| 3 Cercarono quindi in tutto il paese d'Israele una bella giovinetta e trovarono Abisag la Sunamita e la condussero al re. | 3 So they sought for a beautiful maiden throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king. |
| 4 La giovinetta era assai bella e dormiva col re e lo serviva; il re però non la conobbe. | 4 The maiden was very beautiful; and she became the king's nurse and ministered to him; but the king knew her not. |
| 5 Adonia figlio di Aggit, montato in superbia, diceva: «Io regnerò»; e si procurò dei carri, dei cavalieri e cinquanta uomini che corressero dinanzi a lui. | 5 Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, "I will be king"; and he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. |
| 6 Suo padre non lo aveva mai rimproverato e non gli aveva detto mai: «Perchè fai questo?». Adonia era anche bellissimo d'aspetto ed era nato dopo Absalom. | 6 His father had never at any time displeased him by asking, "Why have you done thus and so?" He was also a very handsome man; and he was born next after Absalom. |

| 8 Invece il sacerdote Sadoc e Banaia figlio di Joiada e il profeta Natan e Semei e Rei e il nerbo delle milizie di Davide non stavano per Adonia. | 8 But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shime-i, and Rei, and David's mighty men were not with Adonijah. |
| 9 Avendo Adonia immolato arieti, vitelli, e grasse vittime d'ogni qualità presso la Pietra di Zoelet, che era vicina alla fontana di Rogel, chiamò tutti i suoi fratelli, figli del re e tutti gli uomini di Giuda, che erano al servizio del re; | 9 Adonijah sacrificed sheep, oxen, and fatlings by the Serpent's Stone, which is beside En-rogel, and he invited all his brothers, the king's sons, and all the royal officials of Judah, |

| 11 Perciò Natan disse a Betsabea madre di Salomone: «Non hai sentito dire che Adonia figlio di Aggit si è fatto re e Davide nostro Signore non ne sa nulla? | 11 Then Nathan said to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, "Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king and David our lord does not know it? |
| 12 Or dunque vieni, segui un mio consiglio e salva la vite a te e al figliuol tuo Salomone. | 12 Now therefore come, let me give you counsel, that you may save your own life and the life of your son Solomon. |
| 13 Va', presentati al re Davide e digli: - Non hai tu, re mio signore, giurato a me tua ancella, dicendo: ''Salomone figliuol tuo regnerà dopo di me ed egli sederà sopra il mio trono? perchè regna adunque Adonia? " - | 13 Go in at once to King David, and say to him, 'Did you not, my lord the king, swear to your maidservant, saying, "Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne"? Why then is Adonijah king?' |
| 14 E quando tu ancora starai parlando col re, io entrerò dopo di te e completerò le tue parole». | 14 Then while you are still speaking with the king, I also will come in after you and confirm your words." |
| 15 Entrò adunque Betsabea nella stanza del re; questi ormai era molto invecchiato, e Abisag la Sunamita gli prestava assistenza. | 15 So Bathsheba went to the king into his chamber (now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering to the king). |
| 16 Betsabea si inchinò e adorò il re. Il re le domandò: «Che vuoi?», | 16 Bathsheba bowed and did obeisance to the king, and the king said, "What do you desire?" |
| 17 e quella gli rispose: «Mio signore, tu giurasti alla tua ancella per il Signore Dio tuo: - Il tuo figlio Salomone regnerà dopo di me ed egli si assiderà sopra il mio trono -; | 17 She said to him, "My lord, you swore to your maidservant by the LORD your God, saying, 'Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.' |
| 18 ed ecco che ora Adonia regna, senza che tu, o re mio signore, lo sappia. | 18 And now, behold, Adonijah is king, although you, my lord the king, do not know it. |
| 19 Uccise buoi e ogni sorta di vittime pingui e moltissimi arieti e chiamò tutti i figli del re, perfino Abiatar sacerdote e Joab capo dell'esercito; non chiamò però Salomone tuo servo. | 19 He has sacrificed oxen, fatlings, and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the sons of the king, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the commander of the army; but Solomon your servant he has not invited. |
| 20 Tuttavia, o re mio signore, gli occhi di tutto Israele son rivolti verso di te, perchè tu gli dichiari chi dovrà sedere sul tuo trono dopo di te, o re mio signore. | 20 And now, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are upon you, to tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. |
| 21 Altrimenti avverrà che, quando il re mio signore si sarà addormentato coi padri suoi, io e il figliuol mio Salomone saremo ritenuti come delinquenti». | 21 Otherwise it will come to pass, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be counted offenders." |
| 22 Stava ancora parlando col re, quando il profeta Natan arrivò | 22 While she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in. |
| 23 e fu annunziato al re con queste parole: «È qui il profeta Natan». Entrato che fu Natan al cospetto del re, lo adorò inchinandosi fino a terra, | 23 And they told the king, "Here is Nathan the prophet." | 25 poichè egli è disceso oggi ad immolare buoi, vittime grasse e moltissimi arieti e chiamò tutti i figli del re e i capi dell'esercito, come pure Abiatar sacerdote: e tra il mangiare e il bere dicono alla mia presenza: - Viva il re Adonia! - | 25 For he has gone down this day, and has sacrificed oxen, fatlings, and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king's sons, Joab the commander of the army, and Abiathar the priest; and behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and saying, 'Long live King Adonijah!' |
| 26 Ma non ha invitato me tuo servo, nè il sacerdote Sadoc, nè Banaia figlio di Joiada, nè Salomone tuo servo. | 26 But me, your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon, he has not invited. |
| 27 Questa cosa è proprio avvenuta per ordine del re mio signore, e tu non hai voluto dichiarare al servo tuo chi si sarebbe seduto sul trono del re mio signore dopo di lui?». | 27 Has this thing been brought about by my lord the king and you have not told your servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?" |
| 28 Il re Davide rispose: «Chiamatemi Betsabea». Come fu rientrata al cospetto del re e si fu messa a lui dinanzi, | 28 Then King David answered, "Call Bathsheba to me." So she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king. |
| 29 il re giurò e disse: «Viva il Signore, che liberò la mia anima da ogni angustia; | 29 And the king swore, saying, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my soul out of every adversity, |
| 30 poichè, come ho giurato a te per il Signore Dio d'Israele, dicendo: - Salomone tuo figlio regnerà dopo di me e si assiderà sul mio trono in mia vece, - così oggi farò». | 30 as I swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel, saying, 'Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead'; even so will I do this day." |
| 31 Betsabea inchinò la faccia verso terra e adorò il re, dicendo: «Viva in eterno Davide, mio signore!». | 31 Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground, and did obeisance to the king, and said, "May my lord King David live for ever!" |

