BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E allora dicevali la parabola, imperò che bisogna sempre orare, e mai non cessare,	1 Then he told them a parable about the need to pray continual y and never lose heart.
2 dicendo: v' era in una città uno [giudice], il quale non temeva Iddio, e non avea li uomini in riverenza.	2 'There was a judge in a certain town,' he said, 'who had neither fear of God nor respect for anyone.
3 Ed eravi in quella città una donna vedova, la quale a lui veniva, dicendo: vèndicami del mio avversario.	3 In the same town there was also a widow who kept on coming to him and saying, "I want justice fromyou against my enemy!"
4 Ed egli non voleva per molto tempo. Poscia egli disse infra se; ben ch' io non temo Iddio, nè riverisco li uomini,	4 For a long time he refused, but at last he said to himself, "Even though I have neither fear of God norrespect for any human person,
5 ma perchè lei a me è molesta, questa vedova, vendicarolla, acciò che venendo nell'ultimo [non] mi strangoli (ovvero suffochi).	5 I must give this widow her just rights since she keeps pestering me, or she wil come and slap me in the face." '
6 E disse il Signore: udite quel che dice il giudice d' iniquità?	6 And the Lord said, 'You notice what the unjust judge has to say?
7 Or Iddio non farà vendetta de' suoi eletti, gridanti a sè dì e notte, ed egli avrà pazienza in quelli?	7 Now, will not God see justice done to his elect if they keep cal ing to him day and night even though hestill delays to help them?
8 Io vi dico che certo egli farà vendetta di quelli. Niente di meno, venendo il Figliuolo dell' uomo, or pensi ch' egli trovarà fede in terra?	8 I promise you, he wil see justice done to them, and done speedily. But when the Son of man comes,wil he find any faith on earth?'
9 E disse ad alquanti uomini, li quali si confidavano di loro medesimi, e reputavansi giusti, e disprezzavano gli altri, questa parola:	9 He spoke the following parable to some people who prided themselves on being upright and despisedeveryone else,
10 Due uomini andarono nel tempio a orare; l'uno era pubblicano, e l'altro Fariseo.	10 'Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax col ector.
11 E il Fariseo stava in sè, e diceva orando: Signore, io ti rendo grazie, imperò ch' io non sono come gli altri uomini, rubatori e ingiusti e adulteri, sì com'è eziandio questo publicano.	11 The Pharisee stood there and said this prayer to himself, "I thank you, God, that I am not grasping,unjust, adulterous like everyone else, and particularly that I am not like this tax col ector here.
12 Imperò ch' io digiuno due giorni della settimana, e do la decima di ogni cosa ch' io possedo.	12 I fast twice a week; I pay tithes on al I get."
13 E il publicano stava dalla lunga, e non ardiva di levare gli occhi al cielo, ma percotendosi il petto, diceva: Signore, abbi misericordia di me peccatore.	13 The tax collector stood some distance away, not daring even to raise his eyes to heaven; but he beathis breast and said, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner."
14 In verità vi dico, che questo pubblicano tornò a casa giustificato da questo Fariseo; imperò che chi si esalta, sarà umiliato; e chi si umilia, sarà esaltato.	14 This man, I tell you, went home again justified; the other did not. For everyone who raises himself upwil be humbled, but anyone who humbles himself wil be raised up.'
15 Al quale etiam portavano gli fanciulli acciò gli toccasse. La quale cosa vedendo gli discepoli, riprendevano quelli.	15 People even brought babies to him, for him to touch them; but when the disciples saw this theyscolded them.
16 Ma Iesù, chiamando a sè quelli, disse: lasciate venire li fanciulli a me, e non li vogliate vietare; imperò che di tali è il regno di Dio.	16 But Jesus cal ed the children to him and said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not stopthem; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.
17 In verità vi dico: qualunque non ricoglierà il regno di Dio come fauciullo, egli non entrarà in quello.	17 In truth I tell you, anyone who does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enterit.'
18 E uno principe il dimandò, dicendo: maestro buono, che facendo possederò vita eterna?	18 One of the rulers put this question to him, 'Good Master, what shal I do to inherit eternal life?'
19 E dissegli Iesù: il perchè mi dici buono? Nullo è buono, salvo solo Iddio.	19 Jesus said to him, 'Why do you cal me good? No one is good but God alone.
20 Tu hai conosciuto (e saputo) li comandamenti: non ucciderai, non adulterarai, non farai furto, non dicerai falso testimonio; onora il tuo padre e la madre.	20 You know the commandments: You shal not commit adultery; You shal not kil ; You shall not steal;You shal not give false witness; Honour your father and your mother.'
