Proverbi 1

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Queste sono le parabole di Salomone, figliuolo del re David,	1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
2 per dare sapienza e disciplina,	2 for learning what wisdom and discipline are, for understanding words of deep meaning,
3 per intender le parole della prudenza, e per ricever verace dottrina, giustizia, giudicio ed equità,	3 for acquiring a disciplined insight, uprightness, justice and fair dealing;
4 acciò che a' fanciulli sia dato astuzia, e a' giovani scienza e intendimento.	4 for teaching sound judgement to the simple, and knowledge and reflection to the young;
5 Udendo l'uomo savio, si farà più savio; e appararà di gubernare (sua vita e l'altrui).	5 Let the wise listen and learn yet more, and a person of discernment wil acquire the art of guidance.
6 Considerarà le parabole e la interpretazione, le parole de' savii e gli loro parlari oscuri.	6 for perceiving the meaning of proverbs and obscure sayings, the sayings of the sages and their riddles.
7 Lo principio della sapienza è il timore di Dio. Ma i stulti spregiano la dottrina e la sapienza.	7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; fools spurn wisdom and discipline.
8 O figliuolo, audi la disciplina (e la correzione). del tuo padre, e non spregiare la legge della madre tua,	8 Listen, my child, to your father's instruction, do not reject your mother's teaching:
9 acciò ch' egli creschi grazia al capo tuo, e orni il collo tuo.	9 they wil be a crown of grace for your head, a circlet for your neck.
10 Figliuolo mio, se gli uomini peccatori ti persuaderanno agli loro errori, non consentire a loro.	10 My child, if sinners try to seduce you, do not go with them.
11 Se diranno: vieni con noi, e mettiamo agguato contra la vita d' altrui, e poniamo secretamente i lacci contra allo innocente senza colpa (ovver sua cagione);	11 If they say, 'Come with us: let us lie in ambush to shed blood; if we plan an ambush for the innocentwithout provocation,
12 deglutiamolo vivo, come fa lo inferno, e trattiamolo come degno di morte;	12 we can swal ow them alive, like Sheol, and whole, like those who sink into oblivion.
13 e poi prenderemo il suo avere, e le sue cose metteremo nelle nostre case (egli è molto ricco);	13 We shal find treasures of every sort, we shall fil our houses with plunder;
14 ora accempàgnati con noi, e tutto il guadagno sia nostro a comune;	14 throw in your lot with us: one purse between us al .'
15 figliuolo mio, non andare appresso a cotal gente, e guàrdati dalle loro vie.	15 My child, do not fol ow them in their way, keep your steps out of their path
16 Però che non intendono se non a far male, e non vogliono se non spander sangue (e uccider gente).	16 for their feet hasten to evil, they are quick to shed blood;
17 Ma vanamente si tendono le reti dinanzi degli uomini prudenti.	17 for the net is spread in vain if any winged creature can see it.
18 Ma in verità peccano contra a loro stessi, e fanno malizie contro a loro anime.	18 It is for their own blood such people lie in wait, their ambush is against their own selves!
19 Cotali sono le vie di tutti gli avari; molte cose penserà l'avaro, come possi acquistare l'avere delle genti.	19 Such are the paths of al who seek dishonest gain: which robs of their lives al who take it for their own.
20 La sapienza prèdica (e grida) ne' luoghi manifesti, e nelle piazze estende la voce sua.	20 Wisdom cal s aloud in the streets, she raises her voice in the public squares;
21 (Con frequenza) grida dove si còngregano le turbe; nelle porte della città chiama in alto, e dice:	21 she cal s out at the street corners, she delivers her message at the city gates.
22 O voi, miei fanciulli, per che amate singularmente le cose puerili? e come stulti desiderate ciò che non vi giova? e come imprudenti avete in odio la scienza?	22 'You simple people, how much longer will you cling to your simple ways? How much longer willmockers revel in their mocking and fools go on hating knowledge?
23 Convertitevi (e ritornate) alla mia correzione; e io vi manifestarò la mia intelligenza, e dimostrerovvi (per esperimento) lo effetto delle mie parole.	23 Pay attention to my warning. To you I wil pour out my heart and tel you what I have to say.
24 Per che io vi chiamai, e voi vi faceste beffe di me; io stesi la mano mia, e non fu chi guardasse.	24 Since I have cal ed and you have refused me, since I have beckoned and no one has taken notice,
25 Avete spregiato ogni mio consiglio, e le reprensioni mie non avete estimate.	25 since you have ignored al my advice and rejected al my warnings,
26 Anche nella destruzione vostra me ne riderò; e spregiarovvi, quando vi intraverrà quello di che vi temevi.	26 I, for my part, shall laugh at your distress, I shal jeer when terror befal s you,
27 Quando caderete repentinamente in calamitade, e lo interito quasi come sùbita tempesta sopra di voi ruinerà; quando sopra voi verrà tribulazione e angustia (sùbito vi dispiacerà);	27 when terror befal s you, like a storm, when your distress arrives, like a whirlwind, when ordeal andanguish bear down on you.
28 allora mi chiameranno, e io non esaudirò; la mattina si leveranno, e non mi troveranno.	28 Then they will cal me, but I shal not answer, they wil look eagerly for me and will not find me.
29 Però che loro non mi volsero udire, e non curarono del timore di Dio;	29 They have hated knowledge, they have not chosen the fear of Yahweh,
30 nè si curorono del mio consiglio, e maledissero a tutte le mie correzioni.	30 they have taken no notice of my advice, they have spurned al my warnings:
31 Mangeranno de' frutti delle vie loro, e (delle opere) de' consigli loro si saziaranno.	31 so they wil have to eat the fruits of their own ways of life, and choke themselves with their ownscheming.
32 La opera de' fanciulli (e puerile) ucciderà loro, e la prosperità de' pazzi perderà loro.	32 For the errors of the simple lead to their death, the complacency of fools works their own ruin;
33 Qualunque mi udirà si riposerà senza paura; e (con delettazione) si riposerà nell' abbondanza, rimosso il timore de' cattivi.	33 but whoever listens to me may live secure, will have quiet, fearing no mischance.'
