1 The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, of all things which Jesus began to do and to teach,	1 No meu primeiro livro, ó Teófilo, falei de todas as coisas que Jesus fez e ensinou, desde o princípio
2 Until the day on which, giving commandments by the Holy Ghost to the apostles whom he had chosen, he was taken up.	2 até ao dia em que, tendo dado as suas instruções por meio do Espírito Santo aos Apóstolos, que tinha escolhido, foi arrebatado ao céu;
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion, by many proofs, for forty days appearing to them, and speaking of the kingdom of God.	3 aos quais também se manifestou vivo, depois da sua Paixão, com muitas provas, aparecendo-lhes, durante quarenta dias, e falando do reino de Deus.
4 And eating together with them, he commanded them, that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but should wait for the promise of the Father, which you have heard (saith he) by my mouth.	4 Estando à mesa com eles, ordenou-lhes que não se afastassem de Jerusalém, mas que esperassem a promessa do Pai, "a qual ouvistes (disse ele) da minha boca;
5 For John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, not many days hence.	5 porque João, na verdade, baptizou em água, mas vós sereis baptizados no Espírito Santo, daqui a poucos dias."
6 They therefore who were come together, asked him, saying: Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?	6 Então os que se tinham congregado, interrogavam-no: "Senhor, porventura chegou o tempo em que ides restabelecer o reino de Israel?"
7 But he said to them: It is not for you to know the times or moments, which the Father hath put in his own power:	7 Ele disse-lhes: "Não vos pertence a vós saber os tempos nem os momentos que o Pai reservou ao seu poder;
8 But you shall receive the power of the Holy Ghost coming upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the uttermost part of the earth.	8 mas recebereis a virtude do Espírito Santo, que descerá sobre vós, e sereis minhas testemunhas em Jerusalém, em toda a Judeia, na Samaria e até às extremidades da terra."
9 And when he had said these things, while they looked on, he was raised up: and a cloud received him out of their sight.	9 Tendo dito isto, elevou-se à vista deles, e uma nuvem o ocultou aos seus olhos.
10 And while they were beholding him going up to heaven, behold two men stood by them in white garments.	10 Como estivessem olhando para o céu, quando ele ia subindo, eis que se apresentaram junto deles dois personagens vestidos de branco,
11 Who also said: Ye men of Galilee, why stand you looking up to heaven? This Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come, as you have seen him going into heaven.	11 os quais lhes disseram: "Homens da Galileia, por que estais aí parados olhando para o céu? Esse Jesus que, separando-se de vós, foi arrebatado ao céu, virá do mesmo modo que o viste ir para o céu."
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount that is called Olivet, which is nigh Jerusalem, within a sabbath day's journey.	12 Então voltaram para Jerusalém, do monte chamado das Oliveiras que dista de Jerusalém a jornada de um sábado.
13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Jude the brother of James.	13 Logo que chegaram, subiram ao cenáculo, onde permaneciam habitualmente Pedro, João, Tiago, André, Filipe, Tomé, Bartolomeu, Mateus, Tiago, filho de Alfeu, Simão o Zelador, e Judas, irmão de Tiago.
14 All these were persevering with one mind in prayer with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.	14 Todos estes perseveravam unânimemente em oração, com as mulheres e com Maria, Mãe de Jesus, e com os irmãos dele.
15 In those days Peter rising up in the midst of the brethren, said: (now the number of persons together was about an hundred and twenty:)	15 Naqueles dias, levantando-se Pedro no meio dos irmãos (o número das pessoas ali reunidas era de cerca cento e vinte), disse:
16 Men, brethren, the scripture must needs be fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was the leader of them that apprehended Jesus:	16 "Irmãos, é necessário que se cumpra o que o Espírito Santo predisse na Escritura pela boca de David, acerca de Judas, que foi o guia daqueles que prenderam Jesus.
17 Who was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.	17 Ele estava alistado entre nós e tinha recebido a sua parte no nosso ministério.
18 And he indeed hath possessed a field of the reward of iniquity, and being hanged, burst asunder in the midst: and all his bowels gushed out.	18 Este homem, depois de adquirir um campo com o salário da sua iniquidade, tendo caído de cabeça, rebentou pelo meio, e todas as suas entranhas se derramaram.
19 And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem: so that the same field was called in their tongue, Haceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.	19 Este facto tornou-se tão notório a todos os habitantes de Jerusalém, que se ficou chamando aquele campo, na língua deles, Haceldama, isto é, Campo de sangue.
20 For it is written in the book of Psalms: Let their habitation become desolate, and let there be none to dwell therein. And his bishopric let another take.	20 Com efeito, está escrito no livro dos Salmos: Fique deserta a sua morada, e não haja quem habite nela! E: Receba outro o seu ministério (Ps. 68, 26; Ps. 108, 8).
21 Wherefore of these men who have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus came in and went out among us,	21 É necessário, pois, que, destes varões que têm estado juntos connosco durante todo o tempo em que o Senhor Jesus viveu entre nós,
22 Beginning from the baptism of John, until the day wherein he was taken up from us, one of these must be made a witness with us of his resurrection.	22 desde o baptismo de João até ao dia em que foi arrebatado (ao céu) dentre nós, um deles seja constituído testemunha connosco da sua ressurreição.
23 And they appointed two, Joseph, called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.	23 Foram apresentados dois: José, chamado Barsabas, o qual tinha por sobrenome o Justo, e Matias.
24 And praying, they said: Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,	24 E, orando, disseram: "Tu, Senhor, que conheces os corações de todos, mostra-nos destes dois o que escolheste
25 To take the place of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas hath by transgression fallen, that he might go to his own place.	25 para ocupar o lugar deste ministério e apostolado, do qual se transviou Judas para ir para o seu lugar."
26 And they gave them lots, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.	26 Tiraram os seus nomes à sorte, e caiu a sorte em Matias, o qual foi associado aos onze Apóstolos.
