BIBBIA VOLGARE	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 L'uomo nato della femina, vivente breve tempo, è ripieno di molte miserie.	1 Man, born of woman, living for a short time, is filled with many miseries.
2 Il quale come fiore viene, e conculcato è; fugge sì come ombra, e non rimane mai in uno medesimo stato.	2 He comes forth like a flower, and is crushed, and he flees, as if a shadow, and never remains in the same state.
3 E pensi esser cosa degna di aprire sopra cotal cosa gli occhii tuoi, e menarlo teco nel giudicio?	3 And do you consider it fitting to look down with your eyes on someone in this way and to lead him into judgment with you?
4 Chi puote fare la cosa monda, concetta del non mondo seme? Or non sei tu quello solo?	4 Who can make him clean who is conceived of unclean seed? Are you not the only one who can?
5 Brevi sono li di dell' uomo; lo numero delli mesi suoi è appresso te; e ordinasti li termini suoi, li quali non si poteranno trapassare.	5 The days of man are short, and the number of his months is with you; you have determined his limits, which cannot be surpassed.
6 Pàrtiti uno poco da lui, acciò ch' elli istia in riposo, insino che venghi il dì desiderato, e sì come del mercenaio siano li dì suoi.	6 Withdraw a little from him, so that he may rest, until his awaited day arrives, like that of the hired hand.
7 Lo legno ha speranza; se tagliato e' sarà, da capo si fa verde, e li rami suoi mettono li rampolli.	7 A tree has hope: if it has been cut, it turns green again, and its branches spring forth.
8 Se invecchierà nella terra la sua radice, e nella polvere morto sarà lo suo broccone,	8 If its roots grow old in the earth, and its trunk passes into dust,
9 all' odore dell' acque germinerae, e farae la moltitudine de' rami, quasi come di prima piantato era.	9 at the scent of water, it will sprout and bring forth leaves, as when it had first been planted.
10 Ma l' uomo, quando è morto, e sarae spogliato e consumato, domandatene, vi priego: dove lui è?	10 Truly, when a man dies, and has been left unprotected, and has decayed, I ask you where is he?
11 E come se si partissono l'acque del mare, e lo fiume fatto vôto si secca,	11 It is as if the waters had receded from the sea and an emptied river had dried up;
12 così l'uomo, quando morrà, non risusciterà; insino che il cielo sia attrito, non si sveglierae, nè non si leverae dal suo sonno.	12 just so, when a man is fallen asleep, he will not rise again, until the heavens are worn away; he will not awaken, nor rise from his sleep.
13 Chi mi darà questo, che in inferno tu mi difendi e nascondimi, infino che trapassi lo tuo furore, e òrdinimi il tempo nel quale tu ti ricordi di me?	13 Who will grant this to me, that you will protect me in the underworld, and hide me until your fury passes by, and establish a time for me, in which you will remember me?
14 E pensi tu, che morto l'uomo, un' altra volta viva? tutti i dì, ne' quali io ora cavalco, aspetto insino a tanto che venga la mia immutazione.	14 Do you suppose that a dead man will live again? On each of the days in which I now battle, I wait until my transformation occurs.
15 Chiamerae me, e io risponderò a te; allo lavorio delle tue mani porgerai la tua mano diritta.	15 You will call me and I will answer you; to the work of your hands, you will extend your right hand.
16 In veritade li andamenti miei annumerasti, ma perdona alli peccati miei.	16 Indeed, you have numbered my steps, but you have been lenient with my sins.
17 Segnasti quasi come nel sacculo li peccati miei, ma curasti la mia iniquitade.	17 You have sealed up my offenses, as if in a purse, but you have cured my iniquity.
18 Lo monte cadente scorrerà, e lo sasso sarà trasportato del suo luogo.	18 A falling mountain flows away, and a stone is transferred from its place.
19 Le acque cavano le pietre, e per la innondanza dell' acque a poco a poco la terra è consumata; e adunque li uomini similmente perderai.	19 Waters wear away stones, and with a flood the land is reduced little by little; and similarly, you will destroy man.
20 Fortificastilo uno poco, acciò che in perpetuo trapassasse; e immuterai la faccia sua, e manderai lui.	20 You have strengthened him for a little while, so that he may cross over into eternity. You will change his face and send him forth.
21 Ovvero se saranno nobili i suoi figliuoli, ovvero non nobili, non intenderà.	21 Whether his sons have been noble or ignoble, he will not understand.
22 Ma pure la carne sua, insino che viverà, sì dorrà; e l'anima sua sopra sè medesimo piangerà (sempre).	22 And in this way his body, while he yet lives, will have grief, and his soul will mourn over himself.
