| 1 In quel tempo — dice il Signore — io sarò il Dio di tutte le famiglie d'Israele, ed esse saranno il mio popolo. | 1 "At that time, says the LORD, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people." |
| 2 Ecco quanto dice il Signore: Ha trovato grazia nel deserto il popolo avanzato alla spada, Israele andrà al suo riposo. | 2 Thus says the LORD: "The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest, |
| 3 Il Signore mi apparve da lontano Io ti ho amato con eterno amore, per questo ti ho attratta a me, pieno di misericordia. | 3 the LORD appeared to him from afar. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. |
| 4 Io ti riedificherò, e tu sarai riedificata, o vergine d'Israele; tu di nuovo andrai adornata in mezzo ai tuoi tamburi, e camminerai in mezzo al coro dei sonatori. | 4 Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall adorn yourself with timbrels, and shall go forth in the dance of the merrymakers. |
| 5 Tu pianterai ancor vigne sui monti di Samaria; i piantatori pianteranno, e finché non sarà venuto il tempo non vendemmieranno. | 5 Again you shall plant vineyards upon the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall enjoy the fruit. |
| 6 Perchè verrà giorno in cui le sentinelle grideranno sulla montagna d'Efraim: « Su, andiamo a Sion, dal Signore Dio nostro ». | 6 For there shall be a day when watchmen will call in the hill country of Ephraim: 'Arise, and let us go up to Zion, to the LORD our God.'" |
| 7 Infatti cosi parla il Signore: « Esultate per la gioia di Giacobbe, date fremiti di gioia incontro a quella che sta a capo delle nazioni, fatevi sentire, cantate, e dite: Salva, o Signore, il tuo popolo, i resti d'Israele ». | 7 For thus says the LORD: "Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and raise shouts for the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, 'The LORD has saved his people, the remnant of Israel.' |
| 8 Ecco che io li ricondurrò dalla terra del settentrione, li radunerò dagli ultimi confini del mondo, in mezzo ad essi sarà il cieco e lo zoppo, la donna incinta con quella che ha di fresco partorito, in gran folla torneranno a questo luogo, | 8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who is in travail, together; a great company, they shall return here. |
| 9 verranno piangendo, ed io pietoso li ricondurrò, li guiderò attraverso le acque dei torrenti, per retta strada, ove non troveranno inciampi, perchè io son ridivenuto il padri d'Israele, ed Efraim è il mio primogenito. | 9 With weeping they shall come, and with consolations I will lead them back, I will make them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born. |
| 10 Nazioni, ascoltate la parola del Signore, annunziatela alle isole lontane, e dite: Colui che ha disperso Israele lo riunirà, lo custodirà come un pastore il suo gregge: | 10 "Hear the word of the LORD, O nations, and declare it in the coastlands afar off; say, 'He who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock.' |
| 11 Il Signore ha redento Giacobbe, l'ha liberato dalla mano del piò forte. - | 11 For the LORD has ransomed Jacob, and has redeemed him from hands too strong for him. |
| 12 Essi torneranno a cantare lodi sul monte di Sion, s'affolleranno intorno ai beni del Signore, al grano, al vino, all'olio, ai parti delle pecore e dei bovi. La loro anima sarà come un giardino irrigato, e non patiranno più la fame. | 12 They shall come and sing aloud on the height of Zion, and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the LORD, over the grain, the wine, and the oil, and over the young of the flock and the herd; their life shall be like a watered garden, and they shall languish no more. |
| 13 Si rallegreranno allora nelle danze le vergini, e i giovani coi vecchi. Io muterò il loro duolo in gioia, li consolerò, li farò gioire dopo il loro dolore. | 13 Then shall the maidens rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old shall be merry. I will turn their mourning into joy, I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow. |
| 14 Sazierò di grasso l'anima dei sacerdoti, e il mio popolo sarà pieno dei miei beni — dice il Signore. | 14 I will feast the soul of the priests with abundance, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, says the LORD." |
| 15 Queste cose dice il Signore: — Un grido s'è sentito nell'alto, di lamento, di lutto, di gemito, di Rachele che piange i suoi figli, e non ammette consolazione riguardo ad essi, perchè non son piìr. | 15 Thus says the LORD: "A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are not." |
| 16 Ma cosi dico il Signore: — Cessi la tua bocca di piangere, cessino i tuoi occhi le lacrime, perchè l'opera tua avrà la ricompensa, dice il Signore — ed essi torneranno dalla terra nemica: | 16 Thus says the LORD: "Keep your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the LORD, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. |
| 17 v'è una speranza per te nell'avvenire dice il Signore — e i tuoi figli torneranno ai loro paesi. | 17 There is hope for your future, says the LORD, and your children shall come back to their own country. |
| 18 Sono stato a sentire Efraim esule: Tu mi hai castigato e sono stato corretto come indomito giovenco. Convertimi, ed io mi convertirò, perchè tu sei il Signore mio Dio. | 18 I have heard Ephraim bemoaning, 'Thou hast chastened me, and I was chastened, like an untrained calf; bring me back that I may be restored, for thou art the LORD my God. |
| 19 Dopo che tu m'hai convertito, ho fatto penitenza, dopo che tu m'hai fatto intendere, ho percosso il mio fianco: io son confuso e pien di vergogna sotto l'obbrobrio della mia adolescenza ». | 19 For after I had turned away I repented; and after I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh; I was ashamed, and I was confounded, because I bore the disgrace of my youth.' |
| 20 E non mi è forse un figlio onorato, Efraim, un fanciullo diletto? Dacché parlo di lui, non posso dimenticarlo; siccome s'è commosso il mio cuore, avrò pietà di lui dice il Signore. | 20 Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he my darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do remember him still. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says the LORD. |
