1 Pavao, apostol Krista Isusa po nalogu Boga, Spasitelja našega, i Krista Isusa, nade naše,	1 Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus appointed by the command of God our Saviour and of Christ Jesus ourhope,
2 Timoteju, pravomu sinu u vjeri: milost, milosrđe i mir od Boga Oca i Krista Isusa, Gospodina našega!	2 to Timothy, true child of mine in the faith. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from ChristJesus our Lord.
3 Kao što sam te zamolio kad sam odlazio u Makedoniju, ostani u Efezu da zapovjediš nekima neka ne naučavaju drugih nauka	3 When I was setting out for Macedonia I urged you to stay on in Ephesus to instruct certain people not tospread wrong teaching
4 i neka se ne zanose beskrajnim bajkama i rodoslovljima, koja više pogoduju rasprama negoli rasporedbi Božjoj po vjeri.	4 or to give attention to myths and unending genealogies; these things only foster doubts instead offurthering God's plan which is founded on faith.
5 Svrha je te zapovijedi ljubav iz čista srca, dobre savjesti i vjere neprijetvorne.	5 The final goal at which this instruction aims is love, issuing from a pure heart, a clear conscience and asincere faith.
6 To su neki promašili i zastranili u praznorječje;	6 Some people have missed the way to these things and turned to empty speculation,
7 htjeli bi biti učitelji Zakona, a ne razumiju ni što govore ni što tvrde.	7 trying to be teachers of the Law; but they understand neither the words they use nor the matters aboutwhich they make such strong assertions.
8 A mi znamo da je Zakon dobar ako se tko njime služi zakonito,	8 We are wel aware that the Law is good, but only provided it is used legitimately,
9 svjestan toga da je Zakon tu ne za pravednika nego za bezakonike i nepokornike, nepobožnike i grešnike, bezbožnike i svetogrdnike, ocoubojice i materoubojice, koljače,	9 on the understanding that laws are not framed for people who are upright. On the contrary, they are forcriminals and the insubordinate, for the irreligious and the wicked, for the sacrilegious and the godless; they arefor people who kil their fathers or mothers and for murderers,
10 bludnike, muškoložnike, trgovce ljudima, varalice, krivokletnike, i ima li još što protivno zdravom nauku –	10 for the promiscuous, homosexuals, kidnappers, for liars and for perjurers -- and for everything else thatis contrary to the sound teaching
11 po evanđelju Slave blaženoga Boga koje je meni povjereno.	11 that accords with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, the gospel that was entrusted to me.
12 Bogu Zahvalan sam Onome koji mi dade snagu – Kristu Isusu, Gospodinu našemu – jer me smatrao vrijednim povjerenja, kad u službu postavi mene	12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength. By cal ing me into his service he has judgedme trustworthy,
13 koji prije bijah hulitelj, progonitelj i nasilnik. Ali pomilovan sam jer sam to u neznanju učinio, još u nevjeri.	13 even though I used to be a blasphemer and a persecutor and contemptuous. Mercy, however, wasshown me, because while I lacked faith I acted in ignorance;
14 I milost Gospodina našega preobilovala je zajedno s vjerom i ljubavlju, u Kristu Isusu.	14 but the grace of our Lord filled me with faith and with the love that is in Christ Jesus.
15 Vjerodostojna je riječ i vrijedna da se posve prihvati: Isus Krist dođe na svijet spasiti grešnike, od kojih sam prvi ja.	15 Here is a saying that you can rely on and nobody should doubt: that Christ Jesus came into the worldto save sinners. I myself am the greatest of them;
16 A pomilovan sam zato da na meni prvome Isus Krist pokaže svu strpljivost i pruži primjer svima koji će povjerovati u njega za život vječni.	16 and if mercy has been shown to me, it is because Jesus Christ meant to make me the leading exampleof his inexhaustible patience for al the other people who were later to trust in him for eternal life.
17 A Kralju vjekova, besmrtnome, nevidljivome, jedinome Bogu čast i slava u vijeke vjekova. Amen.	17 To the eternal King, the undying, invisible and only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
18 Taj ti zadatak predajem, sine Timoteju, u skladu s proroštvima nekoć nad tobom izrečenima: na njih oslonjen, bij boj plemeniti	18 Timothy, my son, these are the instructions that I am giving you, in accordance with the words oncespoken over you by the prophets, so that in their light you may fight like a good soldier
19 imajući vjeru i dobru savjest, koju su neki odbacili i doživjeli brodolom vjere.	19 with faith and a good conscience for your weapons. Some people have put conscience aside andwrecked their faith in consequence.
20 Među njima su Himenej i Aleksandar, koje sam predao Sotoni da nauče ne huliti.	20 I mean men like Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan so that they may learnnot to be blasphemous.
