Epistola di Santo Paulo alli Efesini 2

1 E conciosia che voi foste morti nelli vostri peccati,	1 And you were dead, through the crimes and the sins
2 ne' quali andaste in qua drieto secondo il secolo di questo mondo, e secondo il principe della potestà di questa aria, il quale spirito adopera sopra li figliuoli che non son fedeli,	2 which used to make up your way of life when you were living by the principles of this world, obeying theruler who dominates the air, the spirit who is at work in those who rebel.
3 intra li quali noi in qua drieto conversammo ne' desiderii della carne nostra, facendo le volontà della carne e delli pensieri, ed eravamo di natura figliuoli dell' ira, secondo che li altri;	3 We too were al among them once, living only by our natural inclinations, obeying the demands ofhuman self-indulgence and our own whim; our nature made us no less liable to God's retribution than the rest ofthe world.
4 ma Dio, il quale è ricco di misericordia, per la grande sua carità, nella quale amò noi,	4 But God, being rich in faithful love, through the great love with which he loved us,
5 ed essendo noi morti per li peccati, fece noi vivi in Cristo, per la cui grazia voi siete salvati;	5 even when we were dead in our sins, brought us to life with Christ -- it is through grace that you havebeen saved-
6 e insieme resuscitò noi, e fece noi sedere nelle celestiali cose in Cristo salvatore,	6 and raised us up with him and gave us a place with him in heaven, in Christ Jesus.
7 per dimostrare nelli secoli che debbeno venire le divizie abbondevoli della sua grazia con bontà di sopra a noi in Cristo Iesù.	7 This was to show for al ages to come, through his goodness towards us in Christ Jesus, howextraordinarily rich he is in grace.
8 Certo per grazia siete salvati nella fede; e questo non è per vostra bontà, ma è dono di Dio.	8 Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; not by anything of your own, but by agift from God;
9 E non è per opere (che son fatte), perchè alcuno non si glorifichi.	9 not by anything that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit.
10 Certo noi siamo fattura sua, creati con buone opere in Iesù Cristo, le quali buone opere Dio apparecchiò (a noi) perchè noi andiamo in esse.	10 We are God's work of art, created in Christ Jesus for the good works which God has alreadydesignated to make up our way of life.
11 Per la qual cosa ricordatevi che in qua dietro voi eravate pagani in carne, ed eravate chiamati non circoncisi da quella detta circoncisione, fatta in carne con le mani.	11 Do not forget, then, that there was a time when you who were gentiles by physical descent, termed theuncircumcised by those who speak of themselves as the circumcised by reason of a physical operation,
12 Ed eravate in quel tempo senza Cristo, e partiti dalla conversazione (delli figliuoli) d' Israel, ed eravate senza il testamento della promissione (di Dio), non avendo speranza; ed eravate in questo mondo senza Dio.	12 do not forget, I say, that you were at that time separate from Christ and excluded from membership ofIsrael, aliens with no part in the covenants of the Promise, limited to this world, without hope and without God.
13 Ma ora voi, che in qua drieto eravate da lungi, siete fatti presso nel sangue di Cristo.	13 But now in Christ Jesus, you that used to be so far off have been brought close, by the blood of Christ.
14 Chè egli è la nostra pace, il quale fece una cosa l' una parte e l'altra, e destrusse il muro delle pietre, il quale era nel mezzo tra noi, nella sua carne sciogliendo la nimistà (del peccato),	14 For he is the peace between us, and has made the two into one entity and broken down the barrierwhich used to keep them apart, by destroying in his own person the hostility,
15 evacuando la legge de' comandamenti con li decreti; e fece in sè stesso concorde la pace, due in uno nuovo uomo in sè medesimo,	15 that is, the Law of commandments with its decrees. His purpose in this was, by restoring peace, tocreate a single New Man out of the two of them,
16 per ricomperare amendue (li popoli) in uno corpo a Dio per la croce, distruggendo le nimistà in sè medesimo.	16 and through the cross, to reconcile them both to God in one Body; in his own person he kil ed thehostility.
17 E venendo predicò la pace a voi ch' eravate dalla lunga, e la pace a quelli ch' erano da presso.	17 He came to bring the good news of peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.
18 Imperò che per lui avemo andamento amendue con Spirito al Padre.	18 Through him, then, we both in the one Spirit have free access to the Father.
19 Adunque già non siete forestieri e ospiti; ma siete cittadini de' santi, e domestichi di Dio.	19 So you are no longer aliens or foreign visitors; you are fel ow-citizens with the holy people of God andpart of God's household.
20 E siete edificati (e formati) sopra il fondamento degli apostoli e de' profeti, stando in Iesù Cristo, fermo cantone di pietra.	20 You are built upon the foundations of the apostles and prophets, and Christ Jesus himself is thecornerstone.
21 Sopra il quale ogni opera che vi s'innalzerà, sì è nel Signore in santo tempio.	21 Every structure knit together in him grows into a holy temple in the Lord;
22 Sopra il quale voi siete edificati, secondo che abitazione di Dio nel Spirito Santo.	22 and you too, in him, are being built up into a dwelling-place of God in the Spirit.
