BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Rispose Sofar Naamatite, e disse:	1 Then Zophar the Naamathite spoke and said:
2 Adunque li miei pensieri varii succedono a loro, e la mente nelle cose diverse è tolta.	2 and because of this I am disturbed. So now my thoughts provide me with an answer, and from my understanding a spirit gives me a reply.
3 La dottrina, colla quale mi riprendi, udirò; e lo spirito della mia intelligenza mi risponderà.	3 A rebuke which puts me to shame I hear,
4 Questo so, dal principio che posto è l' uomo sopra la terra,	4 Do you not know this from olden time, since man was placed upon the earth,
5 che la lode delli malvagi è breve, e l' allegrezza delli ipocriti è assomigliata a uno punto.	5 That the triumph of the wicked is short and the joy of the impious but for a moment?
6 (E questo so dal principio della mia intelligenza :) se salirà insino al cielo la [sua] superbia, e lo capo suo toccherà li nuvoli,	6 Though his pride mount up to the heavens and his head reach to the clouds,
7 sarà perduto nella fine, sì come immondizia; e coloro che l' aveano veduto, diranno: dov'è?	7 Yet he perishes forever like the fuel of his fire, and the onlookers say, "Where is he?"
8 E, sì come sogno volante, non sarà trovato; e passerà sì come visione di notte.	8 Like a dream he takes flight and is not found again; he fades away like a vision of the night.
9 E l'occhio, che l' avea veduto, non lo vedrà; e non più oltre (non lo) ragguarderà lui lo suo luogo.	9 The eye which saw him does so no more; nor shall his dwelling again behold him.
10 Li suoi figliuoli saranno asseccati colla povertà, e le sue mani li renderanno lo dolore suo.	10 and his hands shall yield up his riches.
11 L'ossa sue saranno ripiene de' vizii della sua giovenza, e con lui [nel] la polvere dormiranno.	11 Though his frame is full of youthful vigor, this shall lie with him in the dust.
12 E conciosia cosa che dolce sarà stato lo male nella bocca [sua], nasconderà quello sotto la sua lingua.	12 Though wickedness is sweet in his mouth, and he hides it under his tongue,
13 Perdonerà a colui, e non abbandonerà lui, e asconderallo nella gola sua.	13 Though he retains it and will not let it go but keeps it still within his mouth,
14 Lo pane nel ventre suo tornerà in fiele delli aspidi dentro.	14 Yet in his stomach the food shall turn; it shall be venom of asps inside him.
15 Le ricchezze, le quali devoroe, rimanderae fuori; del ventre suo ne le caverà Iddio.	15 The riches he swallowed he shall disgorge; God shall compel his belly to disown them.
16 Lo capo delli aspidi suggerae, e ucciderae lui la lingua della vipera.	16 The poison of asps he shall drink in; the viper's fangs shall slay him.
17 Non vedrà li rivoli del fiume, menante miele e butirro.	17 He shall see no streams of oil, no torrents of honey or milk.
18 E piagnerae ogni cosa che fece; impertanto non si consumerae, e così sofferrà secondo la moltitudine delle sue cose ritrovate.	18 Restoring his gains, he shall not enjoy them; though his wealth increases, he shall not rejoice.
19 Perciò che costrignente spoglioe la casa del povero; rapilla e non la edificoe.	19 Because he has oppressed the poor, and stolen a patrimony he had not built up,
20 E non è saziato lo suo ventre; e quando avrà quello ch' avrà desiderato, nol potrae possedere.	20 Though he has known no quiet in his greed, his treasures shall not save him.
21 Non rimanerae del suo cibo; e perciò neuna cosa rimarrà de' suoi beni.	21 Therefore his prosperity shall not endure,
22 Quando sarà saziato, s'astrignerà e riscalderassi; ogni dolore rimarrà in lui e rovinerae.	22 When he abounds to overflowing, he shall be brought into straits, and nought shall be left of his goods.
23 E Iddio il volesse, che sia empiuto lo ventre suo, acciò che mandi in lui l'ira del suo furore, e piova sopra lui la sua battaglia.	23 God shall send against him the fury of his wrath and rain down his missiles of war upon him.
24 L'arme del ferro fuggirà, e caderae nell'arco del metallo.	24 Should he escape the iron weapon, the bow of bronze shall pierce him through;
25 Menato e tratto della sua guaina, e mandando lampi nella sua amaritudine; andranno e verranno sopra lui le orribili cose.	25 The dart shall come out of his back; terrors shall fall upon him.
26 Tutte le tenebre sono nascose negli occhii suoi, e devorerae lui il fuoco il quale non si spegnerae; sarae tormentato, abbandonato nel suo tabernacolo.	26 Complete darkness is in store for him; the fire which shall consume him needs not to be fanned.
27 Riveleranno i cieli la sua iniquitade, e la terra si rizzerae contra lui.	27 The heavens shall reveal his guilt, and the earth shall rise up against him.
28 Aperto sarà lo germoglio della sua casa, e sarà detratto nel dì del furore di Dio.	28 The flood shall sweep away his house with the waters that run off in the day of God's anger.
29 Questa è la parte dell' uomo malvagio da Dio, e la eredità delle sue parole (veramente verranno).	29 This is the portion of a wicked man, and the heritage appointed him by God.
