1 Salomón señaló 70.000 hombres para transportar cargas, 80.000 canteros en el monte y 3.600 capataces para ellos.	1 And Solomon determined to build a house to the name of the Lord, and a palace for himself.
2 Salomón envió a decir a Juram, rey de Tiro: «Haz conmigo como hiciste con mi padre David, enviándole maderas de cedro para que se construyera una casa en que habitar.	2 And he numbered out seventy thousand men to bear burdens, and eighty thousand to hew stones in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them.
3 Te hago saber que voy a edificar una Casa al Nombre de Yahveh, mi Dios, para consagrársela, para quemar ante él incienso aromático, para la ofrenda perpetua de los panes presentados, y para los holocaustos de la mañana y de la tarde, de los sábados, novilunios y solemnidades de Yahveh nuestro Dios, como se hace siempre en Israel.	3 He sent also to Hiram king of Tyre, saying: As thou didst with David my father, and didst send him cedars, to build him a house, in which he dwelt:
4 La Casa que voy a edificar será grande, porque nuestro Dios es mayor que todos los dioses.	4 So do with me that I may build a house to the name of the Lord my God, to dedicate it to burn incense before him, and to perfume with aromatical spices, and for the continual setting forth of bread, and for the holocausts, morning and evening, and on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and the solemnities of the Lord our God for ever, which are commanded for Israel.
5 Pero ¿quién será capaz de construirle una Casa, cuando los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no pueden contenerle? ¿Y quién soy yo para edificarle una Casa, aunque esté destinada tan sólo para quemar incienso en su presencia?	5 For the house which I desire to build, is great: for our God is great above all gods.
6 Envíame, pues, un hombre diestro en trabajar el oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, la púrpura escarlata, el carmesí y la púrpura violeta, y que sepa grabar; estará con los expertos que tengo conmigo en Judá y en Jerusalén, y que mi padre David ya había preparado.	6 Who then can be able to build him a worthy house? if heaven, and the heavens of heavens cannot contain him: who am I that I should be able to build him a house? but to this end only, that incense may be burnt before him.
7 Envíame también madera de cedro, de ciprés y algummim del Líbano; pues bien sé que tus siervos saben talar los árboles del Líbano, y mis siervos trabajarán con tus siervos,	7 Send me therefore a skilful man, that knoweth how to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, and in iron, in purple, in scarlet and in blue, and that hath skill in engraving, with the artificers, which I have with me in Judea and Jerusalem, whom David my father provided.
8 para prepararme madera en abundancia; pues la Casa que voy a edificar ha de ser grande y maravillosa.	8 Send me also cedars, and fir trees, and pine trees from Libanus: for I know that thy servants are skilful in cutting timber in Libanus, and my servants shall be with thy servants,
9 Daré para el sustento de tus siervos, los taladores de los árboles, 20.000 cargas de trigo, 20.000 cargas de cebada, 20.000 medidas de vino y 20.000 medidas de aceite».	9 To provide me timber in abundance. For the house which I desire to build, is to be exceeding great, and glorious.
10 Juram, rey de Tiro, respondió en una carta que envió al rey Salomón: «Por el amor que tiene Yahveh a su pueblo te ha hecho rey sobre ellos».	10 And I will give thy servants the workmen that are to cut down the trees, for their food twenty thousand cores of wheat, and as many cores of barley, and twenty thousand measures of wine, and twenty thousand measures of oil.
11 Y añadía Juram: «Bendito sea Yahveh, el Dios de Israel, hacedor del cielo y de la tierra, que ha dado al rey David un hijo sabio, prudente e inteligente, que edificará una Casa a Yahveh y una casa real para sí.	11 And Hiram king of Tyre sent a letter to Solomon, saying: Because the Lord hath loved his people, therefore he hath made thee king over them.
12 Te envío, pues, ahora a Juram Abí, hombre hábil, dotado de inteligencia;	12 And he added, saying: Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who hath given to king David a wise and knowing son, endued with understanding and prudence, to build a house to the Lord, and a palace for himself.
13 es hijo de una danita, y su padre es de Tiro. Sabe trabajar el oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, la piedra y la madera, la púrpura escarlata, la púrpura violeta, el lino fino y el carmesí. Sabe también hacer toda clase de grabados y ejecutar cualquier obra que se le proponga, a una con tus artífices y los artífices de mi señor David, tu padre.	13 I therefore have sent thee my father Hiram, a wise and most skilful man,
14 Que mande, pues, a sus siervos el trigo, la cebada, el aceite y el vino de que ha hablado mi señor,	14 The son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, whose father was a Tyrian, who knoweth how to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, and in iron, and in marble, and in timber, in purple also, and violet, and silk and scarlet: and who knoweth to grave all sort of graving, and to devise ingeniously all that there may be need of in the work with thy artificers, and with the artificers of my lord David thy father.
15 y por nuestra parte cortaremos del Líbano toda la madera que necesites y te la llevaremos en balsas, por mar, hasta Joppe, y luego tú mandarás que la suban a Jerusalén».	15 The wheat therefore, and the barley and the oil, and the wine, which thou, my lord, hast promised, send to thy servants.
16 Salomón hizo el censo de todos los forasteros residentes en Israel, tomando por modelo el censo que había hecho su padre David; y se halló que eran 153.600.	16 And we will cut down as many trees out of Libanus, as thou shalt want, and will convey them in floats by sea to Joppe: and it will be thy part to bring them thence to Jerusalem.
17 De ellos destinó 70.000 para el transporte de cargas, 80.000 para las canteras en las montañas y 3.600 como capataces para hacer trabajar al pueblo.	17 And Solomon numbered all the proselytes in the land of Israel, after the numbering which David his father had made, and they were found a hundred and fifty-three thousand and six hundred.
	18 And he set seventy thousand of them to carry burdens on their shoulders, and eighty thousand to hew stones in the mountains: and three thousand and six hundred to be overseers of the work of the people.
