| 2 חסד ושלום יהיו לכם למכביר בדעת האלהים וישוע אדנינו | 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of our Lord. |
| 3 באשר גבורתו האלהית נתנה לנו את כל אשר לחיים ולחסידות על ידי דעת הקורא אתנו בכבודו וחילו | 3 By his divine power, he has lavished on us all the things we need for life and for true devotion, throughthe knowledge of him who has called us by his own glory and goodness. |
| 4 אשר בהם נתן לנו הבטחות גדלות מאד ויקרות למען תקחו על ידן חלק בטבע אלהים בהמלטכם מכליון התאוה אשר בעולם | 4 Through these, the greatest and priceless promises have been lavished on us, that through them youshould share the divine nature and escape the corruption rife in the world through disordered passion. |
| 5 בעבור זאת השתדלו להעמיד באמונתכם את הצדקה ובצדקה את הדעת | 5 With this in view, do your utmost to support your faith with goodness, goodness with understanding, |
| 6 ובדעת את הפרישות ובפרישות את הסבלנות ובסבלנות את החסידות | 6 understanding with self-control, self-control with perseverance, perseverance with devotion, |
| 7 ובחסידות את האחוה ובאחוה את האהבה | 7 devotion with kindness to the brothers, and kindness to the brothers with love. |

| 10 לכן אחי הוסיפו והשתדלו לחזק את קריאתכם ובחירתכם כי בעשותכם זאת כשול לא תכשלו | 10 Instead of this, brothers, never allow your choice or cal ing to waver; then there wil be no danger ofyour stumbling, |
| 11 כי כן יפתח לפניכם לרוחה המבוא אל מלכות עולם אשר לאדנינו ומושיענו ישוע המשיח | 11 for in this way you wil be given the generous gift of entry to the eternal kingdom of our Lord andSaviour Jesus Christ. |
| 12 על כן לא אחדל להזכירכם על אלה בכל עת גם כי ידעתם והתכוננתם באמת אשר היא לפנינו | 12 That is why I wil always go on recal ing the same truths to you, even though you already know themand are firmly fixed in these truths. |
| 13 ואחשב כי נכון להזכיר ולהעיר אתכם כל ימי היותי במשכן הזה | 13 I am sure it is my duty, as long as I am in this tent, to keep stirring you up with reminders, |
| 14 באשר ידעתי כי מהר יעתק משכני כאשר גם גלה לי אדנינו ישוע המשיח | 14 since I know the time for me to lay aside this tent is coming soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clearto me. |
| 15 ואשתדל שיהיה לכם תמיד גם אחרי פטירתי זכרון הדברים האלה | 15 And I shal take great care that after my own departure you will stil have a means to recal thesethings to mind. |
| 16 כי הודענו אתכם גבורת אדנינו ישוע המשיח ובאו לא בלכתנו אחרי הגדות מחכמות כי אם ראות היו עינינו את גדלתו | 16 When we told you about the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, we were not slavishlyrepeating cleverly invented myths; no, we had seen his majesty with our own eyes. |
| 17 כי לקח מאת אלהים האב יקר וכבוד בבא אליו קול מתוך הדרת כבודו לאמר זה בני ידידי רצתה נפשי בו | 17 He was honoured and glorified by God the Father, when a voice came to him from the transcendentGlory, This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. |
| 18 ואת הקול הזה שמענו באזנינו יצא משמים בהיותנו עמו בהר הקדש | 18 We ourselves heard this voice from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain. |
| 19 ועתה דבר הנבואה יותר קים אתנו והטיבתם עשות אשר שתם לבכם אליו כמו אל נר מאיר במקום אפל עד כי יבקע אור היום וזרח כוכב הנגה בלבבכם | 19 So we have confirmation of the words of the prophets; and you wil be right to pay attention to it as to a lamp for lighting a way through the dark, until the dawn comes and the morning star rises in your minds. |
| 20 וזאת תדעו ראשונה אשר כל נבואת המקרא איננה תלה בפתרון אדם מלבו | 20 At the same time, we must recognise that the interpretation of scriptural prophecy is never a matter forthe individual. |
| 21 כי מעולם לא יצאה נבואה ברצון האדם כי אם ברוח הקדש אשר נשאם דברו אנשי אלהים הקדושים | 21 For no prophecy ever came from human initiative. When people spoke for God it was the Holy Spiritthat moved them. |
