| 1 Naaman, principe della milizia del re di Siria, era grande uomo appo il suo signore, ed era onorato; però che per lui il Signore avea data salute al re di Siria; ed era forte e ricco, ma era leproso. | 1 Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master and in high favor, because by him the LORD had given victory to Syria. He was a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper. |
| 2 E di Siria erano usciti ladroncelli, e aveano menato in pregione della terra d' Israel una fanciulla piccola, la quale era al servigio della moglie di Naaman. | 2 Now the Syrians on one of their raids had carried off a little maid from the land of Israel, and she waited on Naaman's wife. |
| 3 La quale disse alla donna sua: volesse Iddio, che il mio signore fosse col profeta il quale è in Samaria; veramente egli lo avrebbe curato dalla lepra, la qual' egli ha. | 3 She said to her mistress, "Would that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy." |
| 4 Ed entrando lui [Naaman] al signore suo, dissegli e nunciogli: così e così ha detto una fanciulla della terra d' Israel. | 4 So Naaman went in and told his lord, "Thus and so spoke the maiden from the land of Israel." |
| 5 E disse il re di Siria: va, e io manderò lettere al re d' Israel. Il quale partitosi, e portato seco dieci talenti d'ariento, e seimilia denari d'oro, e X robbe, | 5 And the king of Syria said, "Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel." So he went, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten festal garments. |
| 6 portò lettere al re d' Israel in queste parole: quando tu riceverai questa lettera, sappi ch' io mando a te Naaman mio servo, perchè tu il curi della sua lepra. | 6 And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, which read, "When this letter reaches you, know that I have sent to you Naaman my servant, that you may cure him of his leprosy." |
| 7 E letta la lettera, [il re d' Israel] squarciò le sue vestimenta, e disse: sono io Iddio, ch' io possa uccidere e vivificare, che costui ha mandato a me, ch' io curi uno uomo della sua lepra? attendete e vedete ch' egli va cercando cagione contro a me. | 7 And when the king of Israel read the letter, he rent his clothes and said, "Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Only consider, and see how he is seeking a quarrel with me." |
| 8 La quale cosa udita Eliseo, uomo di Dio, cioè che il re d' Israel avea squarciate le vestimenta sue, mandogli dicendo: perchè hai tu squarciate le vestimenta tue? vegna a me, e sappia ch' egli è profeta in Israel. | 8 But when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, "Why have you rent your clothes? Let him come now to me, that he may know that there is a prophet in Israel." |
| 9 Onde venne Naaman con carri e con cavalli, e istette dinanzi all' uscio della casa di Eliseo. | 9 So Naaman came with his horses and chariots, and halted at the door of Elisha's house. |
| 10 Ed Eliseo gli mandò dicendo: va, e làvati sette volte nel Giordano, e la tua carne riceverà sanità, e sarai mondato. | 10 And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean." |
| 11 Irato Naaman partivasi, dicendo: io pensava ch' egli uscisse a me, e stando invocasse il nome del suo Signore Iddio (sopra di me), e con la sua mano toccasse il luogo della lepra, e che mi curasse. | 11 But Naaman was angry, and went away, saying, "Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place, and cure the leper. |
| 12 Non sono egli migliori Abana e Farfar fiumi di Damasco, che tutte l'acque d' Israel, ch' io mi lavi in quelle, e diventi mondo? Ed essendo volto con indegnazione, | 12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them, and be clean?" So he turned and went away in a rage. |
| 13 andàronsene a lui i servi suoi, e dissero a lui: padre, se il profeta t'avesse detto uno grande fatto, certo tu il dovresti fare; quanto maggiormente che t'ha detto ora: làvati, e sarai mondato? | 13 But his servants came near and said to him, "My father, if the prophet had commanded you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much rather, then, when he says to you, 'Wash, and be clean'?" |
| 14 Onde che egli discese, e lavossi nel Giordano sette volte, secondo la parola che gli avea detta l'uomo di Dio; e ritornò la sua carne sì come d'uno piccolo fanciullo, e fu mondato (dalla lepra). | 14 So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. |
