, sì come te, fece Iddio; e di quello medesimo fango certo io sono formato.	6 Behold I, like yourself, have been taken from the same clay by God.
7 Ma impertanto lo mio miracolo non ti spaventi, e le mie parole non siano gravi a te.	7 Therefore no fear of me should dismay you, nor should my presence weigh heavily upon you.
8 Dicesti adunque nelle mie orecchie, e la voce delle tue parole io udi':	8 But you have said in my hearing, as I listened to the sound of your words:
9 Io sono mondo, senza peccato e senza macchia, e non è iniquitade in me.	9 "I am clean and without transgression; I am innocent; there is no guilt in me.
10 Perciò che ritrovò in me la lamentazione, però ha egli arbitrato me suo nemico.	10 Yet he invents pretexts against me and reckons me as his enemy.
11 Pose nel nervo li miei piedi, e guardò tutte le mie vie.	11 He puts my feet in the stocks; he watches all my ways!"
12 Questa cosa è adunque, nella quale tu non se' giustificato; risponderò a te, perciò che maggiore è Iddio che l'uomo.	12 In this you are not just, let me tell you; for God is greater than man.
13 Contro a lui contendi, ch' elli non abbia risposto a te ad ogni parola?	13 Why, then, do you make complaint against him that he gives no account of his doings?
14 Una volta favella Iddio, e la seconda volta quello medesimo non ridice.	14 For God does speak, perhaps once, or even twice, though one perceive it not.
15 Per lo sogno, nella visione di notte, quando viene lo sonno sopra gli uomini, e dormono nel letto;	15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, (when deep sleep falls upon men) as they slumber in their beds,
16 allora apre le orecchie delli uomini, e ammaestrando loro insegna la disciplina,	16 It is then he opens the ears of men and as a warning to them, terrifies them;
17 acciò ch' egli rivolga l' uomo di quelle cose ch' elli fa, e liberi lui dalla superbia;	17 By turning man from evil and keeping pride away from him,
18 liberando l'anima sua da corruzione, e la vita sua, acciò ch' ella non passi nel coltello.	18 He withholds his soul from the pit and his life from passing to the grave.
19 E certo ello riprende per dolore nel letto, e tutte le sue osse fae marcire.	19 Or a man is chastened on his bed by pain and unceasing suffering within his frame,
20 Egli è abbominevole nella vita sua lo pane, e all' anima sua lo cibo che dinanzi è da essere desiderato.	20 So that to his appetite food becomes repulsive, and his senses reject the choicest nourishment.
21 Vengono meno le carni sue; e l'ossa, ch' erano coperte, fieno spogliate.	21 His flesh is wasted so that it cannot be seen, and his bones, once invisible, appear;
22 Approssimasi alla corruzione l'anima sua, e la vita sua alle cose mortifere.	22 His soul draws near to the pit, his life to the place of the dead.
23 Se sarà per lui l'angelo favellante una cosa di queste tali, acciò ch' elli anunzii la equità dell' uomo;	23 If then there be for him an angel, one out of a thousand, a mediator, To show him what is right for him and bring the man back to justice,
24 avrà misericordia di lui, e dirà: libera lui, acciò ch' elli non discenda nella corruzione; ho trovato in che io lo aiuterò.	24 He will take pity on him and say, "Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found him a ransom."
25 Consumata è la carne sua colli tormenti; ritorni a' di della sua giovinezza.	25 Then his flesh shall become soft as a boy's; he shall be again as in the days of his youth.
26 Pregherà Iddio, e piacevole a lui sarae; vedrà la faccia sua in allegrezza, e renderà all' uomo la sua giustizia.	26 He shall pray and God will favor him; he shall see God's face with rejoicing.
27 Ragguarderà li uomini, e dirà: peccai, e veramente peccai; e sì come era degno, non ricevetti.	27 He shall sing before men and say, "I sinned and did wrong, yet he has not punished me accordingly.
28 Liberò l'anima sua acciò ch' ella non andasse alla morte, ma vivente vedesse la luce.	28 He delivered my soul from passing to the pit, and I behold the light of life."
29 Ecco, queste cose adopera Iddio tre volte per ciascuno,	29 Lo, all these things God does, twice, or thrice, for a man,
30 acciò ch' egli rivolga l'anima sua della corruzione, e allumini con la luce delli viventi.	30 Bringing back his soul from the pit to the light, in the land of the living.
31 Attendi, Iob, e odi me; e taci, insino ch' io favello.	31 Be attentive, O Job; listen to me! Be silent and I will speak.
32 E se tu hai che favelli, rispondi a me; favella; certo io voglio che tu apparischi giusto.	32 If you have aught to say, then answer me. Speak out! I should like to see you justified.
33 La quale cosa se non l' hai, odi me, e taci; e inseguerò a te la sapienza.	33 If not, then do you listen to me; be silent while I teach you wisdom.