| 35 Salirete poi dietro a lui ed egli verrà ad assidersi sopra il mio trono e regnerà in mia vece; io gli comanderò di essere il condottiere di Israele e di Giuda». | 35 You shall then come up after him, and he shall come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead; and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah." |
| 36 Banaia figlio di Joiada così rispose al re: «Così sia; allo stesso modo parli anche Iddio Signore del mio padrone il re. | 36 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, "Amen! May the LORD, the God of my lord the king, say so. |
| 37 Come il Signore assistette il mio padrone il re, così assista Salomone e innalzi il trono di lui al di sopra del trono del re Davide mio signore». | 37 As the LORD has been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David." |
| 38 Discesero adunque il sacerdote Sadoc, il profeta Natan, Banaia figlio di Joiada, i Ceretei e i Feletei; e fatto montare Salomone sulla mula del re Davide, lo condussero a Gion, | 38 So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, went down and caused Solomon to ride on King David's mule, and brought him to Gihon. |
| 39 dove il sacerdote Sadoc, preso l'olio del corno del tabernacolo, unse Salomone. Datosi quindi fiato alla tromba, tutto il popolo esclamò: «Viva il re Salomone!». | 39 There Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the tent, and anointed Solomon. | 44 e ha mandato con lui il sacerdote Sadoc e il profeta Natan e Banaia figlio di Joiada e i Ceretei e i Feletei, i quali l'hanno fatto montare sopra la mula del re. | 44 and the king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and they have caused him to ride on the king's mule; |

| 48 e ha detto: -Benedetto il Signore Dio d'Israele che mi ha dato oggi uno che segga sopra il mio trono e mi ha permesso di vederlo coi miei occhi-». | 48 And the king also said, 'Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has granted one of my offspring to sit on my throne this day, my own eyes seeing it.'" |
| 49 Atterriti allora tutti quelli che erano stati invitati da Adonia, si alzarono e se ne andò ciascuno pei fatti suoi; | 49 Then all the guests of Adonijah trembled, and rose, and each went his own way. |
| 50 mentre Adonia per paura di Salomone si alzò e andò a stringersi al corno dell'altare. | 50 And Adonijah feared Solomon; and he arose, and went, and caught hold of the horns of the altar. |
| 51 E vennero a dire a Salomone: «Adonia per paura del re Salomone si è stretto al corno dell'altare e dice: -Mi giuri il re Salomone oggi che non ucciderà colla spada il suo servo -». | 51 And it was told Solomon, "Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon; for, lo, he has laid hold of the horns of the altar, saying, 'Let King Solomon swear to me first that he will not slay his servant with the sword.'" |
| 52 Salomone disse: «Se sarà un uomo dabbene, non cadrà in terra neppur uno dei suoi capelli; ma se in lui si troverà del male, morrà». | 52 And Solomon said, "If he prove to be a worthy man, not one of his hairs shall fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die." |
| 53 Il re Salomone allora mandò [gente] a farlo allontanare dall'altare e [Adonia] venuto alla presenza del re, adorò Salomone e Salomone gli disse: «Va', a casa tua». | 53 So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and did obeisance to King Solomon; and Solomon said to him, "Go to your house." |
