BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Nel primo anno di Baltassar, re di Babilonia, Daniele vidde uno sogno; la visione del capo suo fu nel suo letto; e scrivendo il suo sogno, lo comprese con brevi parole; e perstringendolo in somma, disse:	1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions that passed through hishead as he lay in bed. He wrote the dream down, and this is how the narrative began:
2 Io vedea nella mia visione, di notte; ed ecco, quattro venti del cielo combatteano nel mare grande.	2 Daniel said, 'I have been seeing visions in the night. I saw that the four winds of heaven were stirring upthe Great Sea;
3 E quattro bestie grandi salivano del mare, diverse fra loro.	3 four great beasts emerged from the sea, each different from the others.
4 La prima era simile quasi alla leonessa, e avea l'ale d'aquila; io guardava per sino che li fu cavate l'ale sue, e tolta è della terra, e stette sopra li piedi suoi come uomo, e fugli dato lo cuore d'uomo.	4 The first was like a lion with eagle's wings and, as I looked, its wings were torn off, and it was lifted offthe ground and set standing on its feet like a human; and it was given a human heart.
5 Ed ecco, una altra bestia simile all' orso in parte stette; ed era tre ordini di denti nella bocca sua, e dicevano così a lei: lèvati su, manuca molte carni.	5 And there before me was a second beast, like a bear, rearing up on one side, with three ribs in itsmouth, between its teeth. "Up!" came the command. "Eat quantities of flesh!"
6 Dopo io guardava; ed ecco, una altra come leonpardo, e avea quattro ale sopra di sè, e quattro capi erano sopra la bestia, ed ègli data podestà.	6 After this I looked; and there before me was another beast, like a leopard, and with four bird's wings onits flanks; it had four heads and was granted authority.
7 E dopo questo guardava nella visione della notte; ed ecco la quarta bestia terribile e mirabile e molto forte; e avea i denti di ferro grandi, mangiando e minuzzando, e lo resto conculcava colli piedi; ed era dissimile dall' altre bestie, le quali avea vedute dinanzi a lei, e avea dieci corna.	7 Next, in the visions of the night, I saw another vision: there before me was a fourth beast, fearful,terrifying, very strong; it had great iron teeth, and it ate its victims, crushed them, and trampled their remainsunderfoot. It was different from the previous beasts and had ten horns.
8 Io considerava le corna; ed ecco, uno altro corno piccolo era nasciuto nel mezzo di loro; e tre de' primi corni furono cavati dinanzi a lui; ed ecco che in questo corno erano occhi, quasi simili agli occhi dell' uomo, e una bocca la qual parlava cose grandi.	8 'While I was looking at these horns, I saw another horn sprouting among them, a little one; three of theoriginal horns were pul ed out by the roots to make way for it; and in this horn I saw eyes like human eyes, and amouth ful of boasting.
9 E io guardava, persino che le sedie furono poste, e uno vecchio sedette; lo vestimento suo era bianco quasi come neve, e li capelli del suo capo erano quasi come lana monda; lo trono suo era di fiamma di fuoco; le ruote sue erano di fuoco acceso.	9 While I was watching, thrones were set in place and one most venerable took his seat. His robe waswhite as snow, the hair of his head as pure as wool. His throne was a blaze of flames, its wheels were a burningfire.
10 E uno fiume di color di fuoco e torrente usciva dalla faccia sua; migliaia di migliaia gli ministravano, e dieci volte mille centinaia di migliaia erano stanti nel conspetto suo: lo giudicio sedeo, e li libri sono aperti.	10 A stream of fire poured out, issuing from his presence. A thousand thousand waited on him, tenthousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was in session and the books lay open.
11 Io guardava per la voce delle gran parole, le quali quello corno parlava; e vidi che quella bestia fu morta, e lo corpo suo perì, ed era dato per abbruciare al fuoco.	11 'I went on watching: then, because of the noise made by the boastings of the horn, as I watched, thebeast was put to death, and its body destroyed and committed to the flames.
12 E dell' altre bestie era loro tolta la podestà, ed eran loro constituiti li tempi della vita persino al tempo e al tempo.	12 The other beasts were deprived of their empire, but received a lease of life for a season and a time.
13 Io guardava dunque alla visione della notte, ed ecco nelle nuvole del cielo veniva uno ch' era quasi figliuolo d' uomo; e venne persino a quello uomo antiquo; e offerirono lui nel conspetto suo.	13 I was gazing into the visions of the night, when I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, as it were ason of man. He came to the One most venerable and was led into his presence.
