1 Hét esztendős volt Joás, amikor uralkodni kezdett.	1 In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.
2 Jéhu hetedik esztendejében lett Joás királlyá s negyven esztendeig uralkodott Jeruzsálemben. Anyját, aki beersebai volt, Szebiának hívták.	2 And Jehoash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all his days, because Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
3 Joás azon egész idő alatt, amíg Jojáda pap oktatta, azt cselekedte, ami igaz az Úr előtt.	3 Nevertheless the high places were not taken away; the people continued to sacrifice and burn incense on the high places.
4 Mindazonáltal a magaslatokat nem távolította el s a nép továbbra is a magaslatokon áldozott és gyújtott illatot.	4 Jehoash said to the priests, "All the money of the holy things which is brought into the house of the LORD, the money for which each man is assessed--the money from the assessment of persons--and the money which a man's heart prompts him to bring into the house of the LORD,
5 Joás azt mondta a papoknak: »Minden olyan szent pénzt, amelyet a megszámláltak az Úr házába hoznak, vagy amelyet az emberek személyváltság fejében adományoznak, vagy amelyet önként, szívük jószántából az Úr templomába hoznak,	5 let the priests take, each from his acquaintance; and let them repair the house wherever any need of repairs is discovered."
6 vegyenek fel a papok beosztásuk szerint s ennek ellenében javíttassák ki a ház romlásait, ha valami kijavítani valót látnak.«	6 But by the twenty-third year of King Jehoash the priests had made no repairs on the house.
7 De Joás király huszonharmadik esztendejéig sem javíttatták ki a papok a templom romlásait.	7 Therefore King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests and said to them, "Why are you not repairing the house? Now therefore take no more money from your acquaintances, but hand it over for the repair of the house."
8 Hívatta erre Joás király Jojáda főpapot meg a papokat és azt mondta nekik: »Miért nem javíttatjátok ki a templom romlásait? Ne vegyétek fel tehát ezentúl a pénzt beosztástok szerint, hanem fordítsátok a templom kijavítására.«	8 So the priests agreed that they should take no more money from the people, and that they should not repair the house.
9 Nem volt szabad tehát többé a papoknak felvenniük a pénzt a néptől, de nem is kellett kijavíttatniuk a ház romlásait.	9 Then Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar on the right side as one entered the house of the LORD; and the priests who guarded the threshold put in it all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.
10 Ekkor vett Jojáda főpap egy ládát, felül lyukat csinált rá s elhelyezte az oltár mellé, az Úr házába vezető bejárat jobb oldalára s az ajtónálló papok abba tettek minden pénzt, amelyet az Úr templomába hoztak.	10 And whenever they saw that there was much money in the chest, the king's secretary and the high priest came up and they counted and tied up in bags the money that was found in the house of the LORD.
11 Ha aztán látták, hogy sok pénz van a ládában, felment a király jegyzője és a főpap, kiöntötték és megszámlálták a pénzt, amelyet az Úr házában találtak	11 Then they would give the money that was weighed out into the hands of the workmen who had the oversight of the house of the LORD; and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders who worked upon the house of the LORD,
12 és szám és súly szerint azok kezébe adták, akik az Úr házának mesterembereire felügyeltek, azok pedig kiadták az ácsoknak és a kőműveseknek, akik az Úr házán dolgoztak	12 and to the masons and the stonecutters, as well as to buy timber and quarried stone for making repairs on the house of the LORD, and for any outlay upon the repairs of the house.
13 s a romlásokat javították, meg a kőfaragóknak, meg arra, hogy fát és faragott követ vásároljanak rajta, hogy így véghezvigyék az Úr házának kijavítását mindabban, amiben a ház erősítése végett költségekre volt szükség.	13 But there were not made for the house of the LORD basins of silver, snuffers, bowls, trumpets, or any vessels of gold, or of silver, from the money that was brought into the house of the LORD,
14 De vedrek, villák, tömjénezők, trombiták, szóval arany- és ezüsttárgyak nem készültek ebből a pénzből az Úr temploma számára – abból a pénzből, amelyeket az Úr templomába hoztak –,	14 for that was given to the workmen who were repairing the house of the LORD with it.
15 mert azt azoknak adták át, akik a munkát vezették, hogy az Úr templomát javítsák ki.	15 And they did not ask an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to pay out to the workmen, for they dealt honestly.
16 Elszámolást nem kívántak azoktól az emberektől, akik a pénzt átvették, hogy a mesteremberek közt kiosszák, hanem bizalmi alapon kezelték.	16 The money from the guilt offerings and the money from the sin offerings was not brought into the house of the LORD; it belonged to the priests.
17 A vétekért való áldozatból származó pénzt azonban, meg a bűnért való áldozatokból származó pénzt, nem szolgáltatták be az Úr templomába, mert az a papoké volt.	17 At that time Hazael king of Syria went up and fought against Gath, and took it. But when Hazael set his face to go up against Jerusalem,
18 Ekkoriban feljött Házaél, Szíria királya s hadakozott Gát ellen s bevette, majd megfordult, hogy felvonuljon Jeruzsálem ellen.	18 Jehoash king of Judah took all the votive gifts that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, the kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own votive gifts, and all the gold that was found in the treasuries of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent these to Hazael king of Syria. Then Hazael went away from Jerusalem.
19 Ekkor Joás, Júda királya vette mindazokat a szent tárgyakat, amelyeket atyái, Jozafát, Jórám, Ahaszja, Júda királyai az Úrnak szenteltek, meg amelyeket ő ajánlott fel, meg az összes ezüstöt, amely az Úr templomának s a király palotájának kincsei közt akadt s elküldte Házaélnek, Szíria királyának. Erre az visszavonult Jeruzsálem alól.	19 Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
20 Joás egyéb dolgai pedig s mindaz, amit cselekedett, nemde meg vannak írva Júda királyainak krónikás könyvében?	20 His servants arose and made a conspiracy, and slew Joash in the house of Millo, on the way that goes down to Silla.
21 Végül szolgái fellázadtak s összeesküdtek egymás között s leütötték Joást Milló házában, Cilla lejtőjén:	21 It was Jozacar the son of Shime-ath and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, who struck him down, so that he died. And they buried him with his fathers in the city of David, and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
22 Jozakár, Semaát fia és Jozabád, Sómer fia, a szolgái sújtották halálra. Aztán eltemették atyái mellé Dávid városában, és fia, Amaszja, lett a király helyette.