21 Ed egli disse: tutte queste cose ho osservato dalla mia gioventù.	21 He replied, 'I have kept all these since my earliest days.'
22 La quale cosa udita ch' ebbe Iesù, dissegli: ancora a te manca a fare una cosa; vendi tutte le cose che tu hai, e dalle a' poveri; e averai il tesauro in cielo; e vieni, e sèguita me.	22 And when Jesus heard this he said, 'There is stil one thing you lack. Sell everything you own anddistribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.'
23 Quello, udite queste parole, fu (molto) contristato, imperò ch' egli era molto ricco.	23 But when he heard this he was overcome with sadness, for he was very rich.
24 Ma vedendo Iesù, essere fatto molto tristo (e melinconioso) disse: con quanta difficoltà entraranno nel regno di Dio coloro che hanno le pecunie!	24 Jesus looked at him and said, 'How hard it is for those who have riches to make their way into thekingdom of God!
25 Certo egli è più facile a uno cammello passare per lo forame dell' ago, che al ricco entrare nel regno di Dio.	25 Yes, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for someone rich to enter thekingdom of God.'
26 E quelli che udivano dissero e chi potrà essere salvo?	26 Those who were listening said, 'In that case, who can be saved?'
27 Ed egli li disse: quelle cose che sono impossibili appresso degli uomini, sono possibili appresso Iddio.	27 He replied, 'Things that are impossible by human resources, are possible for God.'
28 Onde disse Pietro: ecco che noi abbiamo lassato ogni cosa, e abbiamo te seguitato.	28 But Peter said, 'Look, we left al we had to follow you.'
29 Ed egli li disse: in verità vi dico che non è alcuno che lasci la casa, ovvero padre e madre, fratelli e moglie e figliuoli, per amore del regno di Dio,	29 He said to them, 'In truth I tel you, there is no one who has left house, wife, brothers, parents orchildren for the sake of the kingdom of God
30 ch' egli non riceva molto più in questo tempo, e poscia nel venturo mondo vita eterna.	30 who will not receive many times as much in this present age and, in the world to come, eternal life.'
31 Ed egli tolse gli dodici discepoli, e disse: ecco che ascendiamo in Ierusalem, e compiransi tutte le cose le quali sono scritte per li profeti del Figliuolo della vergine.	31 Then taking the Twelve aside he said to them, 'Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everythingthat is written by the prophets about the Son of man is to come true.
32 E sarà tradito, e posto in mano delle genti, e sarà schernito e sputacchiato e flagellato.	32 For he wil be handed over to the gentiles and wil be mocked, maltreated and spat on,
33 E poi che l'aranno flagellato, uccideranlo; e il terzo giorno resuscitarà.	33 and when they have scourged him they will put him to death; and on the third day he will rise again.'
34 Ed egli nulla intesero di quelle cose; imperò che quello parlare era a loro nascosto, e non intendevano quello che Iesù diceva.	34 But they could make nothing of this; what he said was quite obscure to them, they did not understandwhat he was tel ing them.
35 E detto ch' ebbe Iesù queste cose, s' appressò in Gerico; e uno cieco sedeva a lato alla via, che mendicava.	35 Now it happened that as he drew near to Jericho there was a blind man sitting at the side of the roadbegging.
36 E udendo la turba che passava, dimandò che fusse questo.	36 When he heard the crowd going past he asked what it was all about,
37 Ed egli dissero ch' era Iesù Nazareno che passava.	37 and they told him that Jesus the Nazarene was passing by.
38 E quello incominciò a gridare, e a dicere: Iesù, figliuolo di David, abbi misericordia di me.	38 So he called out, 'Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me.'
39 E quelli che andavano dinanzi riprendevanlo, e dicevangli che stesse quieto. E quello più forte gridava, e diceva: figliuolo di David, abbi misericordia di me.	39 The people in front scolded him and told him to keep quiet, but he only shouted al the louder, 'Son ofDavid, have pity on me.'
40 E Iesù ristette, e comandò che gli fosse menato dinanzi. E appressandosi a lui, dimandollo	40 Jesus stopped and ordered them to bring the man to him, and when he came up, asked him,
41 che voleva che facesse. E quel disse: Signore, ch' io veda.	41 'What do you want me to do for you?' 'Sir,' he replied, 'let me see again.'
42 E Iesù gli disse: riguarda (in me, imperò che) la fede tua ti ha fatto salvo.	42 Jesus said to him, 'Receive your sight. Your faith has saved you.'
43 E sùbito vide lume, e seguitollo, e magnificava Iddio. E ogni uomo, vedendo quello, dètte laude a Dio.	43 And instantly his sight returned and he fol owed him praising God, and al the people who saw it gavepraise to God.
