1 Der Herr sprach zu Mose:	1 The LORD said to Moses,
2 Schick einige Männer aus, die das Land Kanaan erkunden, das ich den Israeliten geben will. Aus jedem Väterstamm sollt ihr einen Mann aussenden, und zwar jeweils einen der führenden Männer.	2 "Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I give to the people of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, every one a leader among them."
3 Da schickte Mose von der Wüste Paran die Männer aus, wie es der Herr befohlen hatte. Sie alle waren führende Männer unter den Israeliten	3 So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran, according to the command of the LORD, all of them men who were heads of the people of Israel.
4 und das sind ihre Namen: aus dem Stamm Ruben Schamua, der Sohn Sakkurs;	4 And these were their names: From the tribe of Reuben, Shammu-a the son of Zaccur;
5 aus dem Stamm Simeon Schafat, der Sohn Horis;	5 from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;
6 aus dem Stamm Juda Kaleb, der Sohn Jefunnes;	6 from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;
7 aus dem Stamm Issachar Jigal, der Sohn Josefs;	7 from the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;
8 aus dem Stamm Efraim Hoschea, der Sohn Nuns;	8 from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;
9 aus dem Stamm Benjamin Palti, der Sohn Rafus;	9 from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;
10 aus dem Stamm Sebulon Gadiël, der Sohn Sodis;	10 from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;
11 aus dem Josefstamm Manasse Gadi, der Sohn Susis;	11 from the tribe of Joseph (that is from the tribe of Manasseh), Gaddi the son of Susi;
12 aus dem Stamm Dan Ammiël, der Sohn Gemallis;	12 from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;
13 aus dem Stamm Ascher Setur, der Sohn Michaels;	13 from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;
14 aus dem Stamm Naftali Nachbi, der Sohn Wofsis;	14 from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;
15 aus dem Stamm Gad Gëuël, der Sohn Machis.	15 from the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
16 Das waren die Namen der Männer, die Mose zur Erkundigung des Landes aussandte. Hoschea aber, den Sohn Nuns, nannte Mose Josua.	16 These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.
17 Als Mose sie ausschickte, um Kanaan erkunden zu lassen, sagte er zu ihnen: Zieht von hier durch den Negeb und steigt hinauf ins Gebirge!	17 Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, "Go up into the Negeb yonder, and go up into the hill country,
18 Seht, wie das Land beschaffen ist und ob das Volk, das darin wohnt, stark oder schwach ist, ob es klein oder groß ist;	18 and see what the land is, and whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many,
19 seht, wie das Land beschaffen ist, in dem das Volk wohnt, ob es gut ist oder schlecht und wie die Städte angelegt sind, in denen es wohnt, ob sie offen oder befestigt sind	19 and whether the land that they dwell in is good or bad, and whether the cities that they dwell in are camps or strongholds,
20 und ob das Land fett oder mager ist, ob es dort Bäume gibt oder nicht. Habt Mut und bringt Früchte des Landes mit! Es war gerade die Zeit der ersten Trauben.	20 and whether the land is rich or poor, and whether there is wood in it or not. Be of good courage, and bring some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes.
21 Da zogen die Männer hinauf und erkundeten das Land von der Wüste Zin bis Rehob bei Lebo- Hamat.	21 So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, near the entrance of Hamath.
22 Sie durchzogen zuerst den Negeb und kamen bis Hebron. Dort lebten Ahiman, Scheschai und Talmai, Söhne des Anak. Hebron war sieben Jahre vor der Stadt Zoan, die in Ägypten liegt, erbaut worden.	22 They went up into the Negeb, and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
23 Von dort kamen sie in das Traubental. Dort schnitten sie eine Rebe mit einer Weintraube ab und trugen sie zu zweit auf einer Stange, dazu auch einige Granatäpfel und Feigen.	23 And they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and cut down from there a branch with a single cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two of them; they brought also some pomegranates and figs.
24 Den Ort nannte man später Traubental wegen der Traube, die die Israeliten dort abgeschnitten hatten.	24 That place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the men of Israel cut down from there.
25 Vierzig Tage, nachdem man sie zur Erkundung des Landes ausgeschickt hatte, machten sie sich auf den Rückweg.	25 At the end of forty days they returned from spying out the land.
26 Sie kamen zu Mose und Aaron und zu der ganzen Gemeinde der Israeliten in die Wüste Paran nach Kadesch. Sie berichteten ihnen und der ganzen Gemeinde und zeigten ihnen die Früchte des Landes.	26 And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the people of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.
27 Sie erzählten Mose: Wir kamen in das Land, in das du uns geschickt hast: Es ist wirklich ein Land, in dem Milch und Honig fließen; das hier sind seine Früchte.	27 And they told him, "We came to the land to which you sent us; it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.
28 Aber das Volk, das im Land wohnt, ist stark und die Städte sind befestigt und sehr groß. Auch haben wir die Söhne des Anak dort gesehen.	28 Yet the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there.
29 Amalek wohnt im Gebiet des Negeb, die Hetiter, die Jebusiter und Amoriter wohnen im Gebirge und die Kanaaniter wohnen am Meer und am Ufer des Jordan.	29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan."
30 Kaleb beruhigte das Volk, das über Mose aufgebracht war, und sagte: Wir können trotzdem hinaufziehen und das Land in Besitz nehmen; wir werden es gewiss bezwingen.	30 But Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once, and occupy it; for we are well able to overcome it."
31 Die Männer aber, die mit Kaleb zusammen nach Kanaan hinaufgezogen waren, sagten: Wir können nichts gegen dieses Volk ausrichten; es ist stärker als wir.	31 Then the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we."
32 Und sie verbreiteten bei den Israeliten falsche Gerüchte über das Land, das sie erkundet hatten, und sagten: Das Land, das wir durchwandert und erkundet haben, ist ein Land, das seine Bewohner auffrisst; alle Leute, die wir dort gesehen haben, sind hochgewachsen.	32 So they brought to the people of Israel an evil report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land, through which we have gone, to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.
33 Sogar die Riesen haben wir dort gesehen - die Anakiter gehören nämlich zu den Riesen. Wir kamen uns selbst klein wie Heuschrecken vor und auch ihnen erschienen wir so.	33 And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim); and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them."