14 E diedeli podestà e onore e regno; e tutti i popoli, tribù e lingue serviranno a lui; e la sua podestà è podestà eterna la qual non si torrà, e il suo regno lo quale non si corromperà.	14 On him was conferred rule, honour and kingship, and all peoples, nations and languages became hisservants. His rule is an everlasting rule which wil never pass away, and his kingship wil never come to an end.
15 (E vedendo queste cose) spaventato molto è il mio spirito; e io Daniele rimasi in queste cose perso, e queste visioni del mio capo (molto) mi conturborono.	15 'I, Daniel, was deeply disturbed and the visions that passed through my head alarmed me.
16 (E dopo questo) mi accostai ad uno di quelli che istavano presenti, e cercava di saper da lui la verità di tutte queste cose. Lo qual mi disse la interpretazione de' sermoni, e insegnommi (e disse):	16 So I approached one of those who were standing by and asked him about al this. And in reply herevealed to me what these things meant.
17 Queste quattro bestie grandi sono quattro regni, i quali si leveranno sopra la terra.	17 "These four great beasts are four kings who will rise up from the earth.
18 E torranno il regno e' santi di Dio altissimo, insino nel secolo, e nel secolo de' secoli.	18 Those who receive royal power are the holy ones of the Most High, and kingship will be theirs for ever,for ever and ever."
19 Dopo questo io volsi diligentemente investigare della quarta bestia, la quale era molto dissimile dagli uomini, e molto terribile; li denti suoi e l' unghie sue erano di ferro; manucava e minuzzava, e lo residuo conculcava co' piedi.	19 Then I asked about the fourth beast, different from al the rest, very terrifying, with iron teeth andbronze claws; it ate its victims, crushed them, and trampled their remains underfoot;
20 E delle X corna che avea nel capo; e dell' altro corno che nacque, dinanzi al quale caderono tre corna; e di quello corno lo quale avea gli occhi, e la bocca che parlava cose grandi (e maravigliose), ed era più grande di tutti.	20 and about the ten horns on its head -- and why the other horn sprouted and the three original hornsfel , and why this horn had eyes and a mouth ful of boasting, and why it looked more impressive than its fel ows.
21 Io guardava; ed ecco, quello corno fece battaglia contro li santi, e vincevali,	21 This was the horn I had watched making war on the holy ones and proving the stronger,
22 persino che venne quello antico di molto tempo, e diede lo giudicio alli santi eccelsi, e venne il tempo, e li santi ottennero il regno.	22 until the coming of the One most venerable who gave judgement in favour of the holy ones of the MostHigh, when the time came for the holy ones to assume kingship.
23 E lui mi disse così: la quarta bestia sarà lo quarto regno, lo quale sarà maggiore di tutti gli altri regni, e divorerà tutta la terra, e conculcheralla, e minuzzeralla.	23 This is what he said: "The fourth beast is to be a fourth kingdom on earth, different from al otherkingdoms. It will devour the whole world, trample it underfoot and crush it.
24 Ma le dieci corna saranno dieci re di questo regbo; e leverassi un altro dopo questi, e questo sarà più potente delli primi, e umilierà tre re.	24 As for the ten horns: from this kingdom will rise ten kings, and another after them; this one will bedifferent from the previous ones and wil bring down three kings;
25 E parlerà parole contro Iddio eccelso, e opprimerà li suoi santi; e penserà che possi mutare tempi e leggi; e saranno dati nella mano loro insino a tempo, e tempi, e metà di tempo.	25 he wil insult the Most High, and torment the holy ones of the Most High. He will plan to alter theseasons and the Law, and the Saints wil be handed over to him for a time, two times, and half a time.
26 E poi sederà il giudicio, acciò che li sia tolta la potenza, e sia dissipato e disperdasi persino all' ultimo.	26 But the court will sit, and he wil be stripped of his royal authority which wil be final y destroyed andreduced to nothing.
27 E lo regno e la podestà e la grandezza del regno, la qual è sotto tutto il cielo, fia data al popolo de' santi dello Altissimo, lo regno dello quale è sempiterno, e tutti li re serviranno a lui, e saranli ubbidienti.	27 And kingship and rule and the splendours of all the kingdoms under heaven will be given to the peopleof the holy ones of the Most High, whose royal power is an eternal power, whom every empire wil serve andobey."
28 Persino a qui finisce lo parlare. Io Daniel molto mi conturbava nelli miei pensieri, e la mia faccia s' immutò in me; ma lo parlare (suo) conservai nel mio cuore.	28 'Here the narrative ends. 'I, Daniel, was greatly disturbed in mind, and I grew pale; but I kept thesethings to myself.'
