Proverbios 19

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Mejor es el pobre que camina en su integridad que el de labios perversos y además necio.	1 Better the poor living an honest life than the adept at double-talk who is a fool.
2 Tampoco es bueno el afán cuando falta la ciencia, el de pies precipitados se extravía.	2 Where knowledge is wanting, zeal is not good; whoever goes too quickly stumbles.
3 La necedad del hombre pervierte su camino, y luego en su corazón se irrita contra Yahveh.	3 Folly leads conduct astray, yet it is against Yahweh that the heart rages.
4 La riqueza multiplica los amigos, pero el pobre de su amigo es separado.	4 Wealth multiplies friends, but the one friend the poor has is taken away.
5 El testigo falso no quedará impune, el que profiere mentiras no escapará.	5 The false witness wil not go unpunished, no one who utters lies wil go free.
6 Son numerosos los que halagan al noble, todos son amigos del hombre que da.	6 The nobleman has many to court his favour, to a giver of gifts, everyone is friend.
7 Los hermanos del pobre le odian todos, ¡cuánto más se alejarán de él los amigos! Persigue palabras, pero no hay.	7 The poor man's brothers hate him, every one; his friends -- how much the more do these desert him!He goes in search of words, but there are none to be had.
8 El que adquiere cordura se ama a sí mismo, el que sigue la prudencia, hallará la dicha.	8 Whoever acquires sense wins profit from it, whoever treasures understanding finds happiness.
9 El testigo falso no quedará impune, el que profiere mentiras perecerá.	9 The false witness wil not go unpunished, whoever utters lies wil be destroyed.
10 No sienta bien al necio vivir en delicias, y menos al siervo dominar a los príncipes.	10 It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury, stil less for a slave to govern princes.
11 La prudencia del hombre domina su ira, y su gloria es dejar pasar una ofensa.	11 Good sense makes for self-control, and for pride in overlooking an offence.
12 Como rugido de león la indignación del rey, su favor, como rocío sobre la hierba.	12 Like the roaring of a lion, the anger of a king, but like dew on the grass his favour.
13 El hijo necio, calamidad para su padre, goteo sin fin las querellas de mujer.	13 A foolish child is a disaster for the father, the bickerings of a wife are like an ever-dripping gutter.
14 Casa y fortuna se heredan de los padres, mujer prudente viene de Yahveh.	14 From fathers comes inheritance of house and wealth, from Yahweh a wife who is discreet.
15 La pereza hunde en el sopor, el alma indolente pasará hambre.	15 Idleness lul s to sleep, the feckless soul wil go hungry.
16 Quien guarda los mandatos se guarda a sí mismo, quien desprecia sus caminos morirá.	16 Keeping the commandment is self-preservation, but whoever despises these ways wil die.
17 Quien se apiada del débil, presta a Yahveh, el cual le dará su recompensa.	17 Whoever is kind to the poor is lending to Yahweh who wil repay him the kindness done.
18 Mientras hay esperanza corrige a tu hijo, pero no te excites hasta hacerle morir.	18 While there is hope for him, chastise your child, but do not get so angry as to kill him.
19 El iracundo carga con la multa; pues si le perdonas, se la tendrás que aumentar.	19 The violent lays himself open to a penalty; spare him, and you aggravate his crime.
20 Escucha el consejo, acoge la corrección, para llegar, por fin, a ser sabio.	20 Listen to advice, accept correction, to be the wiser in the time to come.
21 Muchos proyectos en el corazón del hombre, pero sólo el plan de Yahveh se realiza.	21 Many are the plans in the human heart, but the purpose of Yahweh -- that stands firm.
22 Lo que se desea en un hombre es la bondad, más vale un pobre que un mentiroso.	22 Faithful love is what people look for in a person; they prefer the poor to a liar.
23 El temor de Yahveh es para vida, vive satisfecho sin ser visitado por el mal.	23 The fear of Yahweh leads to life, it brings food and shelter, without fear of evil.
24 El perezoso hunde la mano en el plato, y no es capaz ni de llevarla a la boca.	24 Into the dish the idler dips his hand, but bring it back to his mouth he cannot.
25 Golpea al arrogante y el simple se volverá sensato; reprende al inteligente y alcanzará el saber.	25 Strike a cynic, and simpletons wil be more wary; reprove the intel igent and he wil understand yourmeaning.
26 El que despoja a su padre y expulsa a su madre, es hijo infamante y desvergonzado.	26 He who il -treats his father and drives out his mother is a child both worthless and depraved.
27 Deja ya, hijo, de escuchar la instrucción, y de apartarte de las palabras de la ciencia.	27 Give up listening to instruction, my child, if you mean to stray from words of knowledge.
28 El testigo malvado se burla del derecho; la boca de los malos devora iniquidad.	28 A perjured witness holds the law in scorn; the mouth of the wicked feasts on evil-doing.
29 Los castigos están hechos para los arrogantes; y los golpes para la espalda de los necios.	29 Punishments were made for mockers, and beating for the backs of fools.
