BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Salomón señaló 70.000 hombres para transportar cargas, 80.000 canteros en el monte y 3.600 capataces para ellos.	1 And Solomon allocated seventy thousand men to be porters and eighty thousand to quarry in the hillsand three thousand six hundred overseers for them.
2 Salomón envió a decir a Juram, rey de Tiro: «Haz conmigo como hiciste con mi padre David, enviándole maderas de cedro para que se construyera una casa en que habitar.	2 And Solomon sent this message to Huram king of Tyre, 'Do as you did for my father David when yousent him cedars for him to build himself a palace to live in.
3 Te hago saber que voy a edificar una Casa al Nombre de Yahveh, mi Dios, para consagrársela, para quemar ante él incienso aromático, para la ofrenda perpetua de los panes presentados, y para los holocaustos de la mañana y de la tarde, de los sábados, novilunios y solemnidades de Yahveh nuestro Dios, como se hace siempre en Israel.	3 You see, I am building a house for the name of Yahweh my God, to acknowledge his holiness so thatperfumed incense may be burnt before him, the loaves of permanent offering be perpetual y laid out and theburnt offerings be made morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, New Moons and solemn festivals of Yahwehour God, as prescribed to Israel for ever;
4 La Casa que voy a edificar será grande, porque nuestro Dios es mayor que todos los dioses.	4 and the house which I am building must be large, for our God is greater than al gods;
5 Pero ¿quién será capaz de construirle una Casa, cuando los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no pueden contenerle? ¿Y quién soy yo para edificarle una Casa, aunque esté destinada tan sólo para quemar incienso en su presencia?	5 even so, who would not find it an impossible task to build a house for him, when the heavens and theheavens of the heavens cannot contain him? 6 Envíame, pues, un hombre diestro en trabajar el oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, la púrpura escarlata, el carmesí y la púrpura violeta, y que sepa grabar; estará con los expertos que tengo conmigo en Judá y en Jerusalén, y que mi padre David ya había preparado.	6 So now send me a man skil ed at working in gold, silver, bronze, iron, scarlet, crimson and violetmaterials, and who knows the art of engraving too; he is to work with my skil ed men in Judah and Jerusalem,whom my father David has provided.
7 Envíame también madera de cedro, de ciprés y algummim del Líbano; pues bien sé que tus siervos saben talar los árboles del Líbano, y mis siervos trabajarán con tus siervos,	7 Also send me cedar, juniper and algum trunks from the Lebanon, for I know that your servants knowthe art of fel ing timber in the Lebanon. And, my servants will work with your servants
8 para prepararme madera en abundancia; pues la Casa que voy a edificar ha de ser grande y maravillosa.	8 in preparing a vast quantity of timber for me, since the house which I intend to build is to be of a size tomarvel at.
9 Daré para el sustento de tus siervos, los taladores de los árboles, 20.000 cargas de trigo, 20.000 cargas de cebada, 20.000 medidas de vino y 20.000 medidas de aceite».	9 Furthermore, for the upkeep of the woodcutters whom you employ to cut the timber, I shal providetwenty thousand kor of wheat, twenty thousand kor of barley, twenty thousand bat of wine and twenty thousandbat of oil.'
10 Juram, rey de Tiro, respondió en una carta que envió al rey Salomón: «Por el amor que tiene Yahveh a su pueblo te ha hecho rey sobre ellos».	10 In a letter sent to King Solomon, Huram king of Tyre replied, 'Because Yahweh loves his people hehas made you their king!'
11 Y añadía Juram: «Bendito sea Yahveh, el Dios de Israel, hacedor del cielo y de la tierra, que ha dado al rey David un hijo sabio, prudente e inteligente, que edificará una Casa a Yahveh y una casa real para sí.	11 Huram went on to say, 'Praised be Yahweh, God of Israel, who made heaven and earth and has givenKing David a wise son, endowed with discretion and discernment, to build a house for Yahweh and a palace inwhich to reign!-
12 Te envío, pues, ahora a Juram Abí, hombre hábil, dotado de inteligencia;	12 I am now sending you a skil ed and intelligent man, Huram-Abi
13 es hijo de una danita, y su padre es de Tiro. Sabe trabajar el oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, la piedra y la madera, la púrpura escarlata, la púrpura violeta, el lino fino y el carmesí. Sabe también hacer toda clase de grabados y ejecutar cualquier obra que se le proponga, a una con tus artífices y los artífices de mi señor David, tu padre.	13 the son of a Danite woman by a Tyrian father. He knows the arts of working in gold, silver, bronze,iron, stone, wood, scarlet, violet, fine linen and crimson materials, and is competent to carry out any kind ofengraving and to execute any design which may be entrusted to him, in col aboration with your skilled men andthose of my lord David, your father.
14 Que mande, pues, a sus siervos el trigo, la cebada, el aceite y el vino de que ha hablado mi señor,	14 'So now let my lord send his servants the wheat, barley, oil and wine as promised
15 y por nuestra parte cortaremos del Líbano toda la madera que necesites y te la llevaremos en balsas, por mar, hasta Joppe, y luego tú mandarás que la suban a Jerusalén».	15 and we wil fel all the wood you need from Lebanon, and bring it you in rafts by sea to Jaffa; and it wilbe your responsibility to transport it to Jerusalem.'
16 Salomón hizo el censo de todos los forasteros residentes en Israel, tomando por modelo el censo que había hecho su padre David; y se halló que eran 153.600.	16 Solomon then took a census of al the aliens resident in Israel similar to the census which his fatherDavid had taken; it was found that there were a hundred and fifty-three thousand six hundred.
17 De ellos destinó 70.000 para el transporte de cargas, 80.000 para las canteras en las montañas y 3.600 como capataces para hacer trabajar al pueblo.	17 He impressed seventy thousand of them as porters, eighty thousand as quarrymen in the hil s andthree thousand six hundred as overseers to make sure the people worked.
