1 Volt egy Ramátaim-Szófímból, Efraim hegységéből való ember, akit Elkánának hívtak. Jerohámnak volt a fia, aki Eliúnak volt a fia, aki Tóhunak volt a fia, aki az efraimi Szúfnak volt a fia.	1 There was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim of the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
2 Két felesége volt, az egyiket Annának, a másikat Fenennának hívták. Fenennának voltak gyermekei, Annának viszont nem voltak gyermekei.	2 He had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 Ez az ember minden évben felment városából Silóba, hogy imádkozzon, és áldozatot mutasson be a Seregek Urának. Ott Héli két fia, Ofni és Fineesz volt az Úr papja.	3 Now this man used to go up year by year from his city to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD of hosts at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests of the LORD.
4 Egyszer aztán, amikor feljött a nap, Elkána leölte áldozatát, és adott belőle egy-egy részt Fenennának, a feleségének, és Fenenna valamennyi fiának és lányának.	4 On the day when Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters;
5 Annának azonban szomorúan adta oda az egy részt, mert Annát szerette, de az ő méhét az Úr bezárta.	5 and, although he loved Hannah, he would give Hannah only one portion, because the LORD had closed her womb.
6 Ezért a vetélytársnője bosszantotta is sokat, és bántotta, sőt azt is a szemére vetette, hogy az Úr bezárta a méhét.	6 And her rival used to provoke her sorely, to irritate her, because the LORD had closed her womb.

Így ő csak sírt, és nem nyúlt az ételhez.	7 So it went on year by year; as often as she went up to the house of the LORD, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat.
8 Elkána, a férje megkérdezte tőle: »Anna, miért sírsz, miért nem eszel, és miért kesereg szíved? Nem érek-e én neked tíz fiúnál többet?«	8 And Elkanah, her husband, said to her, "Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons?"
9 Miután ettek és ittak Silóban, Anna felkelt, és amíg Héli pap az Úr templomának ajtófélfájánál a székében üldögélt,	9 After they had eaten and drunk in Shiloh, Hannah rose. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat beside the doorpost of the temple of the LORD.
10 Anna keseredett szívvel imádkozott az Úrhoz, és nagyon sírt.	10 She was deeply distressed and prayed to the LORD, and wept bitterly.
11 Fogadalmat is tett, és ezt mondta: »Seregeknek Ura, ha letekintesz és meglátod szolgálód nyomorúságát, ha megemlékezel rólam, nem feledkezel el szolgálódról, és fiúmagzatot adsz szolgálódnak, akkor az Úrnak adom őt élete valamennyi napján, és borotva nem éri a fejét.«	11 And she vowed a vow and said, "O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy maidservant, and remember me, and not forget thy maidservant, but wilt give to thy maidservant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head."
12 Történt pedig, hogy amíg ő imádkozott az Úr előtt sokáig, Héli egyre figyelte a száját.	12 As she continued praying before the LORD, Eli observed her mouth.
13 Mivel Anna csak a szívében beszélt, és csak az ajka mozgott, a szava pedig egyáltalán nem hallatszott, Héli azt gondolta róla, hogy részeg.	13 Hannah was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, and her voice was not heard; therefore Eli took her to be a drunken woman.
14 Meg is kérdezte tőle: »Meddig leszel részeg? Menj, emészd meg egy kissé a bort, amitől elkábultál!«	14 And Eli said to her, "How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you."
15 Anna azt felelte: »Nem, uram! Nagyon szerencsétlen asszony vagyok én, sem bort, sem más részegítő italt nem ittam, csak a lelkemet öntöttem ki az Úr színe előtt.	15 But Hannah answered, "No, my lord, I am a woman sorely troubled; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the LORD.
16 Ne tartsd szolgálódat Béliál lányai közül valónak, mert bánatom és szomorúságom sokasága miatt szóltam mindeddig.«	16 Do not regard your maidservant as a base woman, for all along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation."
17 Héli erre azt mondta neki: »Menj békével, és Izrael Istene teljesítse kérésedet, amelyet hozzá intéztél.«	17 Then Eli answered, "Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have made to him."
18 Anna így válaszolt: »Bárcsak kegyelmet találna szolgálód a szemedben!« Azzal elment az asszony a maga útjára. Evett, és az arca többé bánatosra nem változott.	18 And she said, "Let your maidservant find favor in your eyes." Then the woman went her way and ate, and her countenance was no longer sad.
19 Reggel aztán felkeltek, imádkoztak az Úr előtt, aztán visszatértek, és elmentek házukba, Ramátába. Amikor aztán Elkána megismerte Annát, a feleségét, az Úr megemlékezett róla,	19 They rose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD; then they went back to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her;
20 és történt napok múltával, hogy Anna fogant, majd fiút szült. Sámuelnek nevezte el, mert az Úrtól kérte őt.	20 and in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, "I have asked him of the LORD."
21 Amikor aztán felment férje, Elkána és egész házanépe, hogy lerója ünnepi áldozatát és fogadalmát az Úrnak,	21 And the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer to the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and to pay his vow.
22 Anna nem ment fel. Azt mondta a férjének: »Nem megyek fel, amíg el nem választom a gyermeket. Akkor majd felviszem, hogy jelenjen meg az Úr színe előtt, és végleg ott is maradjon.«	22 But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, "As soon as the child is weaned, I will bring him, that he may appear in the presence of the LORD, and abide there for ever."
23 Elkána, a férje azt felelte neki: »Tedd csak, amit jónak látsz! Maradj, amíg el nem választod! Csak azért könyörgök, hogy az Úr teljesítse szavát!« Otthon maradt tehát az asszony, és szoptatta fiát, míg el nem választotta.	23 Elkanah her husband said to her, "Do what seems best to you, wait until you have weaned him; only, may the LORD establish his word." So the woman remained and nursed her son, until she weaned him.
24 Amikor aztán elválasztotta, felvitte magával, három fiatal bikával, három véka liszttel és egy korsó borral együtt, és elvitte az Úr házába, Silóba. A gyermek még kicsinyke volt.	24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine; and she brought him to the house of the LORD at Shiloh; and the child was young.
25 Amikor levágták a fiatal bikát, odavitték a gyermeket Hélihez.	25 Then they slew the bull, and they brought the child to Eli.
26 Anna ekkor így szólt: »Kérlek, uram! Életedre mondom, uram, hogy én vagyok az az asszony, aki előtted álltam, amikor itt az Úrhoz imádkoztam.	26 And she said, "Oh, my lord! As you live, my lord, I am the woman who was standing here in your presence, praying to the LORD.
27 Ezért a gyermekért imádkoztam, és az Úr teljesítette kérésemet, amelyet hozzá intéztem.	27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD has granted me my petition which I made to him.
28 Ezért én is kölcsönbe adom őt az Úrnak arra az egész időre, amely alatt kölcsönben kell lennie az Úrnál.« Ezután imádták ott az Urat.	28 Therefore I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives, he is lent to the LORD." And they worshipped the LORD there.
