Esodo 21

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Questi sono li giudicii che tu proporrai alli figliuoli d'Israel.	1 'These are the laws you must give them:
2 Se comprerai lo servo Ebreo, sei anni servirà a te; nel settimo se ne partirà libero e grazievole.	2 'When you buy a Hebrew slave, his service will last for six years. In the seventh year he wil leave afree man without paying compensation.
3 Con qualunque veste v'entrerà, con cotale se n'esca; e s'egli ha moglie, se ne vadano insieme.	3 If he came single, he wil depart single; if he came married, his wife wil depart with him.
4 E se Iddio darà a colui moglie, e partorirà figliuoli e figliuole, la femina e li figliuoli suoi saranno del signore suo; ed egli veramente n'uscirà col vestire.	4 If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children wilbelong to her master, and he wil depart alone.
5 E se dirà lo servo: io amo lo signore mio e la moglie e li figliuoli, non ne partirò libero;	5 But if the slave says, "I love my master and my wife and children; I do not wish to be freed,"
6 offerisca lui lo signore allo Iddio; e appiccherallo all'uscio e posta, e perforerà le orecchie sue con la subia; e sarà a lui servo in sempiterno.	6 then his master wil bring him before God and then, leading him to the door or the doorpost, his masterwil pierce his ear with an awl, and the slave wil be permanently his.
7 E se alcuno altro venderà la figliuola per fante, non vada siccome l'ancilla soglia uscire.	7 If a man sel s his daughter as a slave, she wil not leave as male slaves do.
8 S'ella dispiacerà agli occhi del signore suo, allo quale ella sia data, lascerà lei; ma ad altro popolo non avrà podestà di vendere, s'egli sprezzerà lei.	8 If she does not please her master who intended her for himself, he must let her be bought back: hehas not the right to sell her to foreigners, for this would be a breach of faith with her.
9 Ma se al figliuolo suo la desse per moglie, secondo l'usanza del figliuolo farà a colei.	9 If he intends her for his son, he must treat her as custom requires daughters to be treated.
10 Ma se un' altra a lui torrà, provvederà le nozze alla putta; e le vestimenta e il prezzo della pudicizia non negherà.	10 If he takes another wife, he must not reduce the food, clothing or conjugal rights of the first one.
11 Se queste tre cose non farà, anderassene grazievolmente senza pecunia.	11 Should he deprive her of these three things she wil leave a free woman, without payingcompensation.
12 Chi percuoterà l'uomo, volendolo uccidere, di morte morrà.	12 'Anyone who by violence causes a death must be put to death.
13 Ma chi non ha insidiato, ma Iddio dà lui nelle mani sue, ordinerò a te lo luogo nel quale debba fuggire.	13 If, however, he has not planned to do it but it comes from God by his hand, he can take refuge in aplace which I shal appoint for you.
14 Se alcuno per malizia ucciderà lo prossimo suo e per insidie, divellerai lui dall'altare, acciò ch' egli muoia.	14 But should any person dare to kill another with deliberate planning, you wil take that person evenfrom my altar to be put to death.
15 Chi batterà lo padre suo ovvero la madre, di morte morrà.	15 'Anyone who strikes father or mother wil be put to death.
16 Chi involerà l'uomo, e venderà lo congiunto con moglie, di morte muoia.	16 Anyone who abducts a person -- whether that person has since been sold or is stil held -- wil be putto death.
17 Chi maledicerà lo padre o la madre sua, di morte morrà.	17 Anyone who curses father or mother will be put to death.
18 Se contenderanno gli uomini, e percuoterà alcuno lo prossimo suo colla pietra ovvero col pugno, e quegli non morrà, ma giacerà nel letto;	18 'If people quarrel and one strikes the other a blow with stone or fist so that the injured party, thoughnot dead, is confined to bed,
19 se si leverà, e anderà fuori sopra la mazza sua, innocente sarà colui che il percosse, così per tanto che gli lavorii suoi e le spese ne' medici restituisca.	19 but later recovers and can go about, even with a stick, the one who struck the blow wil have noliability, other than to compensate the injured party for the enforced inactivity and to take care of the injured partyuntil the cure is complete.
20 Chi batterà lo servo suo o l'ancilla colla mazza, e morti saranno nelle mani sue, del peccato colpevole sarà.	20 'If someone beats his slave, male or female, and the slave dies at his hands, he must pay thepenalty.
