1 Paul, cal ed by the wil of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and Sosthenes, our brother,	1 Paulo, chamado a ser Apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, por vontade de Deus, e Sóstenes, irmão,
2 to the church of God in Corinth, to those who have been consecrated in Christ Jesus and cal ed to beGod's holy people, with al those everywhere who cal on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord as wel asours.	2 à Igreja de Deus, que está em Corinto, aos santificados em Jesus Cristo, chamados a ser santos, com todos os que, em qualquer lugar, invocam o nome de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, seu Senhor e nosso:
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	3 Graça e paz (vos sejam dadas) da parte de Deus, nosso Pai, e do Senhor Jesus Cristo.
4 I am continual y thanking God about you, for the grace of God which you have been given in ChristJesus;	4 Dou graças, incessantemente, ao meu Deus por vós, pela graça de Deus, que vos foi dada em Jesus Cristo,
5 in him you have been richly endowed in every kind of utterance and knowledge;	5 porque nele fostes cumulados de todas as riquezas, de todas as (riquezas) da palavra e da ciência,
6 so firmly has witness to Christ taken root in you.	6 na medida em que a pregação de Cristo tomou força entre vós,
7 And so you are not lacking in any gift as you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed;	7 de maneira que nada falte em graça alguma a vós, que esperais a manifestação de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo,
8 he will continue to give you strength till the very end, so that you will be irreproachable on the Day ofour Lord Jesus Christ.	8 o qual também vos confirmará até ao fim para que sejais irrepreensíveis no dia da vinda de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
9 You can rely on God, who has called you to be partners with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.	9 Fiel é Deus, pelo qual fostes chamados à sociedade de seu Filho Jesus Cristo Nosso Senhor.
10 Brothers, I urge you, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, not to have factions among yourselves butal to be in agreement in what you profess; so that you are perfectly united in your beliefs and judgements.	10 Ora, rogo-vos, Irmãos, pelo nome de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que digais todos o mesmo e que entre vós não haja discórdias, mas vivei em perfeita harmonia no mesmo espírito e no mesmo parecer.
11 From what Chloe's people have been telling me about you, brothers, it is clear that there are seriousdifferences among you.	11 Porque a vosso respeito, Irmãos meus, me foi referido pelos (da casa) de Cloé, que há contendas entre vós.
12 What I mean is this: every one of you is declaring, 'I belong to Paul,' or 'I belong to Apollos,' or 'Ibelong to Cephas,' or 'I belong to Christ.'	12 E digo isto, porque cada um de vós diz: "Eu sou de Paulo! Eu de Apolo! Eu de Cefas! Eu de Cristo."
13 Has Christ been split up? Was it Paul that was crucified for you, or was it in Paul's name that you werebaptised?	13 Está dividido Cristo? Porventura Paulo foi crucificado por vós? Ou fostes baptizados em nome de Paulo?
14 I am thankful I did not baptise any of you, except Crispus and Gaius,	14 Dou graças a Deus, porque não batizei nenhum de vós, senão Crispo e Caio,
15 so that no one can say that you were baptised in my name.	15 para que ninguém diga que fostes batizados em meu nome.
16 Yes, I did baptise the family of Stephanas, too; but besides these I do not think I baptised anyone.	16 Batizei também a família de Estéfanas. De resto não sei se batizei mais alguém.
17 After al , Christ sent me not to baptise, but to preach the gospel; and not by means of wisdom oflanguage, wise words which would make the cross of Christ pointless.	17 Com efeito Cristo não me enviou a batizar, mas a pregar o Evangelho, não com a sabedoria das palavras, para que não se torne inútil a Cruz de Cristo.
18 The message of the cross is fol y for those who are on the way to ruin, but for those of us who are onthe road to salvation it is the power of God.	18 Efetivamente, a palavra da cruz é uma loucura para os que se perdem, mas, para os que se salvam, isto é, para nós, é a virtude de Deus.
19 As scripture says: I am going to destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing theunderstanding of any who understand.	19 Porque está escrito: Destruirei a sabedoria dos sábios e reprovarei a prudência dos prudentes (Is. 29, 14).
20 Where are the philosophers? Where are the experts? And where are the debaters of this age? Do younot see how God has shown up human wisdom as fol y?	20 Onde está o sábio? Onde o homem instruído? Onde o disputador deste mundo? Porventura não convenceu Deus de loucura a sabedoria deste mundo?
21 Since in the wisdom of God the world was unable to recognise God through wisdom, it was God's ownpleasure to save believers through the fol y of the gospel.	21 De fato, como ante a sabedoria de Deus o mundo não conheceu a Deus por meio da sabedoria, aprouve a Deus salvar os crentes por meio da loucura da pregação.
22 While the Jews demand miracles and the Greeks look for wisdom,	22 Enquanto os Judeus exigem milagres e os Gregos buscam a sabedoria,
23 we are preaching a crucified Christ: to the Jews an obstacle they cannot get over, to the gentilesfoolishness,	23 nós pregamos a Cristo crucificado, que é escândalo para os Judeus e loucura para os gentios,
24 but to those who have been cal ed, whether they are Jews or Greeks, a Christ who is both the powerof God and the wisdom of God.	24 mas, para os que são chamados (à fé) quer dos Judeus, quer dos Gregos, é Cristo virtude de Deus e sabedoria de Deus;
25 God's fol y is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength.	25 porque o que é loucura em Deus, é mais sábio que os homens, e o que é fraqueza em Deus, é mais forte que os homens.
26 Consider, brothers, how you were cal ed; not many of you are wise by human standards, not manyinfluential, not many from noble families.	26 Considerai, pois, Irmãos, a vossa vocação, (e vereis) que (entre vós não há) nem muitos sábios segundo a carne, nem muitos poderosos, nem muitos nobres;
27 No, God chose those who by human standards are fools to shame the wise; he chose those who byhuman standards are weak to shame the strong,	27 mas as coisas loucas, segundo o mundo, escolheu-as Deus para confundir os sábios, e as coisas fracas, segundo o mundo, escolheu-as Deus para confundir as fortes;
28 those who by human standards are common and contemptible -- indeed those who count for nothing-- to reduce to nothing al those that do count for something,	28 Deus escolheu as coisas vis e desprezíveis, segundo o mundo, e aquelas que não são, para destruir as que são,
29 so that no human being might feel boastful before God.	29 para que nenhuma criatura se glorie diante dele.
30 It is by him that you exist in Christ Jesus, who for us was made wisdom from God, and saving justiceand holiness and redemption.	30 É por ele que estais em Jesus Cristo, o qual foi feito por Deus, para nós, sabedoria, justiça, santificação e redenção,
31 As scripture says: If anyone wants to boast, let him boast of the Lord.	31 para que, como está escrito: O que se gloria, glorie-se no Senhor (Je. 9, 24).
