BIBBIA VOLGARE	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 E aggiunse ancora Iob, riassumendo la parola sua', e disse:	1 Job also added to this, using figures of speech, and he said:
2 Chi mi darà ch' io sia appresso li mezi dinanzi, secondo li dì ne' quali guardava me Iddio,	2 Who will grant to me that I might be as I was in former months, according to the days when God kept watch over me?
3 quando splendeva la lucerna sua sopra lo mio capo, e al lume suo andava nelle tenebre?	3 At that time, his lamp shined over my head, and by his light, I walked through the darkness.
4 Sì come io fui ne' dì della mia giovinezza, quando secreto era Iddio nel mio tabernacolo;	4 I was then just as in the days of my youth, when God was privately in my tabernacle.
5 quando era l' Onnipotente meco, e dintorno a me li miei figliuoli;	5 At that time, the Almighty was with me and my children surrounded me.
6 quando lavava li piedi miei di butirro, e la pietra spandeva a me li rivi dell' olio;	6 Then, I washed my feet with butter, and a boulder poured out rivers of oil for me.
7 quando andava alla porta della cittade, e nella piazza apparecchiavano la cattedra a me?	7 When I went to the gate of the city, or to the main street, they prepared a chair for me.
8 Vedeano me i giovani, e nascondevansi; e li vecchii si rizzavano e stavano.	8 The youths saw me and hid themselves, and the elders, rising up, remained standing.
9 Li principi cessavano di favellare, e lo dito si ponevano alla sua bocca.	9 The leaders stopped talking, and they placed a finder over their mouth.
10 Li duchi constrigneano la loro voce, e la lingua loro s'accostava allo loro gorguzzolo.	10 The commanders subdued their voice, and their tongue adhered to their throat.
11 E le orecchie udenti beatificavano me, e l'occhio vedente rendea testimonianza a me.	11 The ear that heard me, blessed me, and the eye that saw me, gave testimony for me.
12 Chè io avea deliberato lo povero gridante, e lo pupillo il quale non avea aiuto.	12 This was because I had freed the poor, who cried out, and the orphan, who had no helper.
13 La benedizione di colui, che sì dovea perire, sopra me venìa; e ho consolato lo cuore della vedova.	13 The blessing of him who would have been destroyed came upon me, and I consoled the heart of the widow.
14 Di giustizia sono vestito; e vesti’mi, sì come di vestimento e di corona, del mio giudicio.	14 I put on justice, and I clothed myself with my judgment, like a robe and a diadem.
15 Io fui occhio al cieco, e piede al zoppo.	15 I was an eye for the blind and a foot for the lame.
16 Padre era de' poveri; e la cagione, ch' io non sapea, diligentemente la investigava.	16 I was the father of the poor; and if I lacked knowledge about any case, I investigated very diligently.
17 Tritava le mascelle delli malvagi, e delli denti suoi tolleva la preda.	17 I crushed the jaws of the impious, and I took away prey from his teeth.
18 E dicea: nel mio piccolo nido mi morirò, e sì come palma moltiplicherò i dì.	18 And I said, “I will die in my little nest, and like a palm tree, I will multiply my days.
19 La mia radice aperta è appresso l'acque, e la rugiada starà nella mia mietitura.	19 My root has been spread beside the waters, and the dew will remain with my harvest.
20 La mia gloria sempre si rinnoverae, e l'arco mio nella mia mano (sempre) si ristorerà.	20 My glory will always be restored, and my bow will be restored to my hand.”
21 Coloro che mi udivano, aspettavano la mia sentenza, e intenti tacevano.	21 Those who heard me, expected vindication, and they listened closely in silence to my counsel.
22 Allo mio consiglio niuna cosa ardivano d'aggiugnere, e la mia parola sopra loro stillava.	22 To my words, they dared to add nothing, and my eloquence poured over them.
23 E aspettavano me, sì come la piova; e la bocca loro aprivano, sì come al vento piovoso serotino.	23 They waited for me as for rain, and they opened their mouth as for belated rains.
24 Si quando rideva a loro, non credevano; e la luce del mio volto non cadeva in terra.	24 If I had ever laughed at them, they would not have believed it, and the light of my face was not cast down towards the ground.
25 Se io avessi voluto ire a loro, sedeva nel primo luogo; e quando sedea, era sì come re, stanteli dintorno l'oste, ed era consolatore delli piagnenti.	25 If I wished to go to them, I sat down first, and, though I sat like a king surrounded by an army, yet I was a comforter to whose who mourned.