| 21 Fatti un luogo d'osservazione, abbandonati all'amarezza, rivolgi il tuo cuore alla dritta via in cui camminasti, ritorna, o vergine d'Israele, ritorna alle tue città. | 21 "Set up waymarks for yourself, make yourself guideposts; consider well the highway, the road by which you went. Return, O virgin Israel, return to these your cities. |
| 22 E fino a quando ti rovinerai nelle dissolutezze, o figlia errabonda? Ecco, il Signore ha creato una nuova cosa sulla terra: una donna chiuderà in se un uomo. | 22 How long will you waver, O faithless daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing on the earth: a woman protects a man." |
| 23 Dosi parla il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: « Si dirà ancora questa parola, nella terra di Giuda e perde sue città, quando io avrò fatto tornare i loro esuli: Ti benedica il Signore, o splendore di giustizia, — o monte santo. | 23 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "Once more they shall use these words in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I restore their fortunes: 'The LORD bless you, O habitation of righteousness, O holy hill!' |
| 24 E vi abiteranno Giuda e tutte le sue città, e gli agricoltori, e coloro che guidano il gregge. | 24 And Judah and all its cities shall dwell there together, and the farmers and those who wander with their flocks. |
| 25 Perchè io ho inebriata ogni anima stanca, ed ho riempita a sazietà ogni anima affamata. | 25 For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish." |
| 26 Per questo mi son quasi svegliato dal sonno, ho aperti gli occhi: mi era dolce il mio sonno! | 26 Thereupon I awoke and looked, and my sleep was pleasant to me. |
| 27 Ecco viene il tempo — dice il Signore — in cui seminerò la casa d'Israele e la casa di Giuda con semenza d'uomini e semenza d'animali. | 27 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of beast. |
| 28 e come vegliai sopra di loro per estirpare, abbattere, rovinare, disperdere e affliggere, così vigilerò sopra di essi per edificare e piantare — dice il Signore. | 28 And it shall come to pass that as I have watched over them to pluck up and break down, to overthrow, destroy, and bring evil, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says the LORD. |
| 29 In quei giorni non si dirà più: « I padri mangiarono l'uva acerba, e si sono allegati i denti ai figlioli ». | 29 In those days they shall no longer say: 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.' |
| 30 Ma ciascuno morrà per la propria iniquità: chiunque mangerà l'uva acerba avrà i denti allegati. | 30 But every one shall die for his own sin; each man who eats sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge. |
| 31 Ecco che verranno i giorni — dice il Signore — in cui io farò colla casa d'Israele e colla casa di Giuda una nuova alleanza, | 31 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, |
| 32 alleanza non come quella che stipulai coi loro padri quando li presi per mano per trarli dalla terra d'Egitto, alleanza da essi violata, in cui l'ho trattati da padrone — dice il Signore. — | 32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant which they broke, though I was their husband, says the LORD. |
| 33 Ecco l'alleanza che io farò colla casa d'Israele dopo quel tempo — dice il Signore: — imprimerò la mia legge nelle loro viscere, la scriverò nei loro cuori, io sarò il loro Dio ed essi saranno il mio popolo. | 33 But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. |
| 34 E allora un uomo non farà più da maestro al suo prossimo. Un uomo non farà da maestro al fratello col dire: « Impara a conoscere il Signore », perchè tutti mi conosceranno, dal più piccolo al più grande — dice il Signore — perchè io perdonerò la loro iniquità, e non ricorderò più il loro peccato. | 34 And no longer shall each man teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more." |
| 35 Ecco quanto dice il Signore che dà il sole a luce del giorno e il corso regolare alla luna e alle stelle per rischiarar la notte, che agita il mare e ne fa muggire i flutti. Egli si chiama Signore degli eserciti: — | 35 Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar--the LORD of hosts is his name: |
| 36 « Se queste leggi potran cessare dinanzi a me — dice il Signore, — allora anche la stirpe d'Israele cesserà d'essere una nazione dinanzi a me per sempre ». | 36 "If this fixed order departs from before me, says the LORD, then shall the descendants of Israel cease from being a nation before me for ever." |
| 37 Questo dice il Signore: « Se può misurarsi l'altezza dei cieli e scandagliarsi la profondità dei fondamenti della terra, potrò anch'io rigettare tutta la stirpe d'Israele a motivo di tutte le cose che ha fatte — dice il Signore ». | 37 Thus says the LORD: "If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will cast off all the descendants of Israel for all that they have done, says the LORD." |
| 38 Ecco viene il tempo — dice il Signore — in cui sarà edificata la città al Signore, dalla torre di Hananeel fino alla porta dell'angolo, | 38 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when the city shall be rebuilt for the LORD from the tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate. |
| 39 e la corda di misura andrà retta sulla collina di Gareb, e girerà intorno a Goata. | 39 And the measuring line shall go out farther, straight to the hill Gareb, and shall then turn to Goah. |
| 40 e a tutta la valle dei cadaveri e della cenere, e a tutto il campo della morte, fino al torrente Cedron, e fino all'angolo della porta dei cavalli, orientale. Il santuario del Signore non sarà più abbattuto, non sarà più distrutto in eterno. | 40 The whole valley of the dead bodies and the ashes, and all the fields as far as the brook Kidron, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, shall be sacred to the LORD. It shall not be uprooted or overthrown any more for ever." |