21 Ma se uno di sopraviverà, ovvero due, non sottostarà alla pena, perciò che di sua pecunia fue acquisto.	21 But should the slave survive for one or two days, he will pay no penalty because the slave is his byright of purchase.
22 Se garriranno gli uomini, e batterà alcuno la femina pregna, e cosa morta farà, ed ella vi verà, satisfarà lo danno, quanto richiederà lo marito della femina, e gli arbitri lo giudicheranno.	22 'If people, when brawling, hurt a pregnant woman and she suffers a miscarriage but no further harmis done, the person responsible wil pay compensation as fixed by the woman's master, paying as much as thejudges decide.
23 Ma se ella morrà, (perciò) renderà l'anima per l'anima,	23 If further harm is done, however, you wil award life for life,
24 e l'occhio per l'occhio, e lo dente per lo dente, e la mano per la mano, e lo piede per lo piede,	24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
25 e l'arsione per l'arsione, e la ferita per la ferita, e lo dolore per lo dolore.	25 burn for burn, wound for wound, stroke for stroke.
26 Se alcuno percuoterà l'occhio del suo servo ovvero dell' ancilla sua, e ciechi loro facesse, lascerà loro liberi per gli occhi che gli cavo.	26 'If anyone strikes the eye of his slave, male or female, and destroys the use of it, he wil give theslave his freedom to compensate for the eye.
27 E se lo dente traesse allo servo o all'ancilla sua, simigliantemente lascerà loro liberi.	27 If he knocks out the tooth of his slave, male or female, he wil give the slave his freedom tocompensate for the tooth.
28 Se lo bue col corno percuoterà uomo ovvero femina, e morissino, colle pietre sia morto, e non si mangino le carni loro; e lo signore del bue innocente sarà.	28 'If an ox gores a man or woman to death, the ox wil be stoned and its meat wil not be eaten, but theowner of the ox wil not be liable.
29 Ma se lo bue sarà stato scorneggiatore da jeri e l'altro di in là, e detto e contestato gli abbiano al signore suo, e non l'abbia rinchiuso, e ucciderà alcuno uomo o femina, il bue colle pietre sia morto, e lo signore di quello uccidano.	29 But if the ox has been in the habit of goring before, and if its owner has been warned but has not keptit under control, then should this ox kil a man or woman, it wil be stoned and its owner put to death.
30 Ma se lo prezzo vi sia imposto, darà per l'anima di colui quello che fia addomandato.	30 If a ransom is imposed on the owner, he wil pay whatever is imposed, to redeem his life.
31 Se lo figliuolo o la figliuola col corno per cuotesse, a somigliante sentenza sottostarà.	31 If the ox gores a boy or a girl, it will be treated in accordance with this same rule.
32 E se lo servo o l'ancilla assalisse, trenta sicli d'ariento darà al signore; ma il bue colle pietre sia morto.	32 If the ox gores a slave, male or female, its owner will pay the price -- thirty shekels -- to their master,and the ox will be stoned.
33 Se alcuno aprisse la cisterna e cavassela, e non la ricoprisse, e cadessevi dentro il bue o l'asino,	33 'If anyone leaves a pit uncovered, or digs a pit and does not cover it, and an ox, or donkey fal s into it,
34 il signore della cisterna renda lo prezzo delle bestie; e quello che sia morto, sia suo.	34 then the owner of the pit will make good the loss by compensating its owner, and the dead animal willbe his.
35 Se lo bue d'altrui un altro bue ferisse, ed egli ne morisse, vendano lo bue vivo, e dividano lo prezzo; e lo morto ancora intra loro dividano.	35 If anyone's ox injures anyone else's ox causing its death, the owners wil sel and share the moneyfor it; they will also share the dead animal.
36 Ma se sapea che lo bue era cornazzante da ieri e l'altro di in là, e non guarda a lui lo signore suo, renda lo bue per lo bue, e lo morto intiera mente riceva.	36 But if it is common knowledge that the ox has been in the habit of goring before, and its owner hasnot kept it under control, the owner wil repay ox for ox, and wil keep the dead animal.
	37 'If anyone steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters or sel s it, he wil pay back five beasts from theherd for the ox, and four animals from the flock for the sheep.'