| 15 E tornò all' uomo di Dio, e con tutta la sua compagnia venne e istette dinanzi a lui, e disse: veramente so che non è altro Iddio in tutta la terra, salvo in Israel; or ti priego, che tu tolghi la benedizione del tuo servo. | 15 Then he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and he came and stood before him; and he said, "Behold, I know that there is no God in all the earth but in Israel; so accept now a present from your servant." |
| 16 Ed egli respuose: vive il Signore nel cui cospetto io sto, che non torrò nulla. E facendogli forza, per niun modo consentì. | 16 But he said, "As the LORD lives, whom I serve, I will receive none." And he urged him to take it, but he refused. |
| 17 E Naaman disse: sia come tu vogli, ma io tuo servo ti prego, che mi concedi ch' io tolga il carico di due muli di questa terra; però che il tuo servo di quinci innanzi non farà sacrificio ad altro Iddio, se non al Signore. | 17 Then Naaman said, "If not, I pray you, let there be given to your servant two mules' burden of earth; for henceforth your servant will not offer burnt offering or sacrifice to any god but the LORD. |
| 18 Questo solo ci è, che tu prieghi Iddio per lo tuo servo; quando il signore mio entra nel tempio di Remmon per adorare, ed egli riposando nelle mie mani, se io adorerò nel tempio di Remmon, adorando lui in quello medesimo luogo, acciò che il Signore perdoni a me per questa cosa. | 18 In this matter may the LORD pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, leaning on my arm, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon your servant in this matter." |
| 19 Il quale disse a lui: va in pace. E partissi da lui, eletto il tempo della terra. | 19 He said to him, "Go in peace." But when Naaman had gone from him a short distance, |
| 20 E Giezi servigiale dell' uomo di Dio disse: il mio signore ha perdonato a questo Naaman Siro, non togliendo quelle cose ch' egli recò; vive il Signore, ch' io correrò dopo lui, e torrò alcuna cosa da lui. | 20 Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, "See, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not accepting from his hand what he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him, and get something from him." |
| 21 E andò Giezi dopo Naaman; il quale veggendo correre dopo sè, discese dal carro, e vennegli ricontro, e disse: sono tutte le cose diritte? | 21 So Gehazi followed Naaman. And when Naaman saw some one running after him, he alighted from the chariot to meet him, and said, "Is all well?" |
| 22 E quegli respuose: tutte le cose sono diritte; e il mio signore mi manda, e dice: ora sono venuti a me due giovani, figliuoli di profeti, del monte d'Efraim, manda loro uno talento d'ariento e doppie vestimenta da mutare. | 22 And he said, "All is well. My master has sent me to say, 'There have just now come to me from the hill country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets; pray, give them a talent of silver and two festal garments.'" |
| 23 E disse Naaman: meglio è che tu togli due talenti (d' ariento). E sforzollo, e legò due talenti d'ariento in due sacca, e doppie vestimenta, e puosele su due suoi fanti; e quegli li portavano dinanzi a lui. | 23 And Naaman said, "Be pleased to accept two talents." And he urged him, and tied up two talents of silver in two bags, with two festal garments, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they carried them before Gehazi. |
| 24 E venuto egli già a ora di vespero, tolse queste cose, e ripuosele in casa; e lasciò quegli uomini, e andàronsene. | 24 And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and put them in the house; and he sent the men away, and they departed. |
| 25 Ed egli entrando istette dinanzi al suo signore. E disse Eliseo: onde vieni tu, Giezi? Ed egli respuose: il servo tuo non è stato in luoco alcuno. | 25 He went in, and stood before his master, and Elisha said to him, "Where have you been, Gehazi?" And he said, "Your servant went nowhere." |
| 26 E lui disse: non era il cor mio presente, quando tornò Naaman del carro contra a te? E tu togliesti l'ariento e le vestimenta, a ciò che comperi vigne e uliveti [e pecore] e buoi e servi e serve. | 26 But he said to him, "Did I not go with you in spirit when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Was it a time to accept money and garments, olive orchards and vineyards, sheep and oxen, menservants and maidservants? |
| 27 Ma la lepra di Naaman sarà in te, e nel tuo seme in sempiterno. E uscì da lui leproso e bianco come neve. | 27 Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cleave to you, and to your descendants for ever." So he went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow. |
